Colgate 2011-12

Re: Colgate 2011-12

You'll have to explain this one. Aside from the Union Rule curse (regarding RPI's making it there), I have absolutely no idea what you're talking about.
Colgate has not advanced to the ECAC Championship game since 1990. They've played in the semis seven times since then and have lost all seven games.

Re: Colgate 2011-12

That was a great, great game by Colgate. We needed that first goal, plain and simple. Everyone, especially Mihalik, played with purpose and confidence from beginning to end. We outshot our opponent through 2 periods (except in the 3rd when defense kicked in), fell on the ice to block shots, skated the puck into the zone a bit more, and the pk stood like Stonewall Jackson. We cannot continue to take penalties like we did, especially at the end and beginning of periods...hitting after the whistle is complete garbage and may cost us the game. Glad to see some other lines step it up again.

Sorry we couldn't give the team a larger crowd, but what a way to end a season at home!
Congratulations, Colgate
March on to AC!

That is a glaring statistic. Hopefully the 7-time itch is over, but it really is great just making it to Atlantic City and living to play another day. With defense like yesterday and a little Wagner-Wilson-Smith thrown in, 'Gate can make it to the championship.

Some of that comes from the emotions of a 3-game series, at least I hope. A one-game might cut down on that, but it is definitely something the guys need to be more careful about. The wrong set of refs and you wind up playing Game 2 again....

Re: Colgate 2011-12

I have to step aside for three minutes and give a big "Well Done" to Gate Radio in calling the game last night. He was on top of the action and really made the listener feel he/she was inside Starr watching the game. He's done a great job all year; sure hope he stays on for next season.

Not to look ahead too far, but it appears Chris Wagner will be the heir apparent to Austin next season. With his numbers he is sure to be a standout in the league. I'm thinking John Lidgett will emerge as next year's "Chris Wagner" - he has a nose for the goal and a quick release, + one tough player.

Kudos to the seniors on a superlative effort vs. QU. In fact the whole team played a complete, great game. If there's one advantage we might have vs. Union it's that we've been to AC before and might know the bounces off the boards from one year's experience. Hoping for a complete 60 minutes from everyone and maybe a final against our upstate rivals on Saturday. (No TV really is poor; what's happened to the ECAC front office?) Who's driving down to AC? Hate that 4:30 start time.

Re: Colgate 2011-12

It's downright embarrassing that the tournament games won't be televised. Doesn't say much for our league, does it? Or for the people running it. And it should be a heck of a tournament. You've got the top 4 teams and a legit Hobey candidate there this weekend. What a missed opportunity for our league.

Speaking of missed opportunities, our failures in the last 7 semifinal games come down to our forwards not answering the bell. Only 6 goals in those 7 games, 2 of the 6 from a defenseman. Hopefully that will change this year.

Ultimately, it is the respective athletic directors of each Institution who are responsible for making $$$$ decisions within the league. It is obvious that initially, they did not want to spend the $$$$ for production. A late change of heart resulted in TWC Albany and Syracuse already committed for that time slot, which left RPI TV to televise the games to be streamed via the web at a cost.

TW has simulcasted RPI-TV before. I don't know if all of the alternate channels for sports are taken, though.

Re: Colgate 2011-12

Tell me about it. 7:00 would have been much better. I shouldn't complain too much though -- I have to drive down from Manhattan, not Hamilton. A little bit easier.
All you would have had to do to get the 7:00 game was tank against Colgate on Feb 25. Better luck with that next year! ;)

Re: Colgate 2011-12

I forgot to give a big shout out to all you posters for reporting on the three games over the weekend while I was away. I've been reading the posts and now feel caught up on what transpired. It was a roller coaster ride, but in the end we stood tall.

Irrelevant remark of the week: in my travels I was channel surfing and caught the second Maine-Merrimack game in which there were 184 PIM and several knock down, drag out fights + some majors handed out. Took me back to the old days when Colgate used to duke it out with SLU and Clarkson :)

Re: Colgate 2011-12

not only have we lost 7 times in the semis at the ECACs since 1990, but lost to Princeton in the old "play in" game in 1999...this would be a huge monkey off DV's back and he deserves it...if we play like we did last night we've got a chance...

Re: Colgate 2011-12

Not only are we 0-fer in ECAC semifinal games after 1990, but we've been shutout in our last THREE.

2006 -- lost 2-0 to Cornell (2nd goal was an empty-netter)
2008 -- lost 3-0 to Princeton (Tyler Burton missed an open net in the 1st, all Princeton goals were in the 3rd period)
2011 -- lost 4-0 to Yale (had a goal disallowed in the 2nd that would have made it 1-0 Colgate)

The trend implies a 5-0 loss to Union in 2012, but I'm hoping that doesn't happen. We have to pick up right where we left off on Sunday night.

Re: Colgate 2011-12

US 20 (too many cops on that road).
One of New York's finest nabbed my on Rt 20 in Carlisle doing 62 in a 45 zone. I told him I never saw any 45 mph signs but that didn't help. The funny thing is that there were 2 other cars around me doing roughly the same speed. The cop was sitting God knows where but came right up behind me and followed for about a 1/2 mile before pulling me over. I'm convinced he only did so because of the CT plates. Unfortunately, at 62 mph I don't have any room to complain. There's no fine on the ticket. I guess I plead guilty, mail it in, and wait for the bill.

Best of luck in Atlantic City. As the #4 seed you'll be the underdogs and will be the team I'm rooting for.

With CT plates, he knows you're not going to bother coming back to contest it, so he doesn't have to show up to court. If you send it in guilty, you agree to let them fix the penalty, dispose of the ticket, and mail you a bill. As far as I know, points don't transfer from NY to CT, so there shouldn't really be any after effects.

Points don't transfer from NY to anywhere outside of NY. NY only accepts points from Ontario and Quebec (I assume because of the drinking age).

Sorry, Mark I didn't warn you about Carlisle when I gave you the poop on places to eat/stay in Hamilton. This "town" is a well known speed trap on Rte 20. I've had a few cops stop me there over the years. It's almost impossible to drive thru without a ticket if you are one MPH over 45. I think the money goes to upgrading the huge orange snowplow which stands in front of the town garage..haha..:)

Some free legal advice. You might want to check with Connecticut DMV first to see if they reciprocate through compact with NY in archiving driving records. If a NY driver you'd be looking at a 4 point speed. You are allowed 11 in an 18 month period. That or 3 speeding convictions can lead to a license suspension. Also it could effect your insurance. It might be worth you finding and calling a local attorney who in all likelihood could get you a reduction to a 2 point nonspeed like failure to obey a traffic control device or even a nonmoving violation like parking on the pavement. The latter two reductions would actually realize more revenue to the Town as they get to keep the money for those fines, unlike the moving violations. It shouldn't cost you a fortune for a lawyer and it could save you some money in the long run.

Re: Colgate 2011-12

Also not a bad idea to call the clerk of the court and get a feel for what the fine will be if you plead guilty by checking the box. There may well be an initial fine and then some punitive add ons related to how far above the speed limit you were. These are often more than the initial fine itself. Good to know the worst case cost before you consider calling local counsel trying to save money elsewhere...
