Re: Colgate 2011-12

In more unequivocally positive news, Andy McDonald is scorching hot; he has 9 points in the last 7 games for the team with the best record in the league. The Blues are 11-4 since he's back in the line-up. Very nice.

Re: Colgate 2011-12

Does anyone know exactly what happened there at the end? I saw Pecknold getting escorted off by the officials and Vaughan appeared to be going towards a 'Gate player as if there was something between our coach and him. Then Vaughan got very animated and was being helped off the ice. Someone near us said Vaughan initially had words with or went after Pecknold. It was very strange to say the least.

As for tonight I think both teams will bring their A game. I'd like to think the officiating won't impact the outcome but this is the ECAC. The boys should be able to settle it on the ice.

Best of luck to both teams.

Re: Colgate 2011-12

Just let them play tonight !!!!!!!!!!!! Last night's game was dictated by the officials.

Colgate came out on fire Friday night and Q-Pac last night. The teams are so close in talent, who wants it more ?

I think Gate comes out very strong tonight, first goal is key, Austin needs a big game !

Austin Smith is key and keeping him off the score sheet, as every team knows, is also key. We did have some great tic-tac-toe plays and a few odd-man rushes but couldn't stuff it home. Their goalie is bigger than ours and didn't give up a single rebound. Penalties or not, we need a better pk.

So close...but looking back a year ago the progress made is respectable. And next year with the Spink twins - minus Smith, of course - could spell good things for Colgate.

Last game at Starr.
Go get 'em, 'Gate

Re: Colgate 2011-12

interesting...I also saw what looked like a Q-Pac coach (maybe their head coach) trying to go after what appeared to be one of our players...who knows what was said, although the presumption is that the teams' coaches should be the adults in the room...I also don't know the relationship between Pecknold and DV...in any event, we've GOT to be better in transition (although we were pretty bad last night, we did play a very solid second period - ruined at the end of the period by the officials)...I know DV has a temper (who wouldn't) but I've never seen him like I did last night...and frankly, Don is a class act and I would strongly suggest he had a number of valid points to make to the clowns in the zebra suits...

Here is what I saw from the radio booth. The game ended and the Colgate players milled around in their own zone and then went to line up at center ice to give the fans a stick salute - this also happened after the Friday game (no fireworks though). And really, this is something Colgate does after every game, usually following the post-game handshakes.

With the Colgate players lined around the center circle, the Quinnipiac coaches walked through down the red line towards the locker room right through the middle of the Colgate players. Out of nowhere, there was some aggitation with one of the Quinnipiac assistant coaches and he had to be more or less escourted off the ice by the officials. The Colgate players headed back to the dressing room and Coach Vaughan, who had been standing by the Colgate locker room walked back across the ice to I guess see what the problem had been. All appeared to have settled down and then Coavh Vaughan started arguging again with the officials - basically a running argument that had been going on since the second period. Last i saw of the argument was when the officials and Colgate coaches left the ice.

Re: Colgate 2011-12

Just arrived from an out of town weekend, and was upset to read about the officiating last night, and our 1-1 deadlock in games. At least we're still alive. Will be listening to 'Gate Radio tonite. Hope we can bring it home. We need to play desperate hockey, spring Austin free to score and put up a roadblock to their offense. Go Raiders!

Re: Colgate 2011-12

Survive and advance.

Sounds like pretty much everything went right tonight. Time to focus on AC and Union. Let's hope we can move beyond that 1st semifinal game which has tripped 'Gate up seemingly every time.

What a weekend for Chris Wagner, huh? Kudos to the whole team for playing one of their best games of the year when it mattered most.

Q-Pac was a tough out and looks to be a team to reckon with next year as their Jones-Jones-Peca line was one of the most productive in the league and is comprised of two sophomores and a frosh.

great defensive effort...kept most everything to the outside, very active sticks (and a couple of friendly posts)...great for all the seniors...they've been through a lot of ups and downs over four years, but they busted their fannies tonight...Sinz very solid...as usual we've got the 4PM game next Friday...Happy Birthday DV...

Re: Colgate 2011-12

Wow, just WOW! :D :D :D :D

Wasn't expecting Mihalik to pitch a shutout tonight, but we definitely pulled out all the stops. Gotta give LOTS of credit to Chris Wagner, he had FIVE goals this weekend, and SEVEN in his career against the Bobcats. He's our new Bobcat killer now that Peter Bogdanich is long gone.

Union won't be easy, but they say it's difficult to defeat a team 3 times in one season. Of course, they'll also remember what happened to them last year :p

Let's go 'Gate!!!!!

Re: Colgate 2011-12

Going to Atlantic City...again :)

Big weekend from Wagner, 5-1-6 on the weekend, huge. Glad to see Smith getting a few more chances to add to his totals. Great win for the seniors at Starr, great to see the season keep going. Great, great, great

Admittedly, I was hoping for a Yale win also to get Cornell rather than Union in the semis, but there you have it. Great to hear the win tonight, hopefully I'll get the video working for Friday (no TV for the game is...disappointing, for certain)

Re: Colgate 2011-12

Congrats 'Gate. You were the better team tonight and between Mihalik and Wagner we couldn't do anything. Best of luck in AC... I'll be rooting for the underdogs again. I had a great time here in Hamilton this weekend (except for the result), but I don't really want to return anytime soon.

Re: Colgate 2011-12

Now there's a true ECAC rarity - the four top seeds headed to the semi's. Glad Gate could be a part of it. And here's to hoping for upset fever next weekend.

I'd rather have a Colgate-Cornell championship match. If we can get past Union, then perhaps the Big Red (should they beat Harvard) will have run out of gas pummeling the Crimson :)

So rare that it's happened four times in the 10 years that this playoff system has been in place. And, you have to go all the way back to 2009 to see the last time it happened. Man, that's so rare.

Congratulations to Gate on making it to AC. Good luck against Onion.

Good job of slamming the door.

I know for a fact that the media will be all over what happened last year.

I do agree it's tough to beat a team 3 times in one year. However, we just did it 5 times to RPI, so let's just say it's in our repertoire. ;)

Good luck to you folks on Friday. I hope no one gets injured. Safe trip down for those who are driving.

Keith.

Re: Colgate 2011-12

Great job by Don and the boys this weekend. That was a complete team effort last night by all. Mihalik was very good and made some key saves early. D was exceptional in clearing the front of the net and blocking shots. Wilson-Wagner-Smith huge weekend. Smith and Wagner now the leading point duo in the country with 56 and 50 for 106! Amazing.

Re: Colgate 2011-12

Can you say "Mihalik", sure you can ! Goalies win playoff games and I'm sure some confidence was gained last night looking foreward.

Wagner(5 goals) has quietly slid into a tie for fourth in scoring in the country !! Question...What's the size of the ice in AC ?
