Coaching changes 2010 - and only coaching changes

Re: Coaching changes 2010 - and only coaching changes

It was also reported in the Fargo-Moorhead newspaper, the Fargo Forum, based on a news release from Athletic Department office of Concordia College. It was then reported in a whole host of newspapers.

Re: Coaching changes 2010 - and only coaching changes

I only posted after I read it the local paper (online edition). Was not trying to drag anyone thru the mud. Just responding what the thread title is.

Re: Coaching changes 2010 - and only coaching changes

Concordia has hired an interim.

MOORHEAD, Minn. (6/28/10)--Concordia Athletic Director Dr. Larry Papenfuss announced on Monday that Brett Bruininks will serve as the interim head women's hockey coach. Bruininks has been teaching in the Health and Physical Education Department at the college since September and was also an assistant coach for the Concordia men's hockey team during the 2009-10 season.

Re: Coaching changes 2010 - and only coaching changes

Was it really necessary to publish his wife and kids names...they didn't deserve that.:(

did you see my disclaimer at the close of the write-up:
....Story compiled from various published reports by outside newspapers.

At the same time it is public information that can be found right on the schools web site.

I did edit that portion when correcting the interim coach portion.

Interesting development...

The Email reply I received yesterday stated that the school did not wish to discuss and would update its site when the time was appropriate.

Until this release came out there was no acknowledgment on the schools site that Gregg had been relieved of his duties and replaced on a temporary basis. Also the few releases from Friday that mention a replacement stated that Joe Vannett the current assistant with the womens team would be the interim or in two cases the new head coach.

More to this story?

Re: Coaching changes 2010 - and only coaching changes

It may be public knowledge but if you acted "inappropriately" with a female counterpart and lost your job because of it, wouldn't you prefer to have the reason kept quiet and just have the school report you were relieved of your duties? I personally, and this is just my opinion, think the school acted inappropriately broadcasting to the press why he was relieved. They need to step into his shoes and see how it feels, you guys need to step into his shoes for a moment and try to imagine how it must feel. And for the record, I do not know this coach, am not familiar with the Concordia program, I just feel sorry for him and his family being dragged down this way.

I Thank You for the edit as I'm sure "Aces" entire family does as well...

And sometimes you just need to man up and take responsibility for your actions. This isn't someone who forgot to turn in his homework and milk money.

He was dismissed in the middle of the week from the MN Advanced 15 Summer Camp in Mankato(102 15 year olds in attendance), which resulted in his dismissal from Concordia :o I think it is appropriate for Concordia to mention the cause. It shows Concordia doesn't tolerate this kind of behavior. If you are parent are aware of the situation and are planning on sending your daughter to Concordia, Concordia did the right thing!

Personaly I don't have any problem with what Concordia wrote other than naming his wife and kids...I mean what good can come from that?

It's a good first post with valid points.

I am really struggling with this one. Unless the counselor he was fooling around with was a current Concordia player, I am having trouble justifying the punishment. Sure, it was in poor taste but really, if both parties were adults, it seems sort of holier than thou.

I have noticed more and more that the universities like to pretend that they are some sort of Utopia and that no bad things ever happen there or that their employees are much, much better than the general population. In my opinion, this strict denial only causes the bubble to break in a different stress point.

Actually, they did him a huge favor. Imagine the innuendo were his dismissal from the camp to pass with nary a word on why. The likely rumor mill would have churned out numerous sorted tales, the majority speculating the inappropriate behavior involved a camper.

It's impossible to judge if the punishment fit the crime unless you know the details of what happened and with whom. I highly doubt this information will ever be made public, nor should it be unless it was serious enough to warrant an arrest, which apparently was not the case. Which in turn means there is no point in speculating...

You can only hope, in the interest of fairness, that whatever he did do was serious enough to justify his dismissal.

I agree that the details do not need to be made public. His wife and children (innocent to this whole situation) have truly suffered enough.

And I'm sure that his attorney (it sound like he'll be needing one if one reads anything into the situation) will definitely look at whether the punishment fit the crime.

while I'm not familiar with this specific incident consider this...

1 - Was he representing the school while running this camp ?
2 - Does the school have a code of ethics and standards ?
3 - Are these standards outlined as part of a contract with the coach.?

If the Answer is yes to all three above, and the ethics/standards were violated while he was representing the school (as a coach at a camp), then I would say the school had no choice in the matter and did the right thing.

In addition, ask yourself, would you send your D off to a school with a coach with a certain reputation, irregardless of whether it was fact or fiction ?.
