Re: Colgate 2010-11

Off-topic but congratulations to Mark Murphy -- now president of the Green Bay Packers -- on a thrilling Super Bowl victory! Maybe this will create a trickle-down effect on the Colgate football and hockey programs...

We're on our way now!! :)

Congrats on the win, Colgate. Nowhere to go from here but up.

Holy cow! Gotter and Magoo post in the last week! I thought we had lost you guys. Please keep the posts coming; we need more regulars here.

Gotta agree with hockeyenthusiast about Bartliff. Think he's rounding into form and can be a force the next couple of years :)

Re: Colgate 2010-11

agree about Bartliff...was all over the ice on Saturday...improvement over last year quite obvious...that's what we need: gradual improvement, if not game-by-game, then year-by-year. Saw the plus/minus figures for team for first time in quite a while and it MAY reinforce idea that we are playing certain players too much. Question: since we've given up so many empty net goals this year I would imagine that those on the ice at end of game do receive a -1 on plus/minus (or in Harvard's case a -2) when we give up an empty-netter. If so, plus/minus numbers for Smith et al are a little misleading...

Yes. It we give up an empty-net goal, our players receive a -1 unless we were to have a player in the penalty box.

As far as line combinations go, I would keep Smith-Brisebois-Bartliff as a top line. They all got on the scoreboard last Saturday, and while Bartliff finished the game +1, both Smith and Brisebois finished +2. Also keep Rivellini-McCann-Nasca together as the 4th line. They had a lot of energy in BOTH of last weekend's games. If it ain't broke, don't fix it!

Re: Colgate 2010-11

Wagner seems somewhat snakebit over the last 10 to 12 games and it would be great to see him get a goal or two...Day - Wagner - Bourdon second line???

Sorry for fair-weathering it this season. I did see the Harvard and Dartmouth games in person. They don't look terrible, but once Evin or Bessette let in a few, the guys start looking defeated. Missing the days when Shep and Dex could save our bacon.

Re: Colgate 2010-11

Colgate's had several Goalies over the years that have stood upon their head to keep the team in the game. For me it was Jeff Cooper in the early to mid 80's.

Re: Colgate 2010-11

Coooper was actually an All-American (I think second team)...that year Terry's team was pretty bad, something like 14-18...

This discussion on goaltenders brings to mind one of Terry's many classic stories, often relayed to prospective recruits.
............Guy Lemond.

Re: Colgate 2010-11

I'll check in a second, but I think 1984 was a decent year. Even if it was 14-18, to be an All-American (1st or 2nd team) on a sub .500 team ........... "he shtood on 'iz head."

Re: Colgate 2010-11

Had a chance to look back (25 year old memories aren't always 100%)...... You're right 84/85 was 14-18; but 83/84 was a 20 win (20-14-1) season. Coop was the primary starter both of those years.

Guy Lemond ... He was just before Jeff Cooper. I wonder if the story you speak of is the memory I have of a Guy Lemond quote from an WRCU interview about his feelings for a certain North Country opponent.

The story as I recall begins with Terry's persuit of a highly regarded, and much sought after recruit from northern Quebec. A whole lot of effort went into getting this "bluechip superstar" to commit to Colgate.

After many contacts and visits to this remote area in Quebec, concerns at being the only francophone on campus was troubling this gifted player. As a result he promised to attend on one condition.....that his close friend who was a goalie, could join him. Terry's was willing to take the chance, (deep down he was overjoyed) to land this incredible talent.

That friend was Guy Lemond. The following September,...Guy and his broken english showed up in Hamiton. He turned out to be a very special player ...and legendary Red Raider.

The stories that followed, attest to the great relationship Guy had with his "very special Coach".

The superstar by the way ......was a no show.

Re: Colgate 2010-11

OK--a road win, an OT win, a win when trailing after two, a win over a Top 10 opponent. Oh yes, and a winning streak.

Good stuff. Nice to see the effort pay off.

Re: Colgate 2010-11

Sweet win tonight! Sounded like an all-around great effort - offensively and defensively - by the Raiders. Now on to Union; let's make it a 4-pt weekend.
