Colgate 2010-11

2-2 now after 2. Mihalik is keeping us in it. Union has 45 seconds left on PP to start 3rd -- need to kill it.

Re: Colgate 2010-11

Good effort against the league leaders. After nice first period Union turned the game around, but we stayed with them pretty well. If we could bottle the energy from these two games, we could come out next weekend at home and add some more points.
Nice to see us get the third goal and keep trying.

Burgie: sorry...misread the scoreboard..

Re: Colgate 2010-11

what I think is very difficult for many to accept is the large skill gap between Union and Colgate...bigger, faster, stronger and more talented...I give Nate Leaman and the entire Union program for creating a legitimate top 10 DI hockey team (RPI got by on great goaltending and, perhaps, a little luck until recently). The issue Colgate faces remains: do we want to continue to delude ourselves into believing we have a competitive DI program or will we admit there's a lot of work to be done? Yale, Union and perhaps Dartmouth the top three...again, it's not the effort by the kids...if you witnessed the last two periods of tonight's game you'd be a fool not to admit we've got a long way to go to get "back in the game."

Re: Colgate 2010-11

ColSkate65...you must've seen a different game than I did...we were absolutely dominated in the last two periods by a program that HAS gotten it right, one that apparently is not striving for mediocrity and a team I hope goes all the way...we are they doing right that we are not???

Re: Colgate 2010-11

Good first period, followed up by getting run over for the rest of the night. Mihalik sounds like he played well, too much pressure, bad defense, that's not a formula for success, even if the team isn't as good as the Dutch

Interesting that Union can be seen as a model for success, given the "pride in winning 40% of their games" from a previous Union president. Forget his name, it would seem he is no longer there. Good for them in turning the program around so clearly. I figured they would take a step back a bit with their graduation losses, but they are quite stacked for this year, and probably the future

Just got home. Agree with Greencoat -- Union wore us down. They have size, speed, and skill.

I think we have our goaltender in Mihalik.

Greencoat, if you were at the game I wish I had known. I was in Section I, which I guess was the Colgate section.

was at home Magoo, watching video feed...feel for Mihalik...e.g., on Union's second goal they just have had the puck for 30 seconds around the crease...would only fault him on one of the five allowed...hope Leaman doesn't go to somewhere like Harvard if Donato gets the boot...he (and the rest of the Union program) really deserve credit...yes, ValleyRaider they incurred pretty heavy graduation losses, but weren't content to simply add a few bodies (sound familiar?)...now in the ECAC if you stand still you're going to fall behind...I think DV knows this, but one wonders if others intimately involved with the program do...

Re: Colgate 2010-11

A two goal lead that melts away with 5 unanswered goals. Typical scenario but glad we played a hard-fought series this weekend. Hope the seniors can skate past Dartmouth or Harvard and get at least one more win at Starr.

Re: Colgate 2010-11

It was Roger Hull (Dartmouth ??) who, as Union president, endorsed the move up to DI hockey twenty some years ago. It was Roger Hull (Dartmouth??) who was the 40% guy (hard to figure). He is is gone. Union is thriving. Hopefully, Union will find a way to keep Nate Leaman, who is a top notch guy and Union's greatest ambassador. Green Coat's sentiments could not be more appreciated from the Union faithful.
Thanks!

Re: Colgate 2010-11

Sigh...wasn't expecting a win given our recent struggles in Schenectady and Union having a stellar season so far. But it is what it is. And sadly, it seals our fate as a bottom 4 team -- something we never expected would happen at the start of this season.

I'm sure every team in the league has turned heads and is aware that we may have become the team we were expected to be at the beginning of the season. Let's just keep playing smart hockey and make sure we're at our best come playoff time.

Re: Colgate 2010-11

Good game last night at Union. I thought the guys played well until Union woke up. However, some key defensive mistakes and breakdowns leading to Union's capitalizing, which good offensive teams do. As a team, the Raiders are coming around......keep coming!!!

Leaman and Appert both heading west is the scuttlebutt. Donato perhaps out as well. Maybe the shake up will help our program move forward even as it stays the same.

GC - was not watching the game; only heard it. From GR's broadcast it appeared we were skating pretty well with the Dutchmen, but admittedly there is a gap in talent, depth, size, etc. After beating RPI the night before, it was almost a forgone conclusion we were going to be worn down. Was hoping for one point. Not playing a complete 60 minutes continues to doom us. Let's hope we can play spoiler in the playoffs and maybe make some noise. After what was expected this season it would be fittting if we ousted some teams.

Re: Colgate 2010-11

Nice, incomplete video. No wonder why you show all RPI home games for free. I hope not all RPI fans are that bitter about losing. Can't wait to see your video of the Cornell game.

"If RPI scores first, they're getting a point somewhere. Statistically, it's over." Classy quote from your radio broadcast. Sorry for your ZERO point weekend and fall from the TOP 10.

Can't believe someone would post this knowing how difficult our season has been.

What about the video is incomplete? I have no issue seeing any of it, and it shows all three periods.
"If RPI scores first, they're getting a point somewhere. Statistically, it's over."
And, using the statistics coming into the game (specifically the first goal statistics) the game was over. It wasn't about classy or not classy. It was about quoting statistics.
Sorry for your ZERO point weekend and fall from the TOP 10.
Yea, the zero-point weekend does suck. I'm sorry for you getting knocked out of contention of a home playoff series. There is no doubt that the Raiders are going to be a tough draw for whomever gets them in the first round.

I just don't understand what point you're trying to make with your post.

Couple things (and I'm not trying to start a debate, just clarifying): I made a mistake and forgot to add overtime. It's up now. Commentary is provided by WRPI, which is an independent entity from RPI TV. No video of Cornell is available through RPI TV as the game was broadcast by Time Warner Cable. I didn't mean to insinuate anything about your season by posting the video. Integrating alternate radio feeds in to our broadcasts is a feature on our wishlist.

Re: Colgate 2010-11

I just watched the first period and except for a couple of lapses here and there I could watch it just fine. RHamilton, thanks for the post.
