Re: Colgate 2011-12

Oh man, Scott Young--he was a senior when I was a freshman. He was somewhat . . . cantankerous.

Awesome red mustache though.

Re: Colgate 2011-12

SK8...You showed your lack of knowledge. Besides holding the scoring record for goals in a season, Fridge is also a penalty leader for us. Flagdude was being facetious, an apology is in order ! Please.

Your're the one who owes the apology.....please!!:D

Re: Colgate 2011-12

From memory...Fridgen in 1981-82 season, 38 goals, 17 assists (the great Steve Smith provided a lot of Fridgen's assists)...in the NCAA year of 1980-81 Fridgen scored 37 goals and 31 assists, tying Clarkson's Bryan Cleaver for ECAC scoring lead at 68 points...Tommy Earl, the All-American in 1969-70 (the year we were totally screwed out of the eighth seed - don't get me started) scored 37 goals and 25 assists for 62 points (in only 24 games)...of course, we have to adjust for the progression of college hockey over the years...in doing so, Boivin's 31 goals in 1988-89 (he was also an All-American) and Andy McDonald's numbers in 1999-00 look very, very competitive...if one takes the Bill James (and Steven Gould's) approach to the overall convergence of talent and parity over time, Austin's numbers (knock on wood) are superior...NJ Devils exec Dave Conte played on Earl's line and comprised very high numbers himself...Wagner is to Smith as Conte was to Earl...the talent level today is obviously higher...the greatest 'Gate team of all time (1989-90 at 31-6-1 and NCAA runner-up had two All-Americans, Joel Gardner and Dave Gagnon) had tremendous balance, with three great scoring lines and a tough and nasty fourth line...BTW that year we started at least three freshmen defensemen...BTW, that weekend in Detroit (and Windsor, Ontario) is one I'll never forget...

Re: Colgate 2011-12

Really nice article about Mark Nasca '12 on the ECAC Hockey website. Go 'Gate!!

Re: Colgate 2011-12

How are we looking for ticket sales this week? Would love to see the same support for the team that was present at the Cornell game.

Re: Colgate 2011-12

Unfortuneately no way I would bet. We need to win these two games at home to solidify our top four standing. Yale shut us out in New Haven earlier this year. You never know what to expect from Brown this year, I believe they swept Union!!!

We haven't beaten Yale at home since 2006-07.

Correct, Brown swept Union this year; we haven't beaten Yale at Starr since Jan. 2007. I will be very, VERY disappointed if we earn less than 3 pts this weekend. That said, we're at home and both Yale and Brown are struggling. But anything can happen on any given night in the ECAC. A 4-pt weekend is definitely do-able but we need to earn them!

Re: Colgate 2011-12

even though Yale's second goal was really a non-goal, I thought the hockey gods were looking kindly upon us tonight...Yale's been pretty unlucky all year and tonight was no exception...I'd prefer NOT to play them in the playoffs...I'll take the two points, but I don't think we played especially well this evening...

Re: Colgate 2011-12

I'll agree with you GreenCoat ... not our best effort, but we got the lucky bounces and Yale didn't. Well, they did with their 2nd goal, but we at least won the game. A win is a win, regardless of how ugly it is.

We're 28-5-2 against Brown at Starr. Let's take care of business against the Bears tomorrow night like we usually do :)

Re: Colgate 2011-12

Next to Cornell weekend I thought perhaps this was the largest home crowd of the season.

Yale seems to have smallish players but man, are they fast and good skaters/passers. I echo Greencoat's sentiments: this is a team I would not like to meet in the playoffs. But then, when you think about it, what team would we like to meet? ;)

Re: Colgate 2011-12

Either team could have won but we got some breaks ,those are the games you have to win. Yale is a very fast team and seems to be one or two players away from being a very good team. They outplayed us badly in the third(shots 15-6) .

First star to Lidgett, two goals and two assists, some secondary scoring which is essential to how far we go. Thought Austin Mayer (two assists) had a great game also. Michalik very solid, some goalmouth scrambling had me holding my breath.

Something I don't understand, McPherson and Larkin, both six feet four, never hit anyone. With that size they should be pummeling people but they never hit anyone. Last night it looked like they couldn't catch the small quick forwards. You have to be more physical.

I think Yale can beat a slower Cornell team tonight, and if we take care of business we'll be tied for second. Would be big if Q-Pac beats Clarkson tonight also. Beat Bruno !!
Crowd was way more than 1100, 15-1600 anyway.

Re: Colgate 2011-12

Are we playing up to -- or down to -- the level of our competition lately? Another football score. A W is a W, as they say. Onward to the North Country!

Re: Colgate 2011-12

Ugly, ugly game. But a win is a win, and it's a 4-point weekend.

Up next, Appleton Arena, a rink we constantly struggle at. Gotta put this weekend in the rear view mirror and focus on what's ahead.

Re: Colgate 2011-12

Not the prettiest game last night, or our best play this weekend, but a win is a win is a win. I can't remember the last time we had a 4 pt. weekend against Brown & Yale and we've clinched at the very least a top 8 spot, although at this point anything but a bye would be a disappointment. In a relatively quiet weekend for the top line, we got big time secondary scoring all across the board, from lines 2 and 3 as well as the defensemen. The offense seems to have reawakened with 19 goals in the last 3 games, so just as long as we can tighten up defensively we should be fine for what is to come.

John Lidgett and the other 2 regular frosh as well deserve a paragraph of their own. What a weekend for the frosh. He, Wilson, and Goulakos are no longer playing like freshmen and have a bright future, combining for 4 of the 11 goals this weekend.
