Re: Colgate 2011-12

Should have stayed on 90; you would have saved about 2 bucks. Remember that on your way back. ;) Get off Exit 24 of the Thruway (from 25A to 24 is free, 25A is I-88), take 90 East, and you'll get back on it at B1. That bridge is free.

Funny, that's what I do whenever I'm going out towards Colgate, Syracuse, Utica, etc even though my GPS tells me to stay on the Thruway! Going west I get off at Exit B1 and going east I get off the Thruway at Exit 24! Sure, it's more toll booths to drive thru but I have a Fast Lane/EZPass and it's less money.

Mark -- if you follow those instructions on your way back, the only toll you'll have to pay is the 80 or so cents for traveling between Exits B1 and B3. Which is good, considering the decent amount of time you'll be spending on toll roads.

Oh, and Let's go 'Gate!

If you're heading out my way, I'd think you'd take 46/20/92 (unless of course you now live in New England).

Re: Colgate 2011-12

I've been living in New England since May 2009. 46-20-92 is the ideal route from 'Gate to Syracuse, though :)

I'm well aware; I travel it every year, sometimes twice a year. ;) However, I have a weird way to avoid the thruway going from Albany to Syracuse, and it's not US 20 (too many cops on that road). I have been known, though, to hop off exit B3 and shoot up to US 20 and avoid the pay part of the thruway.

Re: Colgate 2011-12

Not gonna say much here, but don't take your foot off the accelerator, 'Gate. Keep up the good work :)

Re: Colgate 2011-12

Game 1 was a good one (at least for you 'Gate fans). I thought both teams played well but the Raiders were more consistent. I fully expect a different result tomorrow night (and really want to do my part to help the local economy by staying another day in lovely Hamilton).

It was a pleasure to meet shabby at the game. Talked to some other friendly fans out in the lobby during the 1st intermission. Other than the result on the scoreboard I enjoyed my first visit to Starr. Like I said, I expect a different result tomorrow. ;)

Re: Colgate 2011-12

All in all, a good game and all we could ask for ! We came out very hard and could have scored several goals in the first five minutes. We were crashing the net like I haven't seen too much of this year, finally paid dividends as we scored at least one goal during a crazy scramble.

Mihalik played a solid game, on the second goal he was hung out to dry, Jones found himself all alone one on one and after some moves he put the puck past Mihalek, who got most of it but the puck barely slid in behind him.

Tied 2-2 after two, it was still anyone's game, another net crashing goal by Wagner and seventeen seconds later Firman scored into a pretty open net during another scramble with alot of traffic .

Questionable officiating on some penalty calls, seemed to be alot of makeup calls, I guess I don't mind that as long as it's even and doesn't change the outcome of the game(I guess).

Thought the d played fairly well and wish Smith hadn't gotten the empty netter called off (offsides) as it would have given him a three point night with two goals.

Three games would be no surprise , it's just that close. And nice meeting MarkEagle who made the trip with about twenty other diehard fans, expect another good one tonight !

Re: Colgate 2011-12

The clincher is always the toughest; let's hope the momentum from last night spills over 'til this evening. Sounds like it was a well contested game.

Re: Colgate 2011-12

Nice job, Colgate! Listened online, much to my wife's chagrin. :) Here's to a successful weekend!

Re: Colgate 2011-12

Listen on the radio

Sounds like we played a solid game. I was a bit concerned to hear about our PK scrambling a few times (some of which led to goals), but it sounds like they tightened up by the end

First goal remains important. Keep pouring it on 'Gate!

Re: Colgate 2011-12

Just want to mention, Sinz is playing his best hockey as a Raider(two assists last night too)

Good luck, Colgate! Stay out of the box, shoot the puck, win some faceoffs, don't let them cross the blue line (lol), and get that first goal...AC is yours for the taking!

