Bill- I finally have you figured out...you aren't a glass half full guy, you aren't a glass half empty guy, you are a half empty glass got knocked off the counter and hit the floor; the glass broke and you stepped in the broken glass and cut your foot type of guy.
HockeyEh, I don't get your posts about TchrBill. I'm sure he's a good guy who loves the team just like all of us on this board. I don't see his disappointment being any worse than anyone else's. Whaddaya say we just stay focused on the games and minimize the barbs at each other?

Re: Colgate 2011-12

Echoing GreenCoat's sentiments, cannot stress how important it is to get back on the winning track tonight. A whole slew of teams are right behind vying for that first round bye. And tonight will surely not be easy, RPI has played well over the last month, and it's their Big Freakout. Will be interesting to see how the team reacts after a tough loss last night . . .

Re: Colgate 2011-12

Colgate gets the touchdown - RPI gets the field goal. Very appropriate on Super Bowl Weekend. :)

Wish we could have gotten some of these last night. Congrats to Austin on his hat trick and a third. 30 on the season!! Wow!

Re: Colgate 2011-12

obviously, love the game, love the result...great for Austin and great for those who've been snakebit recently, Prockow, etc. Having won the game I'd like to mention the competency of refereeing in the ECAC (much better to do after a win, rather than a tough loss)...the job of the referees is to call the game consistently as they (however imperfectly) interpret the rules...the refs tonight were awful, and especially awful in the last couple of minutes...we live in such a politically correct society that apparently the refs have decided that with the score 8-1 they have some sort of God-given obligation to make the losing team feel better (hence the two ridiculous - or at least one really ridiculous call - against the 'Gate)...frankly, I'd feel the same way if we were getting whacked 8-1...this is BS...in the last period RPI played with class - legitimate hits, no cheap stuff, etc. - and I would expect that from a school with a great academic and hockey tradition. They don't need the "sympathy" of referees who have decided that an 8-1 final is too much of negative self-esteem issue for the Engineers. They can handle it; they've come back from a really bad season to become a good hockey team, not unlike our resurrection late last year. This reminds me of the new rule in Connecticut high school football (Conn the most liberal and pathetic state this side of Vermont) that you are not allowed to win by more than 50 points in a high school football game...in other words, play the kids who've ridden the bench for a few years and tell him to tank...a minor point perhaps, but so cultural in nature I feel compelled to mention it...otherwise...YES YES YES YES ...Evin looked really good in the nets (hopefully both goalies will push each other for playing time)...AUSTIN RULES...GO GATE

I think the one thing that everyone on this board (and probably all of the ECAC boards) would agree on is that the officiating the ECAC is consistently atrocious.

Re: Colgate 2011-12

Hey,guys. First of all congrats on the win, that was painful to watch. Smith is one hell of a player and i expect to see you guys playing in AC come March.Earlier today i started an RPI blog just for fun and tonight was the first game recap which can be found here: http://homeathfh.tumblr.com . Any feed back would be appreciated as its in its early stages (please excuse grammatical mistakes,i'm a highschooler used to texting :P)

in addition to my previous rant (which I think is correct and in some ways very sad - welcome to our culture) I thought the coverage by RPI tonight was excellent...much better than last year's offering...best of luck to Seth and the Engineers for the rest of the year...over the last three years you guys have lost a lot of talent too early...one wonders if those leaving early should've gone the full four years - excellent education, great experience...

Re: Colgate 2011-12

2 convincing points on the road are great but would rather have played like a contender against Union, too. hats off to smith, pun intended. when he scores, we have a chance.

refs did seem awful, but without seeing the game also sounded like we took senseless penalties that would be dangerous against Union or Cornell. vaughan seemed to show dissatisfaction in some of his players with regard to those penalties as well. don't quite get the collapse at the end of the third when we gave up 2 goals and several breakaways. 60 minutes of hockey, 60 minutes of football...need a full game from top to bottom and left a sour taste in an otherwise great result.

My level-headedness picked us to lose to U and beat RPI whereas many on here picked us to beat Union or lose to RPI. Don't quite get that; I'd better come up with some strange glass analogies!

Go 'Gate

Re: Colgate 2011-12

Got back from the game last night around 12:30. While Austin Smith deserves 1st star of the game with his FOUR-goal night (he now has THIRTY on the season!), a lot of credit has to be given to Austin Mayer. He had THREE shorthanded breakaways in addition to scoring a goal of his own. Three of our four lines lit the lamp last night and got out of their funk. And the 4th line, though they didn't score last night, scored on Friday night. Outside of Smith-Wagner-Wilson, the other forward lines have broken out of their scoring funk. Robbie Bourdon joins Austin Smith and Chris Wagner in the "double digit" goal total this year. If there was a game where we turned it up a notch, it was last night.

Yes, the game got sloppy in the last 5 min. but it was basically "mop-up" time. Had the game been 3-1 or 4-2 we would have seen a strong level of intensity all the way to the final horn. Still, nice to score a touchdown and a 2-pt conversion :)

Super Bowl Sunday, GO PATS!

Re: Colgate 2011-12

Stat of the weekend. I believe every forward that played this weekend either had a goal or an assist. Friday at Union the 4th line stepped up and scored. On Saturday at RPI the other 9 forwards put up at least one point. if this keeps up for the next 6 weeks things could become very interesting down the stretch.

SK8...You showed your lack of knowledge. Besides holding the scoring record for goals in a season, Fridge is also a penalty leader for us. Flagdude was being facetious, an apology is in order ! Please.

Maybe I misunderstood but he was stating national record. As far as Colgate record for penalty minutes, Scott Young holds the career penalty minutes for Colgate! I also thought he broke the record for penalty minutes in a season as well!!

I know Fridgen lost one of his records in 2005-06.
