Re: Colgate 2009-2010

I am tired of reading other posts about Starr Rink, and while it may not be of the upscale version of some other schools, we continue to attract great student athletes. If athletes choose to go to some other schools, they may not have had the qualifications needed at Gate.

Listen, the Ice surface at Starr is as good or better than many other rinks we have been at this year, and watching a game at Starr isn't all that difficult. No, it is not modern, and I agree with that issue, however, the school produces amongst the highest income per student in the country after graduation, with a graduation rate for our student athletes also amongst the highest in the country.

Not bad, for a small school in Central N.Y.

Lets get out and support the program this weekend, and win or lose, we will have had a very good season considering all the new faces. SLU is an enviable foe, and they too have had a very good season considering the turn over of players they too went through.

We cheer the players and the program on. GO Gate.

I agree with some of your sentiments. New rinks that cost money inevitably have an impact on the fans who want to watch the games. We'll have to pay higher ticket prices, higher food costs, pay for parking...as it stands now, Starr is anything but glamorous but is humble and affordable. I thought we hit it big time when we got the new scoreboard years ago, lol.

While Colgate has the nation's #1 graduation rate for athletes, it also claims to be the smallest 1-A school in the country. That - in addition to academic standards - could be a tough statistic to overcome to recruit top players. While Colgate competes admirably and has amazing student athletes, how many others chose to attend a different school over Colgate due to better facilities? We may never know. Sometimes you have to keep up with the Joneses or get left behind.

And I think we're all in agreement that we'll get out and support the program this weekend from near or far!

Good Luck Colgate

Re: Colgate 2009-2010

One schedule note for next season.

Over on the Lake State thread, it is mentioned that Colgate is going up to the Soo for Lake State's "Great Lake State" weekend sometime in mid-October. I'd imagine this would be either the weekend of the 15th/16th or 22nd/23rd. This would be the return on a trip that Lake State made to Colgate last season in early January.

Re: Colgate 2009-2010

My outlook on this weekend -

I'D RATHER LAUGH WITH THE SINNERS, THAN CRY WITH THE SAINTS !!!

GO 'GATE!!

Re: Colgate 2009-2010

All right, some even better news: the peerless prognosticators on this very forum have picked SLU in a landslide (so far)!
Can 80 extremely knowledegeable hockey fans be wrong? Or at least 42 of them?

Re: Colgate 2009-2010

All Right !!!

The school is small and in-the-country.
The name is mocked.
The rink gets no respect.
The team gets overlooked.
Other pos(t)ers pick against them. {Although 42 of 82 is no "landslide".}
The "expert" picks against them.

All the more reason form me to cheer louder !!! Go 'Gate !!!
Okay men, prove them all wrong.

Almost an omen ? ..... This weekend's series is about as close
to Friday the 13th as we could get. :) Go 'Gate !!!

Re: Colgate 2009-2010

One interesting stat to note. I was going to hang onto this one until tonight but I can lay on more specifics during the broadcast.

Colgate is unbeaten in its' last 10 postseason series at Starr Rink. The last time a team won a playoff series in Hamilton was during the 1988-89 season.

Do they even have indoor plumbing at Starr? :D

21 years is the charm. SLU in 2 low scoring games.

Re: Colgate 2009-2010

Who cares about what other posters and Mr. Sullivan (ECACHL Writer) are saying. They're entitled to their own opinions.

What I would really like to see this weekend is some aggressive and emotional playoff hockey at Starr Rink, particularly from our players. Having had a week off I'm a bit concerned about rust but we should be healthy and ready to play.

Go 'Gate !!!!!

Re: Colgate 2009-2010

Hope most of you are enjoying the tailgate at Cotterell Court. Cheer loudly and elbow the guy next to you if he isn't!

We've definitely got the goods to get the job done, but SLU is a great team no matter where they play. Love the stats at Starr and hope to make one last push for Albany!

In two or three, it just doesn't matter! Win it at home!
Go Colgate
