Re: Colgate 2009-2010

BTW, please don't take my Colgate picks personally. I think 'Gate could win any of these games, but they seem to lose steam in the 3rd, take senseless penalties in the waning moments, and blow our early leads. I have no problem being wrong and this is the weekend to prove it to me! Hope attendance is good!

Go 'Gate!
Beat Quinnipiac!
Beat Princeton!
Beat Cornell! (oh please oh please oh please)

Not taking it personally, because as far as I know we've never met; but ......
What happened to the fan that I've been reading for years ... I know you're cautious in your predictions, but it seems that sometime recently you've lost the faith.
Your "Pick the Standings" forecast was for a 6th place finish; much like the rest of the Maroon-wearers. But your 2nd & 3rd weekly picks (1st week doesn't count as it was only Hvd - Dart) would have put the team at 1-3-0. Combine that with this week's 0-3-0 prediction; that would be good for 10th or 11th place ! :(
You've got to be too intelligent to believe in superstition, picking to be wrong is no plan. Have faith and cheer from the positive. I'll predict wins (and ties when I have to) and hope for the best. Better to be wrong (in the contest) and feel good about my choices. Sometimes it works out! :D Sometimes you and the team both win, right?

Re: Colgate 2009-2010

We shot ourselves in the foot tonight a couple times to give the Bobcats some momentum. I guess it's better to lose now and learn from it rather than go undefeated in the regular season then lose in the postseason (like the 2007 Patriots). I just hope this isn't the start of another winless skid for the Raiders. Our first league loss in EACH of the past 3 seasons ('06, '07, and '08) all lead to winless skids; let's hope the team can rebound nicely tomorrow against a (somewhat) struggling Princeton team.

At least we made it a game again in the 3rd period tonight. Our streaks of scoring 3 goals a game and scoring at least 1 PPG per game are still alive. But the penalty kill is slipping. We gave up 3 PPG's tonight and can't afford to do that. Hopefully the 3rd period surge tonight carries over into tomorrow night's game (the last home game until Jan. 22  ). Hopefully there will be a great crowd too.

Re: Colgate 2009-2010

Unfortunately, 50 minutes of relatively decent hockey can't offset 10 minutes of really horrendous (and stupid) hockey, especially against a team like Quinnipiac. Why in the name of God doesn't Vaughan call a timeout after Q-pac's third goal, or after Colgate's first penalty, or after Colgate's second penalty (goal#4 soon followed)? This is a young team, notably on defense, and looked totally undisciplined for the above mentioned ten minutes. As an aside, I think some of the refs in the ECAC must have some sort of beef with McIntyre (2 slashing calls and at least one against Yale) since some of these calls look pretty non-existent. It's kind of tough to see on this streaming video, but Long looked like he didn't have a chance on the first three goals (he also had his own D-men backing into him as well). Keep scoring goals and try and improve in your own end. Nonetheless, a win against Princeton is pretty important tomorrow night with Lynah on Tuesday.

Re: Colgate 2009-2010

Two more quickies...attendance of 1001 is simply pathetic and I don't give a **** what time of year it is...these kids deserve a lot more support than this...love the Winchester thread...

Re: Colgate 2009-2010

GreenCoat is right about 10 minutes ruining an otherwise good 50 minutes. Love the spunk in trying to come back, but you can't afford to dig holes like that. Bad penalties as well, especially that Too Many Men at the very end. Killer. Only 3 losses on the year, all to ranked teams, but I'd really like one or two of them in our win column by the end of the week

Re: Colgate 2009-2010

DMac is taking too many penalties. Everyone's out to get him, and he must know that. He's got to pull in his horns and accept the cheap shots for the good of the team.

Is it me, or do we seem to take terrible penalties in the last 2-3 minutes of games..

Saw Larkin in the pre-game skate and he looked good. Maybe not ready for action yet, but his leg must be coming around.

Tigers will be frustrated tonight, and looking to take it out on us. Hopefully we can get out of the box with some urgency. This reminds me of football season where we were sleep-walking thru the first quarter. Get that expresso machine going in the locker room...

Re: Colgate 2009-2010

The first period last night wasn't necssarily the problem as Colgate actually outshot Q-Pac, 8-7, even though the 'Cats had the better of the play. The penalty on McIntyre in the first was suspect and then the goal 12 seconds later was on a pretty set-up with Davies and Wong as Wong slipped into a seem behind the defense and one-timed home a slap pass.

