Re: Colgate 2011-12

Austin Smith 3, Quinnipiac 1. Coincidentally, the last time we defeated the Bobcats, #9 had a hat trick. That, everyone, was in Game 2 of the 2009 ECAC First Round. We were down 4-2 with about 5 min. to go (and I remember shutting off the radio too), only for us to score twice to force OT then win it in the extra session!

That said, we won at home. Now we just gotta get the sweep tomorrow. Princeton's had our number too recently; it's payback time for the Tigers too!

I was surprised by the Princeton team that lost at Lynah 4-0 tonight. Very susceptible to the forecheck, tentative on the breakout -- not at all like the last few years. Their goalie (Bonar) played quite well until the middle of the third but they are just too thin after the first two lines and the first D pair.

Thanks for the scouting report, Kepler. Hope this holds true on Sat... :)

Re: Colgate 2011-12

Smith continues to impress, what a season so far. Great to get one win at home, no reason to expect anything less than 4 points. Go get 'em 'Gate!

Still struggling to adjust to their new coach, probably. Should make for an interesting game, especially with the quick turnaround to tomorrow afternoon

Re: Colgate 2011-12

First goal was a beautiful pass from Price at the point and Smitty just redirected a one timer into an open net. The wraparound for his second goal was something I haven't seen in awhile. Skating in wide from center ice into the corner and behind the net for the wrap, very nice. I predicted an open net goal for a hat trick in the second and low and behold !!

Both teams trapping the game was void of alot of scoring chances, Evin made the saves he should have, played well. He is third in the nation in GAA. Beat Princeton !!

Re: Colgate 2011-12

It should be noted that we played this game without Nick Prockow and Nathan Sinz, two of our "regular" guys on the ice. As a whole, there are some areas that need improvement but overall, we played well enough to win!

It should also be noted that Alex Evin got the start and made 31 saves. He's definitely fighting for some playing time and deserves another start sometime soon.

Only complaint I have here is no internet video for this afternoon. Yes, I know there's a football game, but the hockey team is doing SO much better right now...

Re: Colgate 2011-12

Also..Bartliff and Rivellini are out, if we win today we're "right there" !!

Re: Colgate 2011-12

Is it me or is it really just more fun to get your first 4 point weekend in the first homestand rather than waiting for the last? Congrats to the boys. Particularly impressive given the number of front liners who are out with injuries. Wish I could make it to Burlington next Friday - that could turn out to be a huge game come seasons end.

Re: Colgate 2011-12

Hockeyenthusiast, ask and ye shall receive. 4 point weekend.

How sweep it is :D

4-1 scoreline flatters Princeton. I listened to the game today and Colgate really outplayed the Tigers, but their goalie really kept them in it.

I listened to the 3rd and GateRadio (at least I'm assuming it was him) also said that the Tigers hit four posts on the game.

Re: Colgate 2011-12

Went to the Bucknell/Princeton doubleheader today. First time seeing the team in person. Impressions: Austin is unreal! Five goals in the two games...believe he is leading the nation in SHGs and regular goals. Next game I'm keeping my eyes only on him; he's so elusive one can miss his amazing moves, positioning, and stick work....great to see John Lidgett get his first goal; he played with a lot of passion and energy I thought...Austin Mayer and Wags played great, uptempo style....passing and overall game plan looked much improved over last year...Princeton came out in the 2nd with some physical stuff but our guys didn't back off..P'ton hit the post 5 times, but Mik was up to the task. Looking forward to the next two home games :)

Re: Colgate 2011-12

Silver Puck weekend, bobbleheads, food donations, 60's teams reunions, Bucknell game beforehand, pizza in lobby, relatively nice driving weather..what's not to like? Should be a decent tournout. Hope there will be some tickets left at the walkup window!

Not to mention the awesome Austin Smith. What is up with Colgate's attendance? :( :o 904 on Friday, 1080 on Saturday after Smith gets a natural hat-trick. The Colgate community really needs to realize what they're missing.

I know. You'd think the fans believe we only play one home game a year, and against Cornell.

Re: Colgate 2011-12

So isn't anyone going to mention that fundraising has started for a brand new rink? Probably the biggest news of the weekend.
