Re: Colgate 2011-12

Larkin was with the Italian National Team this weekend at the Euro Hockey Challenge tournament in Budapest, Hungary. Italy plays in two such tournaments before the World Championships in April. The Italians wanted Larkin to play in one of the two tournaments; the other is in February. He's not guaranteed a spot on the team come April so essentially this weekend was his try-out for the 2012 World Championships - when Italy will be playing in the top grouping with USA, Canada, Russia, etc. Glancing at the stats, Italy went 3-0 and Larkin had two assists and a +1 rating in two games. Not sure why he did not play the third game other than maybe having to hop on a plane and get back home for class on Monday.

The five-minute major for grasping the face mask (not the two-minute face masking penalty) comes with an automatic game misconduct. I believe that was new last year though the box score indicates Prockow was given a game DQ which if is correct will automatically have him sitting for the Quinnipiac game on Friday night. Harvard's Killorn was called for the exact same penalty on Friday night (no DQ though) in a scrum against Cornell and the Big Red scored two power play goals on that major. Kind of strange that two nights in a row in a scrum at Harvard just one player gets a grasping the face mask penalty - usually they come in twos. Great shot by Melissa Wade on the front page of the mild kurfuffle that basically turned the game around and was part of more than 10-straight minutes of special teams play.

My thoughts on the game will be on the blog. Also, be sure to read Brian Sullivan this week for his take on penalty parade in the second.

Re: Colgate 2011-12

thanks 'Gate Radio for, as usual, informative update...year-to-date, when I view/attend a 'Gate game the team is 0-4-0...when I have missed the game the team is 6-0-1...I will therefore tie myself up in a closet this weekend for 48 straight hours, assuring the boys a home sweep...we need it...

What's your football record this year? Maybe you can entertain yourself at Andy Kerr instead ;)

Re: Colgate 2011-12

Valley Raider...not good...understand I'm a Browns fan (for over 50 years)...I seem to actively court disappointment...

Re: Colgate 2011-12

What are the odds of goalies named "Michalek" and "Mihalik" facing each other last weekend?

Re: Colgate 2011-12

Greencoat I've lived and mostly "died" with the Browns since Jimmy Brown played. Who was the jinx in L'il Abner that always had the dark cloud over his head, something like Joe Bfptsplixzyk ?

Bartliff and Rivellini still out for the weekend and Sinz is out too(hurt vs Dartmouth) Sinz has been playing very strong too. It just doesn't get any easier.

Re: Colgate 2011-12

Shabby, I thought it couldn't get worse after "Red Right 88", "The Drive" and "The Fumble"...silly me...it has...

Ugh. Sounds like "all hands on deck" when it comes to players this weekend. We can't risk anyone getting hurt. Assuming Larkin is still out, that leaves us with 6 defensemen. As far as forwards go, on Saturday one player will be the "odd man out", but Friday with Prockow DQ'ed, that's another "all hands on deck situation" with only 12 available forwards.

Ditto. We're due for a W against the Q-cats. And Princeton has had our number too, the 2009-10 season notwithstanding. We have to take care of business at home.

Re: Colgate 2011-12

I thought Larkin would be back ??? Just assuming it was a one weekend thing.

Re: Colgate 2011-12

After the "drive" and fumble I was literally on the floor pounding the ground !!

Re: Colgate 2011-12

Promotions for Silver Puck weekend are up, according to the Colgate website:

Friday night, they're gonna randomly give away 100 Don Vaughan bobbleheads to commemorate Don getting #300. You can also get a free GA ticket with the donation of 5 non-perishable food items.

Saturday (and remember, Saturday is a 4pm faceoff), the first 450 fans will get the Vaughan bolbblehead. Still doing the free GA ticket with 5 non-perishable food items, or, you can also get a free GA ticket by wearing a mustache (real or fake).

I've got a beard, wonder if that'll count?

Re: Colgate 2011-12

Shabby...I was married between "The Drive" and "The Fumble"...accordingly, when watching game #2 I asked my new bride to literally lock me in the den during the game since the only harm I could commit was to myself (the animals remained in her charge)...sure enough, Byner, who plays the game of his life, fumbles...I stayed in the room until she thought it was safe for me to have additional contact with humans...

Re: Colgate 2011-12

And he was going in for the touchdown(almost untouched) someone grabbed his arm and stripped him. No joy in Mudville !

Re: Colgate 2011-12

Should be a fun weekend. Very much looking forward to picking up a bobble head. Silver Puck and a 60's teams reunion. Hope the team can provide fans with a sweep to cap it off.

Re: Colgate 2011-12

We don't have to have three points, but it would really be nice...it would also be nice to get a decent home advantage with some kind of crowd (although I don't know how many undergrads leave early for Thanksgiving)...I pine for the days when we had a distinct home ice advantage - maybe not Lynah - but tough anyway...Larkin being back will help...it's been a while since we've beaten Q-Pac...

Silver Puck weekend, bobbleheads, food donations, 60's teams reunions, Bucknell game beforehand, pizza in lobby, relatively nice driving weather..what's not to like? Should be a decent tournout. Hope there will be some tickets left at the walkup window! Greencoat: not satisfied with 3 pts. We need to go for 4!
