Re: Colgate 2010-11

I'm going to Utica Saturday night. Big game against Elmira with 4000 fans(and Labatt's). It's fun and their playoffs start next week, they are ranked #3 in the East and have a great shot at the NCAA tourny. Those playoff games could be in Utica also. Like the old days.

Ah, the good old days of Clinton Comets/Utica Devils hockey! Spent some great nights at the Aud.... Looks like I might make it tonight if my car holds up over all these potholes and frost heaves.:)

Re: Colgate 2010-11

Brian Sullivan is once again picking us to lose both games this weekend. He has done this every week except for Week 1. I guess he has no love for us? And don't forget he picked us to finish 2nd back in October. Hopefully we can prove him wrong.

Re: Colgate 2010-11

Colgate hangs on after letting Dartmouth back in and seals it with an ENG. Way to go, boys!

Re: Colgate 2010-11

Some lucky bounces in the early going for the lead, but I figure we've earned that so far this year

Too many penalties allowed Dartmouth to keep pressure and get back in it

Good for Brisebois getting pair, really nice redirect for the game-winner

Tomorrow night is absolutely winnable, especially if Harvard shot their load in Ithaca. Let's see the seniors out with a bang :)

Re: Colgate 2010-11

WOW!!!

Twice in the last 3 games we've pulled out a victory over a ranked opponent. And this all came with Austin Smith as a healthy scratch. It doesn't get easier tomorrow though -- Harvard just beat Ithaca State on their home ice.

BTW, where was the pep band tonight????? That really disappoints me. Hopefully they'll be present tomorrow being Senior Night (the band always recognizes their seniors at the last home regular season hockey game).

Re: Colgate 2010-11

I think the fact that we've won 3 of the last 4 is more notable. Also, who would have thought that Colgate and Harvard would be the 2 teams shooting for the sweep this weekend?

Just got my own question answered by a current member: apparently they were too busy drinking that they were unable to play instruments but showed up to the game -- instead focusing all their attention on heckling the Dartmouth goalie.

Re: Colgate 2010-11

Good stuff ! Last night we got a couple of breaks(about time) and beat a very good Dartmouth team. To me, they seem to be playing with a new found confidence, they weren't so hesitant in making their decisions.

Michalik was outstanding...saved our bacon with a highlight reel save on a partial breakaway as the second period expired ! He was good all night.

Brisebois tremendous, Price awesome, Bartliff and Mayer maybe best games. Price is our best defenseman by far, great move on point to set up a goal. Three wins in last four ECAC, I'll take it.

Agreed, that Clarkson win looks huge, just a big boost to their confidence

I also agree with Price, probably the most dynamic defenseman on the team, or at least was last night

Ditto to everything Sabby posted. The team really looked energized last night and their passing was on the mark. Stilll trouble getting the puck out of our zone, but some good offensive plays and Bartliff, Brisebois, Mayer played great games. Michalik stood on his head in goal. Two for 4 on the PP is more like it; also PK looked beter - killed 5 of 6! If we can play this well against ranked teams, what might we do in the playoffs? Hope we get the win over Haavad and push on to Yale with momentum.

The Pep band seemed to have had only their drum at the game, but that, together with a vocal bunch of students, did lend some urgency to the play. Hopefully we have a full barn for Sr. Nite. These guys deserve to go out in style despite the unfortunate record this season. I believe they were freshmen when we made the q-finals in Albany

Re: Colgate 2010-11

Again, strong first 20 minutes...two cheap goals??? Well we deserve a few and "good things happen when you throw the puck at the net"...Price showing much more confidence and has been best D-man on team...Smith a healthy scratch is interesting, but if that what DV feels he has to do, so be it...will be interested if our sometimes self-involved student body can get their spoiled fannies down to Starr tonight to give these kids some support (maybe the ultimate frisbee tournaments have been postponed)...Mihalik looking better, but the one kid who has really improved year-in and year-out has been Brisbois...from, I think, one goal in his freshman year he is now our most skilled forward and with his speed and improved play in own end, he's the offensive MVP...he will be very much missed, both for his skill and his passion...hoping Austin comes back tonight and scores a hat trick...

Re: Colgate 2010-11

I don't know why more RPI posters aren't in here, but thank you for beating Dartmouth, as it helps us out in the PairWise. We will do our best to ensure your contribution does not go in vain. All the best of luck to you guys in the final three games.

Re: Colgate 2010-11

Rumor I heard was Smith was disciplined for some comment he made on the Gate paper ???

Re: Colgate 2010-11

Agree with the Greengoat - with the win last night maybe we'll get more than 880 to watch tonight.

Re: Colgate 2010-11

What happened on Dartmouth's first goal? Sounded like Mihalek was behind the net again?

If it's the one I'm thinking of, Dartmouth took a shot, it squeezed through and trickled behind him, a Dartmouth guy jumped on it for the goal

He wasn't behind the net for any of last night's goals

Re: Colgate 2010-11

From the Dartmouth game recap since I didn't have a great look at it from the opposite end of the ice.

The Big Green finally got one back late in the frame as Dartmouth started coming alive. Dustin Walsh (Shannonville, Ont.) stripped the puck at center ice and skated down, putting a shot on netminder Eric Mihalik that was blocked back out front. Matt Lindblad (Winnetka, Ill.) chipped the puck over to Walsh to the right side of the net as he put it around the post behind Mihalik.

When the play ended, Mihalik appeared to be to the right of the goal crease almost below the goal line.

Re: Colgate 2010-11

Slightly off topic, but gotta give kudos to Gate Radio for his Blog, and also great play-by-play this season. Enjoy keeping up with the Blog and analysis of the games and teams. Depending on GR tonight for his broadcast, since there are blizzard condiions in Central NY. I don't do Rte 20 in this stuff :) Wish I were there!

Re: Colgate 2010-11

Smith made a pretty tame comment about Campus Safety in the Maroon News after protesting the fact that he had to show up for a disciplinary hearing because of a parking ticket. That's why he's in the stands.
