Colgate 2024-25 Harder Hockey

Another good game, another nerve-wracking third period. And another Andrew Takacs win. he he he

Any official word on Charlie Letty? To me, it looked like he really came down hard on his tailbone. Hoping it is not as bad as it looked.

Killing off the 5-minute major was HUGE. The other statistic that was wild was 11-9 SOG lead after two periods!! Cornell and Quinnipiac are both teams that will tie things up with their bodies and sticks along the boards for 60 minutes, but that isn’t exactly our M.O. historically.

Lastly, did you see the scores of Michigan at Penn State last night and tonight? Michigan won both, 6-5 and 10-6, respectively. Obviously the PSU goalies will be fresh come Tuesday and Wednesday against Colgate as they apparently didn’t overextend themselves this weekend.

P.S. - Ben Raymond’s father is one of our more loyal hockey parents. I see him at most games that I am at.

what a joke…..I feel like we lost to a club team. You’re a like a home wrecker mistress. You are a mediocre program whose whole season is measured on how you play us. EMBARRASSING LOSING TO YOUR SCRUB TEAM!! Can you imagine North Dakota or Minnesota coming to your barn in front of 16 fans? They get 15,000 fans at their games. Quinny needs to go to Hockey East. This is ridiculous.
ECAC no longer deserves QU. Merrimack and Quinny need to exchange conferences.

ICECATTY: I hope you're proud of insulting the Raiders team and fans on the team's forum page. I know it hurts to lose on the road to the 'Gate "club team" three years in a row, but please post on your team's page if you can't be civil on ours.

Yeah, your team's 1-3 record against Hockey East this season is almost as good as their 3-3 record in the ECAC. From a 'Gate fan's perspective, I enjoy watching the yearly Quinnipiac games - they are always nail biting and competitive. I expect Q to end the season as one of the top ECAC teams. If I were a one of their fans, I'd be proud of their effort and historic record.

I don't know what Flagdude did to get banned but he never posted the drivel that icecat regularly does on this board. It's telling that pretty much every other Q fan here dislikes him

Another solid weekend of ECAC play. Refreshing to win some low scoring games. Nice combination of the veterans like Chorske, Panetta and Labelle with our youngsters. Speaking of which, the recruiting of USHL players seems to be be paying some early dividends. I know the Coat has been preaching that for years.

Ice Cat kind of lost it, huh? Why so angry?

I love that Icecat thinks that we give a rat's a** about QU. Other than being a league game i could care less. Our season depends on what happens on the Central New York trip (we know what i mean) and if we get to lake placid

Another great weekend for our first place Raiders ! I haven't said this in years but this team is really entertaining. We all knew goaltending was our weak link but Takacs has emerged as our #1 tender and continues to get better every weekend. It sure is nice to win close games !

ICECAT1811...I've always respected the Q-Pac program and was very glad when Pecknold won his first NCAA Championship...if it's within your skill set (and that is doubtful) show some class...step #1 would be keeping your mouth shut...

Icecat, if it's any consolation I personally never wanted you in the ECAC to start with. Your then new arena trumped the more logical choice of HC which unfortunately didn't have a big enough arena at the time. If given a vote I'd be happy to swap you out for the return of UVM or HC where we have a long history of playing both in many sports not just hockey...

I also wouldn't bet against our "schrub" program in the next few years; we're on the rise and more importantly seem to have Q's number.

Third, my fave Colgate players to watch remain Brett Chorske, Antonio Fernandez and Andrew Takacs.

What do you think of Neumeier Iowa? He can skate and is good with the puck. He looks like he’s going to be a good one.

Are you going to Penn State this week? Pretty quick turnaround for the team after this weekend. And we usually don’t do well in this spot against an OOC opponent. Would be nice to get a win.

Magoo, I totally agree with you on Michael Neumeier. And so does John McGraw, who similarly forecast a bright future for him in college hockey. I would say ‘at Colgate’ but this transfer portal/revolving door has me watching my words more carefully lately.

