Re: Colgate 2011-12

signing off after a long weekend (we lovers of 'Gate hockey have had a very, very long weekend) I would just like to thank both Critsports ad Gaterrooter for two of the best posts I've been privileged to read in over five years...thanks guys/gals...I want to believe...

Re: Colgate 2011-12

Great posts..thank you crit, gaterrooter and Mark. It ain't over till it's over !

Re: Colgate 2011-12

Hopefully next weekend will bring better results. It was interesting to see Smith in person on Saturday afternoon. Not his best night statistically but he sure seemed to consistently be better than anyone on the ice for either team.

Re: Colgate 2011-12

In brighter news, '12-'13 recruits playing for the Cornwall Colts, Michael Borkowski (7th in league scoring), Tyson Spink (8th in league scoring) and Tylor Spink (16th in league scoring despite playing 1/2 as many games as everyone else) are looking good. I don't know what the overall caliber of that league is, but it sure looks like we are getting three of the better forwards from it. I wonder if they are all playing on the same line in Cornwall? Hopefully that will help to address the issue that GreenCoat often makes regarding the lack of depth.

Re: Colgate 2011-12

Yeah, those last four road losses have been hard to swallow. Great posts by SLU, QPac, and fellow 'gate fans. (Excellent analysis, Gaterrooter.) I hate to remember all the second-half swoons we've endured in the past. To the guys on the team: don't lose heart! Compete hard, listen to the coaches, and let your talent shine -- results will take care of themselves.

Everyone, please put a daily reminder on your calendar to vote for Austin --> http://www.hobeybakeraward.com/page/show/441246-vote-for-hobey

Amen Gotter. Hopefully some home cooking will get the guys out of this funk.

Re: Colgate 2011-12

I am guardedly optimistic (yes, The Coat said optimism) about both the quality and depth of next year's incoming class...as you know we graduate a high number of seniors this year and it would appear some of these kids are relatively ready to step right in...next weekend, do what we do best: take care of business in our own zone and control the puck in the offensive zone...we're not going to win many 6-4 games so let's get back to winning those 3-1 and 3-2 games...one good sign from Q-Pac (and there weren't many) I thought Bartliff had a extra step and was taking it to the net...we need more of the latter...

Re: Colgate 2011-12

Well, back home for three of four crucial games. Obviously we need some secondary scoring, we will have the last change so our opponents won't be able to put their best pairings against our first line.(like last four games) Should make a huge difference , looking for Bartliff and Lidgett to contribute in the scoring. Harvard is a good team and we need to beat them. Would be a confidence booster, and a sweep would give us needed momentum going into our biggest weekend of the year against Cornell.
Let's get back on track.

Re: Colgate 2011-12

Well, one point is better than none, but oh-fer-3 on the PP is no way to play against one of the worst PK teams in the country. Also the secondary scoring wasn't there,...again. We were outfaceoffed by a huge margin; if we had controlled merely 50% maybe we put some quick ones on net. Four posts - how unlucky can you get? From GR's broadcast it was apparent we're really pressing - especially the top line. Really need to have some other guys step up. We can't win this thing on the backs of three players.

Re: Colgate 2011-12

ColSkate65...share your concerns but no question effort was there tonight, especially in third period where we outshot them 16-1...Smith - Wagner - Wilson line again dominant...not only are they very talented, but they are not by any means perimeter players...Firman hit two posts as well...PK did look awful on computer feed...overall definitely deserved a "W" but, again, no secondary scoring (as usual) really puts almost too much pressure on line #1...will they have any legs left tomorrow...Union and Cornell getting some separation (seems like Cornell never loses a one-goal game), but a win tomorrow crucial as we play Union and Cornell twice (and Yale who we haven't beat in Hamilton in a long time)...

Re: Colgate 2011-12

The Good:
-The losing streak ends
-We earn a point in the standings
-We didn't have a 2nd-period meltdown
-For the most part, we looked like the better team
-Austin Smith notches goal #23

The Bad:
-The winless slide continues
-Harvard now owns a head-to-head tiebreaker over us
-Once again, it's the Smith-Wagner-Wilson line that does the scoring
-0fer on the power play
-Taking a penalty then giving up a PPG in the final minute of the 1st

It should be noted that there wasn't a lack of effort. We actually hit the post FOUR times and had what looked like a game-winning goal with 22 seconds left in the 3rd waived off. That said, just keep your foot on the accelerator. A win vs. Dartmouth tonight is crucial as it will give us momentum into the Cornell series...

Re: Colgate 2011-12

Overall we played pretty well last night. The post saved Harvard several times and we had them on their heels the whole third period outshooting them 16-1. No secondary scoring but Firman plated a great game(post twice) and the effort was there.

Every time Smith had the puck it seemed like 4-5 guys converged on him, glad he scored. Bourdon was shooting from everywhere on the ice, he's due. Good comeback being down 2-1 in the third. Need a win tonight against a Dartmouth team that took Cornell to overtime.

Re: Colgate 2011-12

what can you say...we finally get some second tier scoring, yet give up the first goal with 30 seconds left in period #1, two goal within 90 seconds after start of period #3...d-men standing around, leaving Evin totally exposed...I give Dartmouth credit after losing in ot at Lynah last night...they could've packed it in after second period...we'll see what this team is made of next week and in the weeks ahead...it's hard to be optimistic at this point...home ice, 4-1, needing a win and LOSING says it all...

Good 1st period, Great 2nd, but atrocious, ATROCIOUS 3rd. We lead 4-1 and get zero, yes ZERO, points to show for it. This was the 2nd coming of the home loss to Yale back on Jan. 24 2009.

My confidence has been completely shattered. Gonna go drink some rum right now and hope I can erase this memory. Don't know what was worse. Tonight, the 2009 Yale fiasco, or the 2011 Red Sox collapse...
