Re: Colgate 2009-2010

What a nervewracking 3rd period to listen to! Great 3-pt weekend on the road. Hope it continues into the next against some talented, ranked teams...could certainly help us out later on down the line in the PWR. Bit of a playoff score to settle with Quinny, and Lampe/Wong picking right up where they left off last season.

Cornell in 8 days, everyone!

Re: Colgate 2009-2010

Few things I didn't get to mention on the radio since I couldn't check my email over the weekend (long story).

There will be no television broadcast for Friday night's game between Quinnipiac and Colgate. Time Warner instead is going to be covering Saturday night's game between Colgate and Princeton because they are showing Cornell-Seton Hall hoops live on Friday night from Ithaca.

Saturday night is also the annual canned food and toy drive. Normally these are two separate drives but since there is only one home weekend at this time of the schedule, the event is being combined. There's a release up on the Colgate web site about it.

Also, Don Vaughan will be on the Colgate Coaches Show on Tuesday night. This will be the same format as the show two weeks ago with a live video/audio broadcast on All-Access plus the radio version on WKXZ. There should be two players joining us on the show as well.

Re: Colgate 2009-2010

Some observations from Yale game...Long was very, very solid, especially in his positional play and I don't think he had a real shot at any of the three goals. Yale did a good job of getting in McIntyre's face (as well as Day and Smith) and, although you can see the talent and chemistry out there, the first line had a pretty indifferent game. The Cox-Williams-Bourdon line played very well, contested every puck, and was a physical presence. Yale is very, very talented, very fast and should finish first or second in the league before it's over. They have ten (yes 10) kids on their roster from the USHL (obviously Coach Allain has strong very strong ties to the league). Maybe there's not enough room left in that league for us, but Steve Poast remains head coach of the Chicago Steel and I'd like to see at least 2 or 3 kids from the USHL (the top developmental league in the US and a notch below major-junior in Canada) on the 'Gate. Yale got away with a couple of cheap shots, hence only one power play (which, by the way, looks much better with McNamara on the ice). Yale uses an aggressive forecheck - generally two men in - but we didn't really take advantage of their aggressiveness and had only one semi-breakaway. I'll definitely take one point and hope we continue to improve. Skating against Yale with four freshmen on "D" is very tough. It appears the ECAC is very well balanced so really no "off" nights. In addition, it also means you're going to need a good home ice record (which also means some student support would be nice). Cautiously optimistic going into Princeton/Quinnipiac weekend (even 4-1-1 would be great).

Re: Colgate 2009-2010

Post #500! (And it only took me 13 months to get here ;) )

That INCH power ranking is something I wasn't expecting, but I hope it's not a curse. Then again, with my NFL team (the Patriots) literally choking last night, in a similar manner to the 'Gate-Yale game last January, it did give me something to smile about when I woke up this morning :)

Cornell in 8 days, everyone!

Wait, it's that time of the year already??? Good thing we're on a roll. Quinny and Princeton will be no pushover, but a good tune-up for Lynah.

Re: Colgate 2009-2010

Bump.

Congrats to TchrBill on winning last week's ECAC PIck 'Em. He picked the exact number of goals at 70. This guy is a brainiac!....

Congrats also to Shabby for standing in 5th place overall....:)

Re: Colgate 2009-2010

Joining me on the Coaches Show tonight will be Coach Vaughan (obviously) as well as Brian Day and Wade Poplawski.

The show is live on 94 KXZ from 7-8 (at the Colgate Inn Tap Room) and will be webcast live on Colgate All-Access. There will be an archive available if you cannot watch it live.

Re: Colgate 2009-2010

All 'Gate fans attending the Princeton game on Saturday night...........please remember to bring can foods and a toy to the game. This effort, as you probably know, is spearheaded by Ethan Cox and has been since he was a Frosh. Plus, the results will help him continue to be a candidate and win the Humanitarian Award that has eluded him the past two years. And, as always, CORNELL STILL SUCKS!!!! Here's to a great weekend of hockey. Go 'Gate!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Re: Colgate 2009-2010

Ditto to CU13!

Any new news on Larkin's condition? Didn't see him mentioned on CHN's injury report.

Re: Colgate 2009-2010

Although it's early in the season, this is a crucial trifecta weekend...3 ranked opponents in our own league within 5 days. It all comes down to taking care of business at home, staying out of the box (Price!) and shooting at the net. I'm proud of Long for standing tall in goal and finding his rhythm so early. The offense is producing goals, but what's that old saying...offense wins games, but defense wins championships?! We need to smother the blue line and block shots. What really makes me pumped is that the freshmen are making noise, too. It's great they're making an immediate impact like they tend to do for BU, Wisconsin, NoDak...

BTW, please don't take my Colgate picks personally. I think 'Gate could win any of these games, but they seem to lose steam in the 3rd, take senseless penalties in the waning moments, and blow our early leads. I have no problem being wrong and this is the weekend to prove it to me! Hope attendance is good!

Go 'Gate!
Beat Quinnipiac!
Beat Princeton!
Beat Cornell! (oh please oh please oh please)

Bill, looks like possibly winning the contest is taking a priority. Well I picked gate for all 3. ;) I,m not scared. :D
Now, Sullivan ( ECAC Writer ) has just picked us to loose all 3 games as well. I don't think he has picked us accuratly at all this year. Not surprising, as he had equally a tough time last year.

Well he picked Yale to beat UMass 5-2, and the Minutemen beat Yale 4-3 in OT. Let's see how the rest of his picks unfold

Go 'Gate! Beat Quinnipiac, Princeton, and CORNELL!

Actually, I'm a near-perfect 3-0-2 when I tab the 'Gate to win ... and 2-1-1 when I pick against them. That means I'm 5-1-3 (right-wrong-ties) when picking Colgate so far this year.

Just FYI. ;)

I'm sure you've tracked your results accurately. ;) It just seems (from this viewpoint) that you seem to underpick the Raiders. Really odd this week, when you spend so much time "highlighting their re-emergence" and then call for an 0-3-0 weekend!

In over 25 years of following the team, they're often middle of the pack; but an almost cyclical 5 yr regularity near the top. I'm hoping they're at one of those crests again.

I know, it bugged me to realize that I was picking against them three times, but as I said ... it's not that I'm trying to pick on anyone; I can only call 'em as I see 'em. I don't actually think that Colgate will go 0-3-0 this weekend, but a) I can't pick ties, there's no fun in that; b) I think that on a game-by-game look, the opposition looks stronger; and c) when was the last time anyone cared what I thought? ;)

Hey I appreciate your position, you usually speak first and then the other guys get their shots. That alone should tell you that some care what you think; silence is worse than disagreement. (Which will likely kill a reply, :D )

I like that you pick a winner/loser. My feelings on "picking a tie" has been stated before; and only do it for Colgate when I the odds are against 'em. But how can a fan pick against their team? Since you're unbiased, it's winners and losers.

No problem, call 'em as you see 'em. I'll wear my "homer" glasses and hope for continued good results. BTW; thanks for the nice write-up on the team.
