Re: Colgate 2010-11

The video stream originally ended after the first period not showing either of Colgate's goals, and therefore came across as intentional and insincere. My comments were justified but now that I understand it was an error, I apologize and will leave it at that.

Still think the stats comment was a bit assuming but it's just my opinion.

Re: Colgate 2010-11

Geez, another Top 20 game this weekend in Dartmouth. It seems we are playing at least one ranked team each weekend lately, and all from ECAC. Nice to see we dropped RPI down a notch with our win, but Union is rising and just behind Yale now. And what's the deal with Merrimack? Remember when they were bottom feeders,... like a year or two ago? Their program turned around pronto. Now if we could have a transformation like that I'd be able to stomach this season a little better.

Re: Colgate 2010-11

The good news: Andy Mac had a goal and assist in last night's 3-2 Blues win over the Canucks.:)

Re: Colgate 2010-11

A well-deserved honor for Fridgen. He was the best Colgate player I ever saw.

Better than Steve Riggs even?

BTW, how can Yale be ranked above Union nationally when Union is ahead of Yale in the league?

Better than Andy McDonald even?

Yes. Physically Danny had it all -- speed, skill, great shot, toughness (you could call it chippy as he did spend a lot of time in the box as Shabby said).

Colskate -- I only go back to 1971 so I didn't see Riggs, Tom Earl, Dave Conte or anyone from the 60s or before.

Re: Colgate 2010-11

Boy ....It must be nice to be young Magoo ! Hard to compare Fridgen to MacDonald, Dan played with an edge, pretty sure he's in the top three in PIM(maybe someone can help) he wasn't big but he was a player you didn't want to tick off.

Still think little Donny Wilmot (of all places from Troy) father Prof at RPI I believe, was one of the best pound for pound.

Fridge went straight from Colgate's last game right to Hartford. A bad car accident ruined his career soon after.

It's because of non-conference games and whom they've beat or fell. Also, assuming you're talking about RPI (the index, not the school) and PWR, it has to do with who they've played and how they have done against other teams. Perhaps it would be best to read some of the Bracketology discussions for further information.

Re: Colgate 2010-11

Looks like we'll be playing Cornell, RPI or Princeton in the first round of the playoffs. Hoping RPI as we played them tough and I might go to a game there .

Re: Colgate 2010-11

College hockey was SO different back in the late 1960s and early 1970s...I missed the good teams under Kollevol, but saw Earl his last two years...he played his last two years with Dave Conte on his line and could really skate (he was one of the primary penalty-killers for the New England Whalers for many years)...back then, even very good college players were lucky to reach the highest minor hockey league (AHL) and many played in a version of the eastern league or the IHL...in his era Earl was a dominant player on two average teams and one decent (14-7-3, where we were robbed and didn't get one of the top spots for the playoffs) team. Fridgen was a hell of a player and probaby didn't get enough post-season awards because of his penalty minutes. In his last two seasons he scored 75 goals and in his junior year had 164 PIMs...nobody has ever matched Andy's combination of speed and skill...

Re: Colgate 2010-11

You going tonight Colskate ?? Haven't talked to you in awhile.

I'm hoping to. The weather looks better for travel today than tomorrow. Would like to be there for Senior Night on Sat. but also would rather see how good Dartmouith is. If my "roomate" has her way, we'll be going shopping today (ugh!), so might take a rain check and be there tomorrow. Eiher way, I'll be on the lookout for you....assume you'll be there Sat also. This is going to be my last hockey game in person until next October, I fear:(

Re: Colgate 2010-11

I'm going to Utica Saturday night. Big game against Elmira with 4000 fans(and Labatt's). It's fun and their playoffs start next week, they are ranked #3 in the East and have a great shot at the NCAA tourny. Those playoff games could be in Utica also. Like the old days.
