Re: Colgate 2011-12

Hadn't heard anything of it 'Gate Radio. Nice to hear, better to see. Hope it's not a band-aid fix as the entire Reid Athletic Center could use help, but it sounds like it is only the rink??? We've waited this long, would rather it be done right and last the long haul. Would love to see artist/architect renderings/drawings. Guess this is what 300 wins finally gets you ;) Keep us posted GR.

Great fall weekend - absolutely beautiful afternoon at Andy Kerr. Congrats to the team on doing what the hockey team did last year, ending on a high note. Better luck next season - schedule is daunting for the first 5 weeks.

Awesome Austin...what else is there to say. Great that Colgate has him. Hard to believe we were in 12th place a year ago. Attendance Saturday was quiet and uninspiring. Shameful.

Go 'Gate!

Re: Colgate 2011-12

There was a slideshow done at Silver Puck last night that included artist's renderings of what the new building will look like - biggest plus is a complete seating bowl surrounding the playing surface as opposed to the horse shoe configuration of Starr Rink. The new barn will go behind where the Reid Athletic Center is now - basically where the Buildings and Grounds buildings are located.

From the slideshow and Coach Vaughan's comments, the facility will hold around 2000 for hockey and have locker room facilities for both men's and women's soccer and men's and women's lacrosse teams in addition of course to the hockey locker rooms.

Fundraising is underway and from what was said, it's off to a good start.

Re: Colgate 2011-12

Not very large(around 2000) It's the same architects that developed Agganis(BU) they said last year. Why are they starting the fundraising now, what HAVE they been doing for the last 3-4 years ? Happy to get "some" news on it.

Smith is the leading goal scorer in the country with fifteen, also leads with four shorties. One point behind in total points also. Jumped one spot to sixteenth in the nation on USCHO's poll, fourteenth in INCH's power rankings.

Smith is having a brilliant season for sure. In terms of rankings, even more importantly, we're 14th in PWR, which is slowly starting to matter more and make more sense.

BOT officially approved fundraising in October. From what was said Saturday night, almost 1/3 of the money has already been raised.

Re: Colgate 2011-12

Ranked #15 in USA today's poll. GR is that one third of the total cost, or one third of the remainder of what is needed. Last year I was told they were five million short of the fourty million est. cost ? What is BOT ?

Re: Colgate 2011-12

Was wondering what they would do with the old rink and where the team would play. Never thought they would build a new building without demolishing the old. Can't get over those lackluster trophy cases in the lobby...shoved up against a wall, lopsided, no lighting...a.k.a. no pride and just sad to see. Anticipated start/completion date? Maybe we won't need to wait to see an immediate impact with recruiting with a new rink coming to town.

Re: Colgate 2011-12

It was not said what will happen to Starr Rink once the new facility is completed. As for the the fundraising efforts being one-third of the way there, I would guess that one-third of the total funds needed have been raised. Actual numbers, I have no idea.

Great to hear about a new facility, but....geez....IMHO 2000 is a bit small, when you fugure this has to last many, many years and who knows what hockey will draw in the future (especially if we are ranked every year and start pulling in fans from the Utica/Syracuse area + locals). I would have thought something closer to 2500-3000 better for us. I do like the BU Agganis rink as a template.

Re: Colgate 2011-12

2300 is plenty to create a buzz for tickets and the sell out possibility. Need a crazy student section that is sadly missing from Starr. Please distribute a video of the Cornell students to all Gate students now that football has ended.

Like the Smith Wilson Wagner line nicknamed the SWWag line.

Re: Colgate 2011-12

I hope at least 2500 or 27-2800. We used to get 3000 at the pre 1990 Starr(Clarkson Harvard Cornell and playoffs).

Ah!...I remember it well back in the day. Games lasted three hours, pucks could be frozen against the boards for minutes, fights were an every game occurance, stands were full of (drunk) students, liquor was allowed into rink, etc. Things have changed,... not all for the better :(

Happy T'giving to all!
