Re: Colgate 2011-12

Rooting for you guys too next weekend. Here's hoping Union leaves Central NY without points next weekend.
Gate Radio seemed to indicate Clarkson's goals were of the dirty kind, and Evan just couldn't control the rebounds. Sounded like we outplayed the Nights at least in the first two periods, but ran out of gas in the third, which is understandable.

Would like to know who recommends the restaurants we go to in Canton or Potsdam. Might want to switch gears in future years - get takeout at Hamilton's McDonalds if necessary :) Seems like I remember this happening once before.

Is the RPI game a "trap game" seeing as how Union will be at Starr on Saturday? I hope not. We've gotta focus on the Engineers above all else and get it done; leave it all on the ice and face Saturday on Saturday. I'm sure there will be plenty of motive to down the Dutchmen, but can't look ahead. Hopefully our Big Red brethern will tire them out Fri.

Re: Colgate 2011-12

I can confirm that several Cornell players missed a Saturday night game after getting food poisoning from the Canton Pizza Hut following the Friday game. I can't remember what year it was (many years ago now) or whether Saturday's opponent was SLU or Clarkson. "Canton Pizza Hut" is a recurring meme over on eLynah.

It was mid 90's and the Saturday opponent was a fortuitous SLU team :)

Re: Colgate 2011-12

Two untimely losses, yet we make it into the national polls and stay at #21 in the PWR?! Someone [try to] keep it simple for me...will a split this coming weekend earn us a first round bye?

I am not looking past RPI; Colgate/Smith & Co. are containable by any team. Our lack of discipline and vulnerable pk are our own worst enemies and our ability to score 5x5 seems a bit inconsistent against better teams. The close 2-1 loss at Union is not a good indicator of how poorly we played them. Hope we can give them everything we've got and make a game of it.

First Round Bye or Bust
Go #20 Colgate!

Re: Colgate 2011-12

Coach said 11 guys had the virus on Saturday night. IMO we still out chanced Clarkson and if the boys were healthy I have no doubt they would have spanked Clarkson. Smith now with 49 points will hit 50 this Friday night. I hope there is a great crowd to welcome the boys home and to support them as they attempt to secure a bye.

Just for fun and a bit of a diversion with some recent history stats. Here are the leaders in PIMs in a season for Gate. Great List. Look who is #10. How about #1, Scott Young? That averages out to 4.8 PIMS PER GAME. Amazingly he still had 37 points and was a D. Best part is Young holds 3 positions in the top 10, #1, #3 and #9.

Re: Colgate 2011-12

Where's Fridgen, he's top five in PM's ? Anyone remember John Dandy, where's McGonagle ?

Re: Colgate 2011-12

Just got the news from the top, SIXTEEN players had the virus by gametime, a virus not food poisoning. I wonder if it's running thru the Clarkson team now ?? We're healthy now though !!!

Re: Colgate 2011-12

Thanks Shabby for the info. I give the boys credit for battling through it. It's a shame, had they all been healthy I have no doubt they would have beat Clarkson.

Re: Colgate 2011-12

Update on The Cornwall Colts Tier1 JR A hockey team record currently 40-12

Top four scorers on team all coming to Colgate next year. Tyson Spink 46GP 35 G 44 assists 79 points

Tylor Spink averaging almost three points per game

Let's beat RPI and get the bye.

Re: Colgate 2011-12

Thanks for the recruit update Shabby. I'm already salivating about next season. Wish Austin could stick around for one more year.:)

Any knowledge about the goalies scheduled for this weekend? Who's starting tonight?

Re: Colgate 2011-12

Good article on Austin Smith from a Texas newspaper:

http://www.tmdailypost.com/article/sports/america-s-best-college-hockey-player-texas

It's funny, because I've thought about the RGIII comparison for Smith--great numbers for a school not a traditional powerhouse, the absolute foundation of the program, etc., etc. Hopefully, Austin can have a great final weekend of the regular season to really put an exclamation point on his Hobey bid. I think for him to have a legitimate chance it is imperative that the Raiders earn a bye. Again, that would be comparable to RGIII's Baylor Bears who did not win their league but finished very competitively (beating both Oklahoma and Texas). To that end, it would be great if 'Gate could beat Union. Another win over a Top 20 team would certainly serve to enhance his candidacy.

Awful. How can you play that game with everything on the line??? I won't even get into the litany of badness emanating from that game. I want to throw my computer out the window.

Now 'Gate has to beat Union tomorrow. Based upon the performance tonight it's really hard to be optimistic.

Re: Colgate 2011-12

Ughhh

We outshot RPI 51-23, the Engineers can't stay out of the penalty box, yet we lose. Yes, LOSE. ZERO points. We are now in grave danger of losing the bye. And if we do, we will most likely play RPI or Brown, two teams that gave us trouble on home ice.

I'm not ready for this season to end very early, but I hope we aren't pulling a choke job like the Red Sox did back in September.