Colgate was in total control after its' goal in the second by Day. What swung momentum was Eric Hartzell's (the goalie) stretch pass to Jean-Marc Beaudoin that turned into a 3-on-1 and resulted in a goal. After that, Q-Pac reels off a couple of goals from scrambles in front and the team dug itself a three-goal hole. Give them credit for rallying in the third though playing with essentially three lines with Williams not on the bench might have been tiring. Definitely a great effort to get back into the game but that's the type of game where someone other than Day-McIntyre-Smith needs to step up and score since those three can't do it all every night. The balance has been there this year but last night the other three lines couldn't get going though I thought the Gold line (Corrin-Firman-Long) held its' own as usual.

Rough crowd on a Friday night though all of the marketing efforts for the weekend (i.e. ads) seem to be pointed at tonight's TV game. Chair backs were mostly full last night and there was a good portion of students in the Raider Nation but the crowd could've been better. The team has been winning (old addage that winning draws fans) so I'm not sure why people aren't coming to the games. Oh well.

Re: Colgate 2009-2010

Penalty kill cost us the game...they were three for four on the Powerplay. Colskate's ab right, I watch McIntyre and everyone gives him a lil jab with the stick after the play and he retaliates and gets caught, he must stop !!! So many momentum swings I thought. First period fairly even, first part of second we had the upper hand. All of a sudden, boom, boom, boom, and it's 4-1. Third period we played tremendous, all over them, but another dam penalty with just over 2 mins left, too many men on the ice and it was over !!

Need a win tonight tonight to get big mo back. Anyone know if the Cornell game's on Time Warner ??

Maybe Coach should bench DMac for a few Games. Yeh, Then he will learn how to not get out of hand.

I mean, after all, when all the other teams take liberty's when Ref's aren't looking on him, he should just roll over for the good of the team. Then, he will be out of the line-up shortly after he gets injured for another month or longer.
Then we will get him back just in time for the Quarter finals, which likely we wouldn't be hosting, as we would finish in the bottom four places.

Should Mac have taken that penalty while killing another penalty ? No, absolutely not, However, Listen, hockey is emotional, and if there was fighting in this league, this crap would not happen. So, when the lesser calibre of hockey players are allowed to get away with sticking from behind, especially against the more talented players in the league, and the Ref's spend more time looking at the reaction to the problem, rather than the problem itself, we will no doubt continue to have remarks like yours

We are 3-1-1, and off to a good start, and probably would have tied that game up last night if it wasn't for the Too Many Men on the Ice call with 2 Minutes left. We are not yet exceptional in our own end of play, which is understandable given the amount of new faces in the line-up.

Be patient, and leave the negativity to your own home, rather than Gates Home.

Re: Colgate 2009-2010

Way to go Raiders!!!!!

McIntyre with 4 pts on the night! Brisebois with 2 goals! Overtime win! SO happy we pulled off the split at home; we were THIS close to getting swept on the weekend.

Our penalty kill is starting to come around too, killing off FOUR Princeton power-plays in the 2nd period. AND we didn't take any penalties in the 3rd. Sadly, my web browser crashed late in the 3rd and in the time it took to reload the video, the Tigers tied it up. But the OT goal: it was the exact SAME play as Colgate's 2nd goal back in the 2nd period. McIntyre and Brisebois skate in on a 2-on-1, McIntyre with the puck. Princeton's goalie expects #26 to try and score, yet he brilliantly fakes out the goalie, then quickly passes it over to Brisebois who buries the puck while looking at a practically open net.

A few other remarks: Why did Evin start? Are we saving Long for Cornell after last night's shaky start? I've never really been confident with Evin, yet he made over 40 saves, and when a team puts that many shots on net, they're likely to score 4 goals. Also, the Time Warner broadcast said Brian Day was out with an injury. Is it anything serious? I wouldn't want Day to miss the Cornell game. On the flip side, I'm glad Larkin is back in the lineup.

