Re: Colgate 2011-12
Larkin was with the Italian National Team this weekend at the Euro Hockey Challenge tournament in Budapest, Hungary. Italy plays in two such tournaments before the World Championships in April. The Italians wanted Larkin to play in one of the two tournaments; the other is in February. He's not guaranteed a spot on the team come April so essentially this weekend was his try-out for the 2012 World Championships - when Italy will be playing in the top grouping with USA, Canada, Russia, etc. Glancing at the stats, Italy went 3-0 and Larkin had two assists and a +1 rating in two games. Not sure why he did not play the third game other than maybe having to hop on a plane and get back home for class on Monday.
The five-minute major for grasping the face mask (not the two-minute face masking penalty) comes with an automatic game misconduct. I believe that was new last year though the box score indicates Prockow was given a game DQ which if is correct will automatically have him sitting for the Quinnipiac game on Friday night. Harvard's Killorn was called for the exact same penalty on Friday night (no DQ though) in a scrum against Cornell and the Big Red scored two power play goals on that major. Kind of strange that two nights in a row in a scrum at Harvard just one player gets a grasping the face mask penalty - usually they come in twos. Great shot by Melissa Wade on the front page of the mild kurfuffle that basically turned the game around and was part of more than 10-straight minutes of special teams play.
My thoughts on the game will be on the blog. Also, be sure to read Brian Sullivan this week for his take on penalty parade in the second.
