Colgate 2011-12

Re: Colgate 2011-12

What was that? We basically reverted to last year's form tonite.....team just didn't show up. Just proves on any given Friday night -- or Saturday night -- in the ECAC anything can happen..:(

Well, it's all on the line tomorrow. It couldn't be a more difficult game. Somehow we've gotta put this catastrophe behind us and rally with a win vs the Dutch. They will be going for the Cup so it won't be a piece of cake. But..gotta keep the faith..

Re: Colgate 2011-12

Ughhh

We outshot RPI 51-23, the Engineers can't stay out of the penalty box, yet we lose. Yes, LOSE. ZERO points. We are now in grave danger of losing the bye. And if we do, we will most likely play RPI or Brown, two teams that gave us trouble on home ice.

I'm not ready for this season to end very early, but I hope we aren't pulling a choke job like the Red Sox did back in September.

Sometimes you just get one of those feelings, when you pepper shots but just can't get anything in, that things just may not go right for you in the end. I know we were in that situation a couple times last year. In fact, I'd say that our series was exactly the same as last year's, only with the jerseys swapped.

You do have the advantage of the curse tomorrow (and although it was broken last year, I still think it's a fluke). Best of luck in going for the bye. :)

Re: Colgate 2011-12

I'll wait until tonight's game before any comments...suffice it to say, the second half of this season has been disappointing

Re: Colgate 2011-12

I can't resist...for those of you who watched the RPI game consider the circumstances of the first three RPI goals...a terrible giveaway by the goalie, leading to an open net goal for the Engineers...a second goal with 2 seconds left in the second period (again a defensive zone draw CLEANLY lost), and, after I'm sure, being told about not giving up goals at the beginning or near the end of a period, giving up the 3rd RPI goal 15 SECONDS into period #3...

You left out the fact that the secondary scoring has disappeared as no goals have been scored save by the top line for the last three games. It's tough to win when you're a one line team.

Re: Colgate 2011-12

OK...Driving myself nuts here(a short drive though)

If we win tonight we get the bye. If we lose, and, Harvard and Yale win, we wind up tied with Yale for fourth with 23 points.

Hence we go to a tiebreaker. First is head to head which is 1-1. Second tiebreaker is Points vs top four.

Yale has six points vs Colgate(1-1) Cornell (0-2) Union (1-1) Harvard (1-1)

Colgate has seven points Cornel (2-0) Yale (1-1) Union (0-2) Harvard (0-1-1) We win tiebreaker for bye

I'm not doin ties lol (tired) Feel free to check me on these.

Re: Colgate 2011-12

Congrats to RPI, gutsy win and good redemption from earlier this season. Never can understimate those #12 seeds... ;)

Wish we could have taken care of business instead of needing help. Never an effective way to get results you're looking for. Ironically, despite sweeping them in the RS, my guess is Cornell has never wanted Colgate to win more than tonight.

We had a terrible game against Union and barely scored against their backup goalie. I'm worried we won't stay out of the penalty box and that will be the end. Smith is a great player but is wearing a bullseye. Our home ice didn't sound like much of an advantage last night, not that Starr is an intimidating place to play anyway!

Congratulations, Seniors!
Go 'Gate!

Re: Colgate 2011-12

Actually, I think at this point, Cornell wants Colgate to lose their next 3 straight and drop below .500 in RPI (if possible - not sure if it is) so they're not a TUC. All things being equal, I'd gladly take the 2 seed in the ECAC tourney if it meant moving up to a 2 seed for the NCAA tourney.

We can still take care of business tonight! Any result that is NOT a loss gives us a weekend off. I'm sure energy is flying high tonight. We're capable of defeating nationally ranked teams, and we're capable of defeating Union (see last yr's playoffs).

Let's go 'Gate! Win one for our seniors!

Re: Colgate 2011-12

If I'm right, somehow all of the results of tonight kept 'Gate in 4th place.

That said, based upon the results of the last two weekends it's difficult to remain optimistic.

Re: Colgate 2011-12

Let's hope the week off helps the team work some things out as I am not looking forward to seeing Q-Pac if they can beat Brown. I was at the game in Hamden, and they drilled us. And will Bourdon be suspended for Game #1 for his game misconduct tonight? That sure won't help.

Re: Colgate 2011-12

Game misconduct means ejected for THAT game. It is NOT a game disqualification, so unless the league decides to intervene, Bourdon will be able to play. Of course, they decided to suspend Wagner several days after his hit back in December...

Somehow, we managed to hold onto 4th. Hopefully the weekend off will allow us to regroup and get our bearings straightened out.
