Re: Colgate 2011-12

Just would like to confirm that yes, Ye Olde Pizza Pub on the outside of town is still awesome. The fried fish on Friday night is the best in Hamilton. I also highly recommend both Rusch's (Crispy Buffalo Chicken sandwich) and VJ's (great portions).

Re: Colgate 2011-12

My daughter and I will be making out first trip to Hamilton. Anything we need to know about the area? I think we're booked at the Colgate Inn which looks to be very close to campus and the rink.

Dress warm at Starr - IMO the coldest rink in the league that I've been to. Should be a good matchup this weekend, good luck Gate - my 2nd fav ECAC team :D.

Re: Colgate 2011-12

Rusch's Pub is 100 yards from the Colgate Inn and a great place for soup, sandwich and beverage. If you like mexican La Iguana's 50 yards from the Colgate Inn across the street. The Canal Barge also 75 yards from the Inn (across from Rusch's) has good coffee and hot muffins for breakfast every morning.

The rink is probably 1/2 a mile away from the Colgate Inn. If you wanted to you could park at the Inn when you get to down and walk everywhere all weekend.

Re: Colgate 2011-12

You're absolutely right Magoo...Smith needs to have a great series or with our lack of secondary scoring we might be cooked.

Re: Colgate 2011-12

I don't have many worries about the Smith-Wagner-Wilson line...it's, as usual, the need for secondary scoring and avoiding the BIG defensive zone mistake...Hartzell is good and Mihalik will have to match him...I'd call this one a toss-up...

Re: Colgate 2011-12

Yes, Smith obviously needs to have a big series. But to say he has to wake up or turn it up a notch is ridiculous, as he's been a notch above everyone else in the league all year. The keys will be scoring power play goals against the second-best penalty kill in the country, stopping their top line of Jones-Peca-Jones and solid team defense. If we do those three things, we'll like the results. This is about as even-matched a series as you can get.

Re: Colgate 2011-12

If I could eat any food on earth, it would be wings and taters from Ye Olde Pizza Pub.

But then again, that was 20 years ago. Maybe someone with more recent experience can confirm they are still great.

Been there recently. Yes, Marmot, they are still good. Meatball subs and wings/pizza are very tasty. It's about 2 miles north of town on 12-B on the right side, past the Price Chopper.

Re: Colgate 2011-12

Well it certainly sounds like we won't go hungry in Hamilton! ;)

What about the rink? Best place to park? When do the doors open? Is there a visitor's section? Are there places to stand (I hate sitting at hockey games)? Any idea what the crowds will be like this weekend (I understand the students leave for break on Friday)?

Are any of you forum regulars planning on attending? If anyone wants to hunt me down and say hi, I'll be proudly wearing my road blue jersey. Not sure how many Q fans will be making the trip but I expect to see at least some of the parents and maybe our AD and some others from the school.

Where did I say Smith had to "wake up"? Show me where I said that. All I meant was that he may have to be even better than he's been all year to beat Quinnipiac.

Parking is first come, first serve adjacent to the rink. Doors open about an hour before game time. Visitor's section is usually the "end-zone" seating behind the east goal. The "seating" there consists of benches, so stand as much as you want.

I suspect the crowds won't be very big, especially with students starting break. But have a good time ... of course, I won't be rooting for the same team as you ;)

Re: Colgate 2011-12

Mark...The crowds will not be large, hopefully some people will be there Friday night, rink only holds 2246. The only place you can stand is top row in visitors section behind the goal. Some of my friends have been told to sit down when they tried to stand top row or end of an aisle in the corner. Should be plenty of room.

Noone has mentioned the restaurant at Seven Oaks Golf course(just east of town on Payne St maybe half a mile) nice menu and hockey fans(like myself) at the very small bar. Very picturesque view of the college and surrounding hills.

What # jersey you wear(in case there's others) ?

Re: Colgate 2011-12

Both sides and only one end zone. The other end zone has the press box. It's just that there's only like six rows of seating the whole way round.

That, and quite frankly, behind the end zone has the best sight lines (assuming you don't mind the stantions holding up the glass). With the sides, at least when I went to women's games, the corners were quite difficult to see.

You can also stand on the General Admission benches (south side of rink) if you sit in the top row or two. Of course there may be more 'Gate fans there than QU fans, but with the students gone, there's little liklihood you will be mugged :)

Is there THAT much hatred between the only two full D-I scholarship-offering programs? :D
