Re: Colgate 2010-11

Bump.

Anyone traveling to Yale/Brown this weekend, watch the driving. Blizzzard conditions here in Central NY.:(

GO 'GATE!

Re: Colgate 2010-11

Gonna miss this weekend's games, but whatever the results, I'm hoping to finish above Harvard in the standings. Just something about being able to say we weren't last...

LET'S GO 'GATE!

Not going to New Haven tonight, but I will be at tomorrow night's game. Also hoping to make next weekend's playoff games if they draw Quinnipiac, Dartmouth, or RPI.

Go 'Gate!

Re: Colgate 2010-11

Amazing game by the guys. A total team effort. We hung in there at the end of the third period to go to OT. Mihalik was out of his gord in goal. Gotta be his best game of the season. He stones Kearney one-on-one and really made it possible for us to tie the #3 team in the country...and get one pt. Unfortunately Havard also won. We have to hope for a win against Bruno and a Haavad loss tomorrow night..

Re: Colgate 2010-11

went to game with a good Yale friend (great seats on Yale side)...he's a little stunned by our record after watching tonight...second ColSkate65...great team effort and Mihalik was solid and looks very comfortable between the pipes...Wagner looking better and better...again, wish for more scoring depth but game was pretty even and getting a tie at Ingalls no mean feat since they were 15-0 at home prior to tonight...

And unfortunately we're finishing 12th :( :( the reason for this is that Harvard would win the "total wins" tiebreaker against us.

Right now Cornell, Princeton, or RPI are our possible playoff opponents. I'm hoping we draw RPI so I can at least see one of the games in person but that would require a (1) RPI win, Cornell win, and Princeton loss or (2) RPI win, Princeton win, and Cornell loss.

I'll be going to tomorrow night's game. Here's hoping we can keep the positive momentum going!

Re: Colgate 2010-11

Harvard has the tiebreaker based on more league wins even if Colgate triumphs on Saturday night at Brown. The Raiders are locked into the number 12 seed though the team can still tie Harvard for 11th place.

Re: Colgate 2010-11

Tying Harvard for 11th still sounds better than finishing 12th! I'd say 'Gate has played Yale better than most at Ingalls as of late! Would also argue that noone really wants to play us right now. We're definitely showing more talent than most 12th place teams in any league. It is also a promising way to end a difficult season.

What else is there to say other than congrats on a great, great game. We kept the #3 Bulldogs off the scoreboard for 2+ periods and stiffed them on the pp. The atmosphere tonight at the Whale against Cornell will be electrifying...and all that red, white and blue skating around lol. Already anxious for next season but will keep fingers crossed through the playoffs in the meantime.

So, will Yale threepeat or will Union win its first outright RS Title?

Here's to a slow season start...but a strong finish!
Go 'Gate!
Beat Brown!

Re: Colgate 2010-11

Listened last night, you gotta be happy ! Dekanich(I mean Michalik) stole a point for us, as Colskate said, "Stoned Kearney on a partial breakaway late in the third. He sounded phenominal, Congrats to Mayer, he's been playing his best hockey too. Great effort...WTH is happening 4-1-1 in our last six. As I said last week, we have a" new found confidence" at the right time. Bring on Bruno !!

Re: Colgate 2010-11

Second the previous posts. Mayer and Wagner are really playing great and Wags is showing AHL-type moves and hits - just what we thought in the pre-season. Here's hoping he can become another Andy McDonald over the next 3 yrs.....well, sort of like Andy :)

It's interesting that Yale had not had a tie before last night, and doing this at the Whale is a great accomplishment. Hope we can just keep the mo going vs. Bruno, and not have a letdown. Right now it appears there is very little difference between the 11th/12th place team and the first in ECAC. Arguably our two best games of the season have come against Yale. Keep it goin' guys!

Re: Colgate 2010-11

I think what's important here, especially if we hope to have any success in play-offs, is that the game was pretty even. Mihalik played very well, but Rondeau was forced to play well at the other end. Quality scoring chances favored Yale, but NOT by that much...much better on-ice decisions and much better disciplined play in own end...even the PP looked good at times...we still face some long-term issues, but for the moment we can all hope (without being foolishly optimistic)...

Re: Colgate 2010-11

Was at the game tonight. Thought this was the one "bad game" we had to get out of our system. Giving up 40+ shots two nights in a row is not going to get us 2 wins. That said, Mihalik was still standing tall in net tonight. Nasca's goal was highlight material. Jack McNamara dumped the puck into the offensive zone where McCann made a centering pass -- where Nasca was streaking into the zone. He found the puck and beat the goaltender before he could react to it. I was standing in the endzone standing room section of the rink and saw it up close. As an added bonus, the puck hit the back of the twine.

Glad to see we drew RPI next weekend -- that means I'll (hopefully) get to at least one of the games in person! Hopefully the band makes the trip too!

Re: Colgate 2010-11

I hate looking at it this way, but given our season RPI is easily the most favorable matchup. Smelling another series like Quinnipiac 2 years ago with the tight OT games

Finishing in last sucks. Let's make something of this season while the going's still good. I'd definitely take 2 straight weekends in the Capital District...

Re: Colgate 2010-11

I wonder if Brown alums can relate to this over a decade ago: our women's swin team wins Patriot League, our winter men's sports teams go 14-46-3...sound familiar folks, a sad irony...

Re: Colgate 2010-11

Last night...UGH! Was this game a microcosm of our season or what? Some good play (RPI, Dartmouth, Yale), more horrible play (Cornell, Brown, SLU), and some pretty good goaltending (half the season).

Hopefully we can put this season in the rearview mirror and start anew at RPI. I'm worried that the body of season's work will affect this team when the rubber meets the road; the confidence factor will play a huge part. We need to capture the lightning in the bottle which was our record in February (minus Brown). If we can come out and play like we did at the Whale, anything's possible.:)

Re: Colgate 2010-11

Playing from behind [Brown] is never easy, especially this year. Not scoring on 3 straight power plays and taking numerous and inopportune penalties...it was a recipe for a frustrating loss. Congrats to Brown on the weekend sweep...even they defeated Cornell which is something we haven't managed to do in what feels like a century.

I'm happy for the team that they have a short ride down Rt. 20 which is more than Harvard can say. If I thought we could string together 2 complete games, I'd have more confidence. If I thought we could stay out of the box, I'd have even more confidence. If I thought we could score on the pp...I'd punch our ticket to AC.

This is the season we've all been waiting for, and that's a good mentality to have. Forget past records yet respect your opponent. Hope the band and some fans can make it to HFH.

If we keep Polacek in check again, we just might have a chance.

Re: Colgate 2010-11

I'm happy that we are playing RPI(rather Cornell or Princeton). We don't win at Lynah and Princeton's too far away. Planning on the trip Friday night, we played well both times against RPI. Two 2-1 OT games and we outshot them both games, I know that doesn't mean much, but it means something.

We are starting a new season and our turnaround started with our victory over RPI. The boys are playing "with a new found confidence" now they know that they can win. We have found our goaltender, I like our chances !!!

I wouldn't want to play us right now !
