Congrats to Smitty on the POTY.

Win or lose, just thrilled for Coach V and the players to make it this far. Hate that Smith's accomplishments may be overlooked because of the league's reputation or not making it to the NCAAs. TVcoverage would have been nice!

Re: Colgate 2011-12

Congrats to:
Austin Smith - ECAC Player of the Year and 1st Team All-League
Chris Wagner - 2nd Team All-League
Thomas Larkin - 3rd Team All-League

Now let's collect the big hardware

Bring home the Whitelaw!

LET'S GO 'GATE!

Re: Colgate 2011-12

Time to change the puppet Master... cant pull the right strings anymore
17 years...Great guy, Great job fund raising on behalf of Colgate
Just time to get some new blood behind the bench...... Cant keep trying to be competitive with 4 players every year.

It has gotten old, as am I. I want the chance to WIN the first game in the semis........it has only happened ONCE since 1990. I absolutely LOVE Colgate hockey, but I am getting way too old and way too weary to fight the good fight, game in and game out. SOMETHING has to change.

Vaughan will follow the same path as Marsh. If a new rink is (somewhere) on the horizon, that may help. It isn't just the coach, but the administration.

BTW congrats to Lehigh. Football, basketball...they're doing something right in Bethlehem. Congrats to Bucknell, too - nice day for the Patriot League.

Go 'Gate
Cornell or Bust

Re: Colgate 2011-12

We can end Cornell's season tonight with a win, they need a win or tie to get in, a loss they're out. Hmmm, I must be getting soft, a tie would be ok I guess.

What is taking so long for the new rink ?? Don't start on Vaughan, 4.5 players a year needs to change. Not his fault !!!

Tough, tough loss. Seems like the energy level was there, but bad mistakes and Union's overall size/skill was just too much. Can't make any errors in these tournament games.

It's difficult to beat any team 3 times in a season, but the kids have something to fight for in the consy. Just have to get the energy up one more time.

Did anyone watch the game on rpi-tv? I did. Did you have your screen freeze often. Either my computer stinks or the transmission was off. Interrupted at the most inopportune times, like when goals were scored, etc. I had Gate Radio's call on in the background and was watching the game but the two were not coordinated, so the delay made for a very crazy and frustrating afternoon. Need to get this tourney back up north were it belongs.....

I think our lack of depth, mental toughness and physicality was exposed all at once against Union. Also Union is very very very good. Good luck to them in the NCAA's.

I watched the game online. Didn't have any issues with the game "freezing". If you had problems, then it was most likely your hardware or your Internet bandwidth. That said, the picture quality was actually very good. For those technically inclined, it was most likely between 480p "enhanced" definition and 720p high definition. Much better quality than the quarterfinal series vs. Qpac.

As for the game ... less than 2 minutes in when Union scored on a very, VERY fluky dump-in shot from just inside the blue line, I knew this was going to be an uphill battle. Call it a curse if you must. Taking a too-many-men penalty resulting in a Union PPG, as well as yielding a SHG (cardinal sin!) didn't help. It HURT us. At least we scored 2 goals and didn't get shut out like we did in 2006, 2008, and 2011.

Beat Cornell. That is all. We can end their season though it could result in just 1 ECAC team making the NCAA's.

Re: Colgate 2011-12

made it down and back without incident, although I spent the night in Toms River...too tired, too disappointed and (yes) a little angry...at least I got to play some blackjack next door...I like to meet the bonehead(s) who thought AC would be an acceptable venue...first goal simply awful and we're simply not deep enough to make inexcusable defensive mistakes against a skilled and physical Union team...I wish them the best in the NCAAs...as for us? The next two incoming classes better be more than average, let's put it that way...sadly, our program seems to be in the business of establishing a "ceiling" and not a "floor"...0-9 in play-in games since 1990 I believe...we DID stop the non-goal scoring streak in semi games at around 220 minutes (Wilson's goal was first since Joey Mormina against Harvard with 45 seconds to go in regulation in 2005...we might consider taking a page from Union to see how a program can actually be competitive at the national level...accountability up and down the line wouldn't be a bad place to start...I win (doubtful) against Cornell wouldn't hurt either...
