Re: Colgate 2010-11

great story about Guy...never rooted so hard in my life, in part because the kids really earned it tonight; they out hustled and out skated RPI and deserved the win...again, couldn't be happier...it's about time a good effort was rewarded...the basic issues haven't changed and I do believe that if we can set the ship straight such that we are playing on an even playing field things will eventually improve (but that's a discussion for another day)...keep it up 'Gate...

Re: Colgate 2010-11

Holy S**t we've won 2 in a row!!!!!

A road win, an OT win, our 1st win this season where the opponent scored first, our 1st win after trailing, our 1st win after trailing in the 3rd period...

Oh, and this is the sweet revenge after losing in OT on a penalty shot to RPI ... and Kevin McNamara scores the game-winner after committing the penalty that lead to the penalty shot loss last month...

Do I dare say symmetry at it's finest? :D :D :D

Re: Colgate 2010-11

Perhaps our worst season in hockey history yields one of the best results. Go figure! What a thrilling comeback for sure. Glad to hear our euphoric pep band in OT!

Would be happy with a 2pt weekend on the road against such talented teams...just keep it respectable against Union. Hopefully our defense can hold the fort again while we're in the sin bin or else that box will get the best of us.

Congrats, 'Gate!

Re: Colgate 2010-11

Looks like exactly what happened the first game against them except we won !! 1-1 into OT and we outshoot them. Great win !!! Curious...was this our first win over a top ten team since we knocked off #1 Cornell in 2003 ?

Kurt Brown was my first great Gate goalie...mid 60's !! Mike Jukowski(mover) maybe the best skating defenseman, Foley Johnson Spadafora(bazooka lol) a great line.

Listened to the game on RPI radio. Their announcers felt the key was RPI going 0-6 on the PP - sound familiar?

We've done pretty well at RPI during Don's tenure -- Slater had all kinds of trouble there.

Speaking of goaltenders, we had a guy named Gagnon who wasn't bad...

Re: Colgate 2010-11

the goalies I really felt sorry for played from the early to the late 70s...Geoff McMullen, etc...saw more rubber than Akron, OH on the average night...

Re: Colgate 2010-11

Your team played hard last night and got what they deserved. I know there has been alot of negatives for gate this year but they didn`t look like quitters last night.Congrats on the win.

Re: Colgate 2010-11

regarding Yale game in late 2009...Yale was ranked #7 or #8, but they had clinched the regular season title the day (or two) before against Cornell so, in all honesty, it lacks some importance...saw Cornell was outshot by a 4-1 margin last night and with Yale losing to SLU (only 1400 in attendance at Appleton), Union is now in first place...

Don't forget von Zuben & Clark Torell. How about the Riggs, Meehan, Wilmot, Edgerly lines? And Casey Knobel wasn't too shabby in goal either :)

Re: Colgate 2010-11

Congrats on the win last night guys - Colgate outplayed RPI in pretty much every facet of the game. I don't know where our team was (as somebody in the stands near me said, "Is the entire team on Xanax tonight?") but they spent way too much time standing around, watching Colgate play hockey.

Your team has not been as bad as their record would say - it looks like you're finally getting some of the results to go with the effort.

Re: Colgate 2010-11

We (Union) were life and death to win at Starr and now Colgate seems to be playing the way everyone expected going into the season. I think this is going to be a tough, tough game tonight.

Re: Colgate 2010-11

Union is a great team, probably the best in the league right now.

But I just want to spit out this interesting stat. The last time we won the Friday game in this road trip (2005-2006), we went on to sweep the weekend. Now, I doubt it will happen tonight, given our recent troubles at Messachilles and Union's depth and talent. I'll be happy with a strong effort and close game.

Re: Colgate 2010-11

Some articles from the Capital District. Don Vaughan sums it up well: "We've lost 11 or 12 one-goal games; we needed this more than they did."

Great boost for the team, coaches, and fans, but this is a different day. Stay out of the box and shoot the puck. Give Mihalek some help on D.

And a prayer or two wouldn't hurt :-)

Go 'Gate!
Keep the win streak going!

Re: Colgate 2010-11

This years attendance figures have been inaccurate for Appleton. They stopped counting student admisions to the games as they are free and don't require a ticket. The arena was nearly full (which full is set at 3000) and has been for most every game this year.

Re: Colgate 2010-11

Ithaca State defeats RPI this afternoon in OT. Let's make a clean sweep of the Capital District teams by the Central NY teams :)

Magoo reporting live from Achilles/Messa/Whatever Rink -- gate 2 Union 0

Nice PPG by Larkin to make it 2-0. We needed that PPG or else we would have been 0-3 on the PP. Let's see how we do with a 2 goal lead -- haven't had many of those lately.