Sadly, I just cancelled my room reservation in State College. Recently, I drove back to Knoxville, Iowa, and went to college hockey games at Lindenwood (arena #145) and Miami (Ohio) on my way home. One week ago today, I left Beavercreek near Dayton, refueled in Chardon near Cleveland, and drove to my fave restaurant in Owego for my take-out lamb platter. Afterwards, my car wouldn’t get in gear (transmission problem)!! So I had my car towed to local dealership and I am without wheels, likely for another week. I hated not going to the Colgate games this weekend, but the bright side is that I truly enjoyed the ESPN+ broadcasts. Today I even watched the Maine at Vermont women’s hockey game on ESPN+. So, I will miss the Penn State games, too (and Cornell vs. Quinnipiac on Saturday at MSG, a bucket-list arena). All in all, it is just a bump in the road and I should get a new car on Black Friday (with hand-controls installed the following week in Syracuse). Life is still good. Thanks for asking.

64-team PairWise Ranking (PWR)
as of Sunday evening, November 24…

3-Dartmouth, 16-Cornell,
19-Quinnipiac, 24-Colgate, 26-Clarkson,
33-Harvard, 37-Union, 47-Princeton,
52-RPI, 53-Brown, 54-Yale, 62-Saint Lawrence.

For reference, Penn State is PWR #48.

Unfortunate to see Penn St. off to a slow start and way down in a still early PWR. I thought this would be our most important non conf matchup but doesn’t look like it as of now. Let’s hope for a split

I'm hoping for a sweep, why not ? They play tonight at 6:00. Argh...on B1G network 12.99 monthly

Am watching on B1G+ PPV...

Andrew Takacs in goal for Colgate. John Seifarth making his first career start in goal for Penn State.

Penn State's Aiden Fink scored first.
A poor effort by Colgate to clear the puck resulted in Penn State's Matt DiMarsico scoring a PPG.

SOG 13-2 for Penn State at start of Colgate PP. 13-3 afterwards.

Thankfully, Alex DiPaolo scored late in the period for Colgate. From Brett Chorske and Reid Irwin.

Terrible first period for 'Gate.

Penn State 17, Colgate 7, SOG after one.
Penn State 2, Colgate 1, score after one.

Penn State penalty midway through the second period. 22-11 SOG going in. 22-13 afterwards (but one was a great individual effort by Simon Labelle).

Colgate defensemen caught up ice and Penn State's Charlie Cerrato had a breakaway and a goal.

Twenty seconds left in the second period and Colgate takes its usual 'Too Many Men on the Ice' penalty.

Better than the first period, but still not a good period (as defense are back to their old ways of giving the puck away in our own end). We need to tighten up defensively.

Penn State 31, Colgate 18, SOG after two.
Penn State 3, Colgate 1, score after two.

Penalty killed.
12 minutes to go, Penn State playing defensive. Colgate needs to show a sense of urgency.
9 minutes to go, Penn State playing defensive. Colgate needs to show a sense of urgency.
Daniel Panetta blisters one from the point and it lops over the Penn State goalie's blocker. From Reid Irwin and Jake Schneider.

4 minutes left in the third period and Colgate takes a two-minute penalty (contact to the head). Penn State challenges for a review (2 or 5 minutes). Two-minute penalty holds. But still not good. Great PK. Killed.

Empty net for Colgate.

Penn State 42, Colgate 27, SOG final.
Penn State 3, Colgate 2, score final.

Way too little. Way too late. 27 SOG is not bad for 60 minutes. 42 Shots Against is terrible.
Again, we are asking too much of a goaltender when the defense allows that to happen.

After Tuesday's two NCAA games: Colgate PWR#29, Penn State PWR#42.

Happy Thanksgiving
Outshot and lose to a team that is winless in its own league. We rarely make a statement OOC. Takacs with 2.98gaa/.898sv. Writing is on the wall; looks like .500 hockey if we’re lucky. Would be great to recruit some talent in goal.

Iowa how was your stream? I bought the monthly pass and was not impressed when I paired to my tv from my phone. The faster plays were a little glitchy almost. I have not had any previous problems with ESPN+.

My stream was very good. I remember only two times when I had very slight buffering issues and they didn’t last long at all. I just used my lap-top.
