Re: Colgate 2011-12

Quinnipiac it is. The Raiders and Bobcats met in the playoffs in 2006 and 2009. Now they will meet again in 2012.

The last time these teams met post-season, we saw three OT games. Don't think that will happen again but it should be a great series!

Guess we're due for a tango with the Bobcats every 3 years then...looks even on paper but that is meaningless come playoff time. Congrats to Quinny on their playoff wins. CU in Hamilton

Re: Colgate 2011-12

Q-Pac has a big edge in goaltending, and their penalty kill is by far #1 in the ECAC. We need to figure out some scoring.

Re: Colgate 2011-12

I wouldn't say so much goaltending, but team defense. I think Mihalik would have better numbers if our team played better team defense. Quinnipiac does a much better job at that. We will have to play solid and responsible defense if we hope to get through, because I don't think we'll be scoring many goals, three tops.

Re: Colgate 2011-12

Austin Smith is a good place to start. He may need to lift his game up a notch or 2.

Yeah seriously, what a bum. Only 34 goals and 52 points and just three games without recording a point. #sarcasm

In all seriousness, it's fairly simple what has to happen for the Raiders to win this weekend. Four things have to happen for the team to advance on to Atlantic City. Play strong in the defensive end, stay out of the penalty box (i.e. no bad penalties), win the special teams battle and get secondary scoring. The Wilson-Wagner-Smith line will be fine and it will be helped by the fact that Colgate has the last change meaning that Quinnipiac will not be able to match lines as much as it would like. However, one would suspect that the Bobcats will be keying on the Smith line so goals from the other lines/d-men will be paramount in winning the series. In the two regular season games, Colgate had zero secondary scoring and really almost no scoring at all - Smith had a hat trick in the game at home and Wagner scored the only goal in the game at Quinnipiac. The Raiders have to find a way to get everyone else going.

Re: Colgate 2011-12

I don't think we'll have scoring issues. I do agree team D needs to be as strong as it can be like in the Cornell series. It should be a very entertaining series. I think the week off is a huge benefit for us this year.

Re: Colgate 2011-12

Hartzell is a big goalie(6-4) and his GAA in league play is 1.94 and a save percentage of .924 Those are phenominal numbers, especially compared to Mihalek's 2.7 GAA and save percentage of .901. Q-Pac's penalty kill is 91 per cent. Unreal ! As mentioned we scored four goals in two games and three by Austin in one !

Re: Colgate 2011-12

I wasn't joking about Smith. He may need to have a big series in order for us to advance.

My daughter and I will be making out first trip to Hamilton. Anything we need to know about the area? I think we're booked at the Colgate Inn which looks to be very close to campus and the rink.

I didn't get a chance to go there since it's usually just a quick trip for me, but is that micro-brew open downtown yet? I read about it in the Post-Standard.

If you're looking for civilization, you may want to shoot out to my neck of the woods. Only about 45 minutes away.

Eagle - Inn is about 3/4 mile -- maybe a mile -- from the rink which is directly south on Broad Street. One stop light in town, ultra rural. The Inn has a good bar and food; Nichols & Beal, next door, has adequate food, burgers, etc. There is an Indian restaurant and a Thai or Chinese place in town (correct me if I'm wrong Shabby). Mickey D's, Subway, and a new diner toward the north end of town on Rte 12-B. There is reputed to be a good pizza joint on one of the side streets, but I'll be ****ed if I can find it. The rink has food, but prices are elevated. Fire away if any other questions...Hava a good time (but not too good).

Re: Colgate 2011-12

I really fear Q-Pac. I was at the game in Hamden in January in which they DESTROYED us. It's not gonna be easy . . .

If I could eat any food on earth, it would be wings and taters from Ye Olde Pizza Pub.

But then again, that was 20 years ago. Maybe someone with more recent experience can confirm they are still great.

Enjoy the drive out. It's very, VERY scenic. From the center of town, drive south on Broad Street (Rte. 12B) for about a mile through two sets of lights. The rink will be on the right a bit after the 2nd light. The Colgate Inn is in the center of Hamilton and doubles as a restaurant/bar.

You mean New York Pizzeria (a.k.a. "Slices") on Lebanon Street. That pizza is delicious! There's also Oliveri's across the street from Slices. Both sell wings but Oliveri's has some other Italian options.

Of course, there's a McDonalds, Subway, and Dunkin' Donuts just north of the center of Hamilton, all on Route 12B, but I personally prefer Slices.

Not a local myself - but last time I visited Hamilton, our group had a post-game meal at Rusch's on Lebanon St and I thought it was very good.

Here's to post #800
Adding to 'GateRadio's assessment of winning the series...
We need to win more faceoffs
We need to score first and not play from behind
We need to hold a lead for a change
Agree with the penalties...we'll never win if we're in the box, and some penalties lately have been serious. Have also given up our fair share of SHGs which is shameful.
Disappointed about timing of spring break but our record at home is better than away so hopefully that's something positive.
Quinnipiac is a great team.
Glad Cashman and Wong are gone ;)
