Re: Colgate 2010-11

.....Sorry to see Day's scoring streak end.....Is the Tech band coming to Starr?

..

Apparently the coaches were also sorry to see his streak end. So sorry that he is sitting in the press box toknight, a healthy scratch. WOW if that does not send a message nothing will.

Our band is there.

And of coarse Clarkson is just what the doctor ordered. Final 4-2 COLGATE WINS COLGATE WINS COLGATE WINS ;) .

Re: Colgate 2010-11

Well THIS straw ain't sad to grasp, GreenCoat!
First win since 12/4/10 ;-)

THANK YOU CLARKSON!
MI CASA ES SU CASA

ONE!
WE WANT TWO!
Look out Capital District!!!

Re: Colgate 2010-11

TchrBill...I'm as emotionally invested in this team as anybody I know...I feel great for DV and the kids and thank God we won...I'll leave it at that my friend...

Re: Colgate 2010-11

Looked like it would get a bit dicey at the end there with the extra goal, but a great play from Firman put it away

Plenty to not like, starting with the PP. Tons of opportunities, should not have been that close

They played physical tonight, especially early, nice to see. Shouldn't look too much into this one

Hopefully that's the break they need. Start the streak next week...

Re: Colgate 2010-11

:D :D :D

That is all. Yeah there are some things that could use some improvement but hey -- the donut has been erased.

Re: Colgate 2010-11

Congratulations on your first ECAC victory this year! I (along with probably a few other RPI fans) are very happy you did it against Clarkson.

Hopefully you guys will pull one out against Union next week (but only 2 points, of course; we want the other 2 ;)).

Re: Colgate 2010-11

Brisebois game winner was sweet. What the hell happened on Clarkson's first goal ??

On Clarkson's 1st goal, Mihalik went to play the puck behind the net but mishandled it -- he just left it there thinking one of his teammates would play it. Instead, a Clarkson player got to it first and was able to put the puck in the net before Mihalik got back to the crease -- a wraparound goal with a wide open cage to shoot at. This is not the first time he's made a mistake like this: a similar event happened in the Union game this year and that proved to be the difference in that 2-1 loss.

Other mumbo jumbo that needs improvement: the power play. Yeah, we got a PPG but couldn't score when we had 1:49 of 5x3 in the first. It looked like we were giving all the momentum to the Golden Knights but then we scored to make it 1-0, and that deflated them.

Re: Colgate 2010-11

I agree w/u GreenCoat...just made the comment out of jubilation, not a jab at ya. I have shared your sentiments about the program for years.

Felt like we were trying hard to find a way to lose this one in the end. Periods 1 & 2 sounded like great pressure despite a lack of success on 5x3 (not scoring there is like the equivalent of giving up a SHG, a cardinal sin!). Have NEVER liked the wacky play of the goalie leaving his cage unless he's charging at a breakaway!

We played Union and Yale tough this year and some lesser teams (SLU, Harvard) not so much...next weekend I just hope we can keep it respectable. I think it starts with shooting the puck like we did last night and...

...staying out of that friggin' box we seem to love WAY too much, esp. in the 3rd!

Go 'Gate!

Re: Colgate 2010-11

PP is still very frustrating...puck movement at times is way too slow (Mr. Larkin) and we've got to create much better shooting lanes, especially from high slot...will say this: first period was probably best period of year...puck support very good throughout much of game...SOMEBODY'S got to school Mihalik outside his crease; other than that he looks decent...would agree if it's true that Day was a healthy scratch: DV sending a very strong message that Friday night's performance was simply not acceptable and kudos for the move...would love to grab 2 points in Capital District...

Mihalik is partially at blame, however, much like the goalie directs the D on a dump in as to what is coming behind them, the D needs to yell at the goalie so he knows what is coming when he plays the puck. Mihalik was obviously unaware of the Clarkson player coming from behind and it didn't look like anyone was trying to warn him. Also, where was the second D and centerman for sealing the net?

I thought the 3rd and 4th line played well. The 1st and 2nd line players ate up a lot of minutes on PP and PK. Perhaps DV needs to use more of the 3 & 4 players on PK to take some minutes off 1 & 2. I was truly afraid at the end because the guys on 1 & 2 looked very tired and were starting to miss assignments.

Thank God for win!

Congratulations to the team.

Re: Colgate 2010-11

If Day was a healthy scratch, I agree with GC that is sends a strong message to the team that the effort against SLU simply wasn't acceptable. It certainly seemed to work last night. Hopefully that will serve as a springboard to more wins going forward. Ideally in the next game not only will the rest of the team be sufficiently motivated but the captain back and ready to play as well.

And congratulations to Mihalik on his first collegiate win; one can only hope that it takes less time to get #2!

Re: Colgate 2010-11

Congrats to the Raiders/Coach Vaughn and their fans on the win vs Clarkson last night. Nice to see the team still playing with motivation despite a tough season thus far - good luck the rest of the way!

Re: Colgate 2010-11

Union may be the moth and Colgate the flame next week. The Dutchmen look impressive but the Red Raiders may soon be enjoying a reversion to the mean.

Re: Colgate 2010-11

Hopefully we'll be a trap game for RPI on Friday and a letdown game for Onion on Saturday.

Yay about last night :)

Re: Colgate 2010-11

I'm just gonna say this...keep an eye out for Kurtis Bartliff next year...he has quietly become quite the offensive force to reckon with, already doubling his point total from last season. He's gonna be a top line guy probably with Smith and either Wagner or Bourdon.
