I saw a Bugatti for the first time ever in real life yesterday, don't know the model. What shocked me even more than seeing a Bugatti (high-end cars like that aren't really common around here) was that the person parked it in a normal spot in the Target parking lot, and not off in the distance, away from other cars. Either the person doesn't care, or is overly optimistic about how people get in and out of their cars in crowded parking lots.

That said about high-end cars not being common around here, I've seen a few Porsches through the years, the SUV being most common since its release, and there are a couple Lotus Elises near me, and a plethora of Corvettes, if they even count. That's about it.

I see a Ferrari about every 2 months or so. Lots of Porsches. A Lamborghini once a year, maybe. The high end BMW's/Audis/Benzes, etc? Too many to count. Way too many.

I saw a Koenigsegg CCXR a few years ago on 35W just south of Hinckley. Had to do a quintuple-take on that. What the hell was that thing doing there?

I have seen ONE Lotus in real life on the road in my life. Last summer, Elise, yellow, Plymouth area. Like SOH, had to do the quintuple-take.

Edit: makes me appreciate the 1972 (?) Pantera, yellow, that my childhood neighbor had for years. Growing up, not knowing cars, just thought it was your normal cool car. Oops.

My memory is fading, but back in the mid to late '70s, one of the guys on the Badger hockey team had a Pantera. His dad was either a major dealer or a Ford exec. At any rate, if there was anything that could make you cooler in those days than being on the hockey team, I imagine that car was it.

Several of the Elise running around my part of town. A guy in my neighborhood I see often on nice days. The Esprit are much more rare sightings but have seen a couple on east metro roadways.

I've seen a Bentley on the road a couple of times. The rarest car to spot that might be surprising to be rare is the Audi R8—I saw one in a parking lot nearby to my office once, but don't recall seeing it again. I'm not sure if it was the V8 or V10 version of the car.

anybody here buy a car off Cars.com or Autotrader etc.? Of the private sellers I've responded to I've gotten one response...and that was an attempt at fraud. Can't tell if the others are lazy, already sold it or what. I included the right words to indicate I was a buyer, not a shopper and wasn't looking to finance the transaction...things that I would have thought got at least an email or phone call back. Just curious if others have had different results.

I've bought through autotrader listings several times but for a somewhat specialized market. Dealing specifically with the Mustang community who are most often a trustworthy bunch. I think I'd generally make two attempts and forget about anyone who doesn't respond within a week max. I've sold several cars through various auto market publications and websites too...but always respond to inquiries even to let people know the car has sold. I cancel the adds quickly after a sale to avoid that as much as possible. I'm sure many don't bother with that common courtesy.

Selling is a pain in the rear as you always...without fail have to waste a bunch of time with goofballs who have no intention of buying or want to make "serious" offers for about 10% of what you're asking, before eventually dealing with a true serious buyer who actually has money to buy. That's kind of Mustang thing as well. Try to sell one and you'll spend a lot of time talking to kids who "want" the car but can't even afford the insurance.

I've seen two Nissan GT-Rs here in Anchorage. One in the dead of winter. It's AWD, but that's still A LOT of car to handle on ice.

Years ago I witnessed a guy pull his...or someone's Lamborghini Countach into a gas station in my neighborhood, dead of winter in the middle of a near blizzard / ugly snowstorm with at least six inches of wet slop on the roads. I thought that guy was clearly nuts driving a car like that in those conditions. During a Minnesota winter at all really.

I saw one of these at Lord Fletcher's last summer. I had met my wife and she asked me to grab something from her van. Dude pulled up next to her in the lot (didn't look older than 35 btw) and when he got out I asked him if he'd like to trade for a day saying I'd throw in two kids to make it even. He smiled and just walked inside:

I've seen a couple Diablos in the NW suburbs of Minneapolis (including one at a Brooklyn Center Best Buy parking lot, probably not the best place to park ;) ). There's a gas station owner in Golden Valley (suburb of Mpls) that has a DeLorean and a Testarossa.

Around Detroit you see a lot of manufacturer plate cars driving the roads with very odd paint jobs/car covers. Some are interesting.

I was lucky enough to drive a number of what might be considered exotics over the years, both on the road and at events. I had a Lotus Elan, a spitfire, a series 1.5 E type etc. Sometimes I'd get to drive someone else's car too. The older exotics are kind of quirky though they are fun to drive generally as the grip is limited so you can toss the car around.
My favorite to drive was a 1966 Ferrari 275 GTB long nose, but it is hard to shift, with a very stiff clutch, and it's hot inside in the summer, plus it overheats easily. The one car I'd like to drive would be a DB-5. You almost never see them any more on the roads.

If you offered me the choice of any exotic these days, I'd take a Ferrari 450 Italia. They are not that great for long trips as the ride is pretty hard, but man they are fast. For long trips, a new A.M. would be great.

One of my buddies takes his wife shopping in his Ferrari. He parks in a normal spot, and she goes in. He opens the hood and stands there. Has a great time for the next hour.

I've seen a ton of Maseratis and Bentleys. But that's because I have a bud that sells them.

Maseratis sounds incredibly sexy. So nice.

I heard a rumor that chevy is coming out with a performance version of the cruize. anyone know if this is true, and is there any information out on it?

An SS version was rumored 3 years ago when the Cruze first dropped, but it never materialized. In the face of the Focus ST and Dart Rallye, I wouldn't be shocked if Chevy was revisiting it for 2014 or 2015. It appears that there have been some artists renderings of a Cruze SS floating around on the Internet for months, both coupe and 4-dr. models. It's all still unconfirmed though.

I was close to buying a Cruze last year, but Ford put out a bunch of summer deals to get rid of their stock of 2012 Fusions, so I took the opportunity to bump up to a mid-size and stay in budget.
