Re: Colgate 2011-12

Austin Rules...
This team is playing with a lot of confidence...
Colgate undergraduate support for their hockey team is a disgrace...

Re: Colgate 2011-12

Greencoat - on the undergraduate support were you at the game or judging by the reported attendance?

Re: Colgate 2011-12

Watched the game online tonight. All I can say is, WOW. We killed off two 5x3's and went down 2-1 in the 3rd only to WIN THE GAME.

It doesn't get easy tomorrow with the Saints coming in. We're WAY overdue for a W against them.

Re: Colgate 2011-12

Gate93...reported attendance was less than 1300...my comments reflect an overall assessment of support, including this year and last (and even further back)...frankly, my comments would also pertain to lack of support for football as well...frankly, I hope I'm wrong, but the evidence I see suggests otherwise...

Much as I wish you were wrong, I'd have to see that before I believed it. The team deserves more support than they get, hopefully that improves as the season moves along

Rough game tonight. Very chippy, especially in the 2nd. Can't disagree with the misconduct to Wagner, that was unnecessary. Still, lots of iffy stuff all around, very glad we picked up the win

Definitely waaaaaay overdue to beat SLU. Let's make it happen 'Gate!

Re: Colgate 2011-12

Win a game against a good opponent and still drop in the PWR. Do or die in the league this year. Took advantage when we needed to and defense held strong as well. Radio broadcast sounded like fan support - despite numbers - was very, very good?! Clarkson band was there? Nice of them to go on to Ithaca with a L :p SOG are bound to produce results - and they did. Smith kept off the scoresheet for a while but wasn't denied. Some of these freshmen are really proving themselves and will only get better! Mihalik played a good game but still makes me nervous. Great that we have 2 talented goalies who are ready on any given night.

SLU is no slouch and could easily play spoiler. They have our number like we have Clarkson's. Stay disciplined and stay out of the sin bin. Would like to keep momentum high going in to next weekend's game against Merrimack. What a coup that would be.

From 12th to 2nd, wow. Nice to have risen to the cream at the top!
Go Colgate!

Re: Colgate 2011-12

Watching the game at home sick gave me some interesting insight I maybe wouldn't have watching at Starr. Center ice vision and replays I really enjoyed.

Wagner's major WAS a major, ref said vehemently about three times to Caprio, hitting to the head, game misconduct, not disqualification. There didn't seem to be that much contact but the Clarkson player was down and on his knees for a long time after the hit. It was like so many of the NHL hits you see, Wags came across the ice and as he passed the player his shoulder seemed to graze the Clarkson players head. (or chin area). Not a very solid hit but evidently enough to cause some bell ringing.

First period was pretty even with alot of feeling out by both teams. Second period we tied it and we were taking it to them pretty well until half way thru. We hit the pipe twice. Then the penalty box parade started and Clarkson was at least one man up for close to ten minutes. It was the turning point I thought as we kept them off the board, not many good scoring chances at all. They could of changed the outcome with all the PP minutes. Starting the third we were still down for 1:43 from the major to Wags.

Killed the remainder' and looked like we would score' and they scored on a top corner shot that I thought Michalek's angle was bad. Bourdon "buried" a rebound where Karpowich had no chance on. Then Smith took over on a two on one and the open netter sealed it as Colgate kept Clarkson in their own end for about a minute.

Good win, players looked very calm after Clarkson went ahead five minutes into the third, I was nervous. In retrospect, if not for the ten minutes of penalty kill in the second half of the second period, I think we win easily. Team looks confidant, Smith is by far playing his best hockey of his career, pk is doing a great job, PP near twenty per cent, last year we were so close, this year we're doin it.

Evin tonight ? He now "Leads the Nation" in save percentage. Gotta beat "The Larries " tonight and get ready for Merrimack who were upset last night.

Re: Colgate 2011-12

Good analysis by Shabby...Mihalik OK, although first goal somewhat soft and, yes, he looked too tight to the right post on the second...don't want to jinx team, but playing much more aggressive, confident hockey...good team speed is certainly helping, but the entire mentality is different from last year...Wilson playing better and better and Firman's playing best hockey of his career...we owe SLU and Cornell - winless against former in eight, lousy vs Big Red for several years...Evin probably tonight...go 'Gate...

We definitely agree about this, just so my point is clear. Wagner should not have done that, completely unnecessary, the penalty was well-deserved

Mihalik wasn't great on those goals, but the defense had given both shooters a lot of space, and the second was a pretty good shot too. Offense (and Austin) pulled it out in the end though. Karpowich had a good night, we certainly needed those PPs

Re: Colgate 2011-12

Shabby stole my thunder with his expert analysis of the game...ha-ha!

I was sitting two rows back and saw all four of our goals. Bourdon's was a real lazer that Karp had no chance on. As pretty as Bourdon's and Wagner's goals were, to me the goal of the night was Austin's ENG. He beat his man in a footrace to the end boards, then did a couple of digs at the puck, which was over the goal line and really to the right side of the net, before bringing it back & nudging it in. Great determination on his part. His breakaway was also a thing of beauty.

Very exciting game to watch; some physical stuff in the 2nd but we were able to hold them off with our PK, and the PP was 2 for 6. What a difference a year makes, huh? Team is playing with confidence and their entire game looks so much improved. Gotta knock off the Larries tonite.

The Clarkson band was there (unfortunately) making too much noise. We've got to get the Colgate Symphony or something to combat these visitor bands..the Pep Band is good but overshadowed. Thought the attendance was pretty good last nite, partially due to the traveling Clarkson fans. Lotta locals turned out IMHO.

Re: Colgate 2011-12

So many playing their career bests !!! Also....Mayer is playing better and better, takes alot of key faceoffs, great speed and four PP goals !!

Re: Colgate 2011-12

The bad: we were very, VERY sloppy in the 2nd period.

The good: 4-point weekend :D

The very good: We **FINALLY** end an 8-game losing skid against the Saints. Too bad Merrimack got swept by Providence, which means we won't be hosting the #1 team (d*** you Nate Leaman  )

Re: Colgate 2011-12

agree...sloppy, sloppy second, but Smith and Wagner are simply playing at a different level...speed and skill...please, no serious injuries and return of Bartliff to get second line moving would be a great Christmas present...Mayer-Firman-Prockow very solid...go 'Gate...

Re: Colgate 2011-12

Good hockey day

Got to see the Isles win in Dallas, then came back to see us having stomped the Saints. Feels good to get that monkey off the back, and feels even better to be sitting 1 point out of 1st after another 4-point weekend

Bring on the Mack!

Re: Colgate 2011-12

Not since 2005/2006 has Colgate won 5 in a row (when they did it twice). In their first 5 game streak they outscored their opponents 23-6. These past 5 games have been 21-7.

When was the last time we won 6 in a row ??
