Re: Colgate 2011-12

you can always count on HockeyEh to add his/her two cents whenever anybody has the nerve to criticize a team's performance...Karnak, how would you describe the third period??? BTW, the timeout in the third period should've been called at 4-2, not 4-3...by then the damage was done...

Criticize with some meaningful comments. Secondary scoring was the previous criticism. Now everyone but Smith should be buried. Win as a team loose as a team. My only criticism, coaches were getting secondary scoring but back to the old days when we counted on Winch and Burton. overplayed one line versus rolling 4. Dartmouth sat back and we played into their strengths versus playing to ours.Should have worn them down instead of us. Thought we got on our heals as the Dartmouth goals started coming. We didn't buckle down - we panicked. That is my criticism.

Re: Colgate 2011-12

first of all, I didn't say everyone but Smith should be buried...I HAVE been saying for five years that we have a lack of scoring depth on lines #2, #3 and #4...the fact that we did get some help for Smith-Wagner-Wilson doesn't change a trend that has persisted for five years...our defensemen have had coverage problems for the last two years and that tendency has reared its ugly head over the past two to three weeks...a team with as many seniors on it as we have (and many three year starters as juniors) shouldn't panic...again, a timeout after Dartmouth's second goal would've helped...and frankly the goaltending, even if it's been left out to dry, hasn't been stellar...coming up??? it would be nice one year if we could actually beat Cornell...

Re: Colgate 2011-12

As Gate Radio emphasized, the big hit by Wagner on the Dartmouth player at the end of the 2nd period (forget his name; possible concussion) probably energized the Big Green in the locker room before the 3rd. That, plus a stemwinder of a speech by Gaudet, propelled D'mouth to come out for blood. Instead of playing our game and taking it to them, it seemed we backed down and had a complete meltdown in many phases of our game. I thought I'd never go through a "Yale '09" game again in my lifetime, but I was wrong :(

I need to go out and tie one on today and rid myself of the memories of last night. Hopefully the Giants will come through..

Re: Colgate 2011-12

It's not on the box score but it should be noted that there was indeed a time out called after Dartmouth's second goal of the third period that made the game 4-3. There was also another time out called later in the third.

Re: Colgate 2011-12

IMO too many guys not willing to physically engage in the 3rd period. If you're not willing to pay the price you should not be on the ice.

Re: Colgate 2011-12

Even though last night's result made me want to vomit, the overall weekend could have been worse. We still got 1 point and we're still in 4th place, whereas Yale got swept at home for the 1st time in recent memory.

Still, had we won last night we would have had confidence and momentum going into the Cornell games. Wonder if we'll be able to get fired up now? A win against the Big Red could serve as a springboard to future success. They say winning breeds confidence. It's not how you start, it's how you finish. The games in March are the ones that count and right now our focus is getting that 1st-round bye...

Re: Colgate 2011-12

Three points separate 3rd place from 10th. Anything can happen. I share Rainman's hope that a win vs. Cornell would be a great way to make a march to March. Is it possible we will be so fired up after this disaster we could even win one at Lynah (or a tie?). If so, would we have enough in the tank to win again on Sat. night? It's probably too much to hope for a sweep but getting three pts should be our aim, if not four. One thing we will need in abundance is great goaltending. There will be a lot of SOG in both games.

Glancing in the rearview mirror it looks like Brown, Clarkson and Dartmouth are moving up and improving every game. We need to hang on to that 4th position.

Re: Colgate 2011-12

Rainman...I appreciate your optimism, but it's difficult to believe how it could've been worse this weekend...Harvard: totally (and I mean totally) dominated in third period - SOG were 16-1 - but we get one point. Don't get me wrong: sometimes the better teams doesn't win and I thought we did play well. Saturday night was (quite simply) a disaster and one hopes this is not a foreshadowing of things to come...Dartmouth took a 3-goal hit late in the second period plus a legal open ice hit on the third goal and turned it around...they didn't come out in the next period and take a serious of retaliatory penalties, they took it to our net and scored 2 goals 95 seconds into the period...we continue to make very fundamental defensive mistakes, mistakes I thought we had corrected in late 2011. NOW is the time for this team to step up, get at least splits with Union and Cornell and make a statement...that also means getting everyone playing physically (smart physical play)...great to see Joey Wilson throwing his body all over the ice and really contributing to the talents of Smith and Wagner...frankly, I don't see that often enough on our second and third lines...

Re: Colgate 2011-12

beating a dead horse...the line of Smith-Wagner-Wilson is a combined PLUS 35...no other forward on this team has a plus rating this year...quick note: when a stated taking a timeout after Dartmouth's second goal, I meant their second goal of the game, not their second goal of the period...and, yes, I did think this at the time...

Re: Colgate 2011-12

Ok. So here is my two cents of optimism.

A sweep this weekend changes everything. Catapults the team up the pairwise and puts us two points behind Cornell with the all important tie breaker in hand. Also, leaves us 4 points out of 1st assuming that Union sweeps this weekend. Next weekend we head to Union and RPI. A sweep there gets us 2 points behind 1st regardless of Cornell's results next weekend. I see the last game of the year, at home against Union as the game to decide the Cleary Cup. Who's with me?

My glass is way more than half filled.

Re: Colgate 2011-12

With you all the way 100% !! It's why they play the games !!! Go Raiders !!!

Re: Colgate 2011-12

Is Colgate now covered under a Utica/Rome segment of TWCS instead of Syracuse? I was fully expecting Saturday's game to be broadcast on channel 13...

Re: Colgate 2011-12

The game is on CBS Sportschannel which is 815 HD and I think 242 non HD. I don't think it's on Time Warner sports.

OK, that would explain things.

BTW, I just checked Channel 13's schedule, and next Saturday's game with RPI will not be shown in the area, instead will be Binghamton basketball. The game is being aired on TWCS in the Albany area.

Friday's game is nationally televised on CBS Sports Network. Saturday's game is not televised, but can be viewed online (for a fee, of course).
