Re: Cars

How about wrecking a $1/4M Lambo right after buying it.
Reminds me of one of my favorite car (horror) stories. Apologies if I've posted this before:

A friend of mine worked for a computer game company in Seattle, and they were bringing over a lot of Russian programmers because they were cheap. Some of them didn't know how to drive, or even have drivers' licenses. One of the Russians who'd been there a while agreed to teach a newcomer to drive his Fiero in the company parking lot. Things being what they were, the learner mistook forward for reverse, or the gas for the brake, and ended up driving through the fence at the edge of the parking lot, into the lot of the company next door. Unfortunately, since it was hilly, there was about a 6 foot drop to the next lot. Fortunately, the fall was cushioned by the cherry-red Ferrari 360 that the owner of the next-door company had parked far away from the building "to keep it safe from scratches." Oops. The surprising part of the story is that the Russian guy did not flee the country in shame and was still working there several years later - he never did get a license, though, and took the bus everywhere.

Re: Cars

I have a 1952 Bombardier R12, Auto Neige(Snow Car), its quite the rig. Just got it running, been sitting in Northern New Brunswick for many years, my Mom In Law had it given to her by an old woodsman she befriended and help take care of until he passed a few years ago. It was registered in 2004 I assume last time it was running. Here is a video of it running today. Its 251 Chrysler Industrial, 6 cyl. flat head. It has tracks like a bulldozer(only rubber) and skis on the front.

Does the fan turn??

Re: Cars

Does the fan turn??
It will once I get an alternator on it :). Wanted to get it running before I start to sink money into this thing. Needs alot of mechanical attention, it was held together with hay wire as their were no parts store where this guy lived. Hopefully I'll get the alternator on it later this week. I'm sure at that point a water pump will be needed as it going to leak as seals are dried out.

here is what the thing looks like, maybe some Minnesota guys have seen them before? Made from the 40s to the 70s.

The only time I've seen something like that is in a movie. That movie was The Shining.

Looks like something you would see in Russia.

Re: Cars

Oh, and is anybody interested in buying a restoration project? About 15 years ago my brother conned my parents into helping him buy an old 1956 Chevy Delray that had sat for years in somebody garage waiting for them to get enough money to sink into it. And pretty much for the last 15 years, most of it has sat out in a corner of our barn here in assorted parts and pieces after he got done tearing it apart. Now he's thinking about getting rid of it. Thought that there might be somebody here who might be interested in it.

Re: Cars

So today's bbca top gear had a comparison test of a fiat 500 abarth, a renault clio, and a citroen something or other. Driving the F1 course at monaco. Boy did that look like a blast.

Re: Cars

Saw one of these tubs buzzing down the road on my evening commute: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ford_Ranch_Wagon#1965.E2.80.931977

Must've been late 60s or early 70s. Surprisingly good condition, complete with uber-kitschy Hawaiian dancer figurine on the dashboard :p. Funniest part is that a guy no older than me was driving it. :D

I work in a big corporate area with a long commute, so I've just about seen it all, from late 80s Chrysler K-Cars ready for the scrap heap to Bentleys, Porsches, 'Vettes, etc. But that was definitely the most hilarious.
