Re: Colgate 2011-12
From memory...Fridgen in 1981-82 season, 38 goals, 17 assists (the great Steve Smith provided a lot of Fridgen's assists)...in the NCAA year of 1980-81 Fridgen scored 37 goals and 31 assists, tying Clarkson's Bryan Cleaver for ECAC scoring lead at 68 points...Tommy Earl, the All-American in 1969-70 (the year we were totally screwed out of the eighth seed - don't get me started) scored 37 goals and 25 assists for 62 points (in only 24 games)...of course, we have to adjust for the progression of college hockey over the years...in doing so, Boivin's 31 goals in 1988-89 (he was also an All-American) and Andy McDonald's numbers in 1999-00 look very, very competitive...if one takes the Bill James (and Steven Gould's) approach to the overall convergence of talent and parity over time, Austin's numbers (knock on wood) are superior...NJ Devils exec Dave Conte played on Earl's line and comprised very high numbers himself...Wagner is to Smith as Conte was to Earl...the talent level today is obviously higher...the greatest 'Gate team of all time (1989-90 at 31-6-1 and NCAA runner-up had two All-Americans, Joel Gardner and Dave Gagnon) had tremendous balance, with three great scoring lines and a tough and nasty fourth line...BTW that year we started at least three freshmen defensemen...BTW, that weekend in Detroit (and Windsor, Ontario) is one I'll never forget...