Lastly: we debuted an alternate home jersey. But it was not very impressive. The design was exactly like Princeton's jerseys with a center stripe. Plus, white numbers don't match with a white jersey. Here's an idea for the home alternate in future years: The Colgate seal on the center. (This year's alt. has the seal on the shoulders.) Or a white version of "Colgate" in diagonal lettering to compliment the road one.

Lynah in 3 days! I'm guessing I'll have to purchase video from Cornell All-Access to watch it online?

Re: Colgate 2009-2010

Day and Williams were both out of the line-up tonight with injuries. No word on when either will return though there will be a week-and-a-half break between the Cornell game and the trip to Union/RPI so should they need time to recover, the pair of them will have it.

That being said, with both out of the line-up, the offense still came through with five goals, the most against the Tigers by a Colgate club since 2001. And the penalty kill, missing two of its' PK forwards, held Princeton to 1-for-6 though the Tigers had nearly 20 shots on the power play through six chances.

Evin got the start against Princeton because Long was shaky against Quinnipiac. Plus, Longer can't start every game. Evin played well and made some big saves. Three of the four Tiger goals were goal-scorers goals top shelf under the crossbar and another Evin never saw as it came through a screen and was deflected in.

In terms of the sweaters, what other color do you make the number on the back? The maroon stripes wrapped around so a maroon number would've been more hidden. A white number stood out from the maroon stripes though was slightly difficult to make out. Other than that, I thought the sweaters were sharp (BTW I'm a Red Wings fan). I suspect the regular home jersey's will be back on Jan. 22.

On a side note, another tough night at the gate, no pun intended. What needs to happen for people to come out to Starr?

Re: Colgate 2009-2010

Great win!! Our last three goals were very pretty. McIntyre's goal should be on a highlight film, simply awesome.

After two periods we were very lucky to be tied. We played shorthanded for almost half the period !! Princeton had like 22 SOG , we can't continue this, it will bite us.

McIntyre was so snakebitten, really good to see his goals, wanted him to get the natural "trick" in the third. Evin made the saves he should have and more, 47 shots on goal is way too much.

Was told Day has a mcl or acl problem and "could" be out a month, all I know. Larkin was limping badly at times and was having a real hard time "pivoting", looked like he was still hurting.

Dog...take a xanax, I was not being negative, just stating a fact. Mc can't keep taking undisciplined penalties, that's all. Look what he can do if he's on the ice, hurts us two ways when he's in the box. Last night he clearly was the best player on the ice, simply outstanding !!

Re: Colgate 2009-2010

McIntyre was the player of the game tonight. 2 goals, 1 assist, and the assist was more impressive than the goals. Great patience to wait out Reynolds and find Brisebois across the crease. Full marks to Brisebois for crashing the net both there and in the OT to get identical goals. Good thing happen when you go to the net. Evin was strong in net, but the defense broke down on a few occasions, and they turtled a little too early there, which led to the tying goal. Too many penalties, of course, and they were sloppy penalties too

But we got the win, first against a ranked opponent this year. Nothing now between us and the Big Red Menace

Re: Colgate 2009-2010

Last night was a huge win. We've had all kinds of problems with Princeton lately and it was nice to beat them and not settle for the tie. Plus we need to avoid losing streaks, as someone pointed out earlier.

As far as McIntyre goes, sure he gets special attention as all great players do and he's on the receiving end of a lot of chippy stuff. But he should not be leading the team in penalty minutes. He's a captain and he needs to show more restraint as Shabby says.

It's only 6 games in but we have to be excited with the start. Apparently we haven't played a solid 60-minute game yet but even so we're 4-1-1. But I'm not sure if we're ready to go into Cornell and win.

Who'll be in goal Tuesday night?

Re: Colgate 2009-2010

Valley Raider----Watched the third period of your game and the overtime on Time Warner while listening to the Saints on the internet. Also saw the whole game this afternoon on the replay.Great win, just would't give up and a beautiful 2 on 1 with Brisebois getting the winner. That's the way hockey should be played, of course I'm kinda partial to Donny V.Good luck Tuesday.

"Can't we all just get along." Cool it dog..

Huge win last night. That one and the Harvard game are the types of experiences that will instill beaucoup confidence in our players. Should help down the road...maybe even this Tuesday night....

Re: Colgate 2009-2010

We're finally ranked in the top 20 in USCHO's poll. Wonder how long it's been since we were ranked ??