Re: Colgate 2011-12

OK, which was worse: our neutral zone passing or the officiating??? These guys were not only bad (what else is new in the ECAC), but pretty much determined the outcome of the game...I thought we played quite poorly, save the second period...we're supposed to be good in transition...we were horrible tonight...D making bad choices, bad passes, good passes that went off sticks...you'd think it was 80 degrees at Starr (which it wasn't)...Price seems to be a marked man BTW...it's quite sad to see what should've been a quality hockey game turn into this...I blame the refs, but more importantly, we were pretty bad...

Re: Colgate 2011-12

I wouldn't say we were horrible, but rather Quinnipiac was playing the way a team with their backs against the wall should. As far as the officiating goes ... ughhh

I'll admit, as I expected this series is going the full 3 games. But I'm not ready for the season to end. It's kind of an awkward situation, winning Game 1 but losing Game 2 (usually its the other way around), but Colgate will come out firing on all cylinders tomorrow night. Just watch.

I would have to agree with that. We certainly did not play our best tonight, but at times, it appeared as if this game had been decided long before we even took the ice. And you know we aren't the only ones that had thoughts like that considering Vaughn was basically escorted off the ice and into the locker room after the game, all the while complaining to the referees. How can that many penalties be called, yet we didn't get a full 2 minute power play the entire game (in fact, a total power play time of less than two minutes combined!). Also, how can you review a play (Quinnipiac's 3rd goal) for more than 5 minutes and not overturn it?? What could you have looked at for that long, not to have something change your mind about what you originally called? That is very confusing to me...Another one was Price's delay of game penalty for covering the puck...is that only a penalty when we do it, because I know that Quinnipiac did last night, but was not called for it.

Oh well, no point in dwelling on the past (as long as these ref's aren't assigned game 3). Time to move on to tomorrow night, and we need to come out strong. If we do, we'll be able to advance to AC.

We've been here before. The bye and home ice did us no favors this time and Qpac was unphased after last weekend's 3-game playoff series. Playing a man down for half the game for whatever reasons only makes you more desperate.

The way we defend on the pk is frustrating...we stand and wait for shots to be taken. We dump and chase the puck a lot whereas Qpac would skate it in with more control. Play behind our own net causes turnovers and we're still losing our fair share of faceoffs. Those we won were turned over before we made it out of our own end. And the passing...just slow, sluggish and sloppy. Really admired Qpac's precision w/ the puck. Will be anxious to hear about that allowed goal...

Easy to be a critic, I know...just frustrated. Hope we live to see another day and watch a Hobey player crowned!

Go 'gate...

Re: Colgate 2011-12

Q-Pac came out like we did Friday night only it was 2-0 like six minutes in. They were the more desperate team. We battled back to tie it then it turned into a circus.

My comment Friday night was "Ticky tacky penalties are negligible as long as they even out and don't determine the final outcome" !! I never complain about the officiating, but last night was a "travesty". Something must be done !!!

I have never seen Don Vaughan having to be" physically restrained" off the ice at the end, Never ! Incompetence is the only way to describe the officiating, it cost us the game.

This.

Can't fall behind like that. We were battling back the entire time, and then giving up the goal with 7 seconds left in the period? Killer. I want to be upset at the officiating (and based on what I was listening to, I certainly feel justified), but poor officiating is one of the few constants in this conference over the years. Last night was just the latest episode. I don't fault DV for being upset (I'm glad to hear it)

Speaking of episodes I've seen before, once again it's gut-check time in a game 3 for the 'Gate. Start strong, make Q-pac chase the play, and grab this series by the throat. Why do I have a strange feeling that we'll avoid OT tonight....?

Re: Colgate 2011-12

So, how is it that the officiating can be consistently terrible year after year? And you will see that opinion espoused on almost every school's message board in the league. Ugh.

Well, all there is to do is play a strong enough game to negate whatever effect the officials might have tonight. Come out fast like they did on Friday night. It's going to be a tough one; it always was. Let's hope there's enough in the tank to get 'Gate to AC!
