Re: Colgate 2009-2010

Long earned the starting job last year and gave the team solid goaltending down the stretch. With this being Long's senior year, and him being the go-to goalie last season, surprised to see Evin get the start last night.

Re: Colgate 2009-2010

No action on this thread in the past 4 hours? Let me be the first to say it:

1st 4-point weekend since Feb. 15-16, 2008
1st home win over Dartmouth since Jan. 2004
1st Silver Puck weekend sweep since 2004

Looking at the boxscore ... Long made 38 saves? Attendance was around 1,500? Incredible! This team has found chemistry!

Re: Colgate 2009-2010

1st 3-game winning streak since --- when? I could look it up but I'm too lazy.

PP came through in the 3rd to win the game!

Sounds like Long played well tonight but I'm not totally sold on him. But he may be the best we have.

Re: Colgate 2009-2010

Very nice win tonight giving us a sweep for the weekend and a 2 and 0 start to the ECAC season. All great except for finishing the game on a PP against like last night which is always very scary when you are ahead by only 1 and the fact we lost Larkin in the 2nd to what looked like a knee injury. Anyone have any information on the extent of the damage? I saw him helped off the ice and he was in a lot of pain. Hope it's not too bad as he's been playing great!

Good lord, I was a Freshman

Didn't see much of the games this weekend, but overall very excited. Holding serve on home ice against 2 solid teams. A good comeback on Friday and a nice tight one on Saturday afternoon. All very good. Learning experiences for the youngin's on the blueline. Too early to say yet that "it's all coming together," but it's nice to get off to a strong start in ECAC play this year

I may say more later in the week after looking at the box scores, but overall, hard to hate 2 wins :)

Re: Colgate 2009-2010

I was sitting right near where Larkin went down. Appeared to have his leg bent backward under a pile of D'mouth players. Hope he didn't sustain any huge ligament damage. He's a bright light out there.

Better up tempo game last night. Not as much sleepwalking throught the first period as on Friday. DV must have lit a fire under the troops. It helped that it was SP w/e. Frosh are contributing more than I've seen in past years, and have a good core of talent.

IMHO Long is the go-to guy in goal and has earned it. Nice play in the 3rd all-around to pressure the Green and carry the play to them. Last minute PK does fray one's nerves.

Brown isn't as bad as I thought, and will be a tough out this coming w/e.

(Shabby - thanks for not saying hello last nite.... )

Re: Colgate 2009-2010

Sorry skate...was listening to the football game and got there a lil late. Between periods it was tailgate time at the car !!!

Re: Colgate 2009-2010

I saw Brown play RPI on Sat night. They're a little short on skill but they worked their tails off. Their goaltender (Clemente) was outstanding.

Keeping my fingers crossed about Larkin.

Re: Colgate 2009-2010

Congrats to the women's soccer team...just wish the same could be said for the football team ;) Two losses against the only teams we've played with decent winning records - and ranked at that. Would like to have thrown to Simonds a bit more and have some better punts/special teams defense, but a fun season nonetheless. Congrats to the seniors and here's hoping they can win their final game at home. PL making some noise this year, which is good to see.

Nice to get the 4 points this weekend - it's been overdue! Glad they found some offense, finally broke through with special teams, and played 60 minutes, but the slow starts and lack of discipline in the waning minute(s) may catch us at some point. I doubt Harvard/Dartmouth will be our toughest opponents so we'll need to step it up. Cornell and Quinny looking sharp...but for now, we're undefeated in league play for at least a week and it's a great feeling.

Go 'Gate! Beat Bucknell!

Re: Colgate 2009-2010

This week's USCHO rankings are out ... we sweep Harvard and Dartmouth and don't even get into the "also receiving votes" category? While it would be nice to get on the bubble, I'd prefer we be underrated than overrated.

Any news on Larkin? I've got a baaaaad feeling about this ...

Re: Colgate 2009-2010

Point taken - will try to contain my non-hockey comments but think you need to loosen up

As for getting votes Rainman, we tied Army, have yet to top a ranked team, and beat 0-3 Dartmouth. The season is still young!

I'm Laughing !! Tchr Bill They are 0-3-0, because they were 0-2-0 before we played them...LOL...

I'm also in a very bad mood for the following reasons.

We just started a three game winning streak, with the last 2 to start the conference schedule against 2 pre-season favorites, which is the best start to Colgate's season in recent history without any acknowledgement.

We find the pre-weekend comments on Colgate at the bowels of most writers comments.

We have some of the most talented offensive players in the NCAA, with possibly the most complete player in the entire NCAA.

We have a coach whom has been at the helm for some 17-18 years at a school with 2800 students, which is a small school in demographics, but large in heart.

We have some awesome freshman, four of them on the blue-line.

Yet reading the hoop-la and fan-fare and rankings after this past weekend, we are no where to be seen.

I hope we kick some serious A-- this year, not only for our program, but to make the knowledgable writers look up in there Atlas, to find Hamilton N.Y.

The time is now, and this is the year. Go Gate, 2010

Re: Colgate 2009-2010

Gees...Cornell has beaten the same two teams and are third in the nation.

Re: Colgate 2009-2010

Yeah, agree. I love how Cornell is perennially ranked in October in the top 10 or top 5 with a 0-0 record. Has to be that pro-Cornell, anti-Colgate ECAC sports writer's bias...

Re: Colgate 2009-2010

Couple things as I come out of a brief weekend bout with the regular flu (not H1N1) that hit me hard after the Dartmouth game on Saturday. Thankfully as of now I'm just about back to 100%.

I spoke with the folks at Athletic Communications last night and the problem with the All-Access video (for home events) is going to be addressed (i.e. hopefully fixed) this week. The people that handle this stuff are supposedly going to iron out all the technical stuff and the video should be back to normal for the Quinnipiac/Princeton weekend prior to Thanksgiving. The issue is on our end so there's no need to upgrade your computers. But, for those of you that have Time Warner, the Quinnipiac game will be on TV.

I'm a little surprised no one has mentioned it, but congratulations to Bruce Crowley on winning this year's Silver Puck. In my brief time with Colgate, I don't think I've met anyone as quite as passionate about the school and the program as Bruce. His enthusiasm rubs off on everyone and it's a joy to have him around. I wouldn't be surprised to see him at Yale on Saturday night leading the cheers in the Colgate section amidst a sea of blue from the Yale folks.

For those not making the trip and listening online, I just recorded an interview with the ECAC Hockey commissioner Steve Hagwell. We talk about the move to Atlantic City, the current state of the league, and possible expansion/contraction among other topics. I imagine it will run on Saturday.

Re: Colgate 2009-2010

Gutcheck time....Big weekend coming as we need to beat an improving Brown squad (something we've had a hard time doing lately). We're off to an ok start but nothing short of a split this weekend will keep us up in the standings.

Looking at the schedule after next weekend no home games for two months ! Maybe we can get a crowd...will the stoogents still be here ?

Also...Smith is on pace for the 25 goals I forecast for him earlier, still don't think he gets enough press. Anyone know anything about Larkin's cond ? Big blow if we lose him !
