Canada IS hockey

Re: Canada IS hockey

Isn't it THE Ohio State?

Hey UCONN! Alright, yes, The Ohio State University is the official name of the school. I'm old-school, when I was there back in the day, it was just Ohio State. Regardless of how it is referred to, all us grads are proud of the university and we love all our women's hockey players! I am obviously very proud of our four Buckeyes who won medals at the 2010 Vancouver Olympics. I am as American as they get, but I could not root against Tessa Bonhomme and her teammates in the gold medal game. Just cannot root against Buckeyes, even in a big rivalry game. With Canada's talented players and their preparation, they will always be tough to beat for the gold medal. I do think the Americans are closing the gap a little with golds at worlds but until they win gold again (last time in 1998) on the big stage at the Olympics, we'll have to settle for being second best. If we are going to be second best, I don't have a problem being second best to our neighbors to the north. Love those Canadians! Send some more hockey players to "The Ohio State University", please!

True enough. I am comforted by my own strong belief that each edition of Team USA is undoubtedly less agreeable to the prospect than I'm gathering you are, and by the fact or strong likelihood that for any / all Team USA players and the majority of their fans it's not as problem free per past and future Olympic meetings between the two. ;)

I've also interpreted many UMD fans feel much the same as you when it comes to some European teams in Olympic competition match-ups vs. Team USA.

Oh dear...hope I haven't strayed too far from topic! :)

Re: Canada IS hockey

We might send them to an Ohio state university but we wont tell you which one.

Hi West! If we are talking women's hockey, the only university in this state that has a varsity women's hockey program would be The Ohio State University! Now if you are talking about club teams or men's teams ... different story, but for women's hockey, we're it for now!

CanHockGuy, thank you for the kind words! Having coached AAU women's basketball in the past, I feel that regardless of where the kids are from, as long as they are wearing my school's colors, I will support them! I also firmly believe in the "Love Thy Neighbor" commandment (ie. Canada is our neighbor)! Really looking forward to the next Winter Olympics! Hope to see women's hockey survive for many Olympics to come. I love this forum because it's the one place I can come to talk hockey 24/7/365! Mrs. 86 and I are hoping to make the trek to worlds next April in Vermont. It will be a 12-hour drive for us, but you never know if it's going to be any closer! Maybe someday when it's Canada's turn to host it will be held in Toronto or Windsor would be awesome (Windsor = three-hour drive from us)! Take care everyone! Hockey season is right around the corner!

Event is in Ottawa in 2013. That is about 4 hours north of TO, but if you are in Columbus, get there via Syracuse. Ottawa is 3 hours from Syracuse, so that is closer for you than Burlington, VT.

West, very nice arena. Looks like it will be a great place to see a game.

OnMAA, I better start saving my money for that one!

Brooky, not saying it can't be done. As I said, we have done it at worlds, we just haven't won gold in the Olympics since 1998. Right now, when it comes to the Olympics, the Canadians are doing it better than we are. I am not saying that won't change at some point, just basically saying they are on the top of the mountain until someone knocks them off. I didn't mean to sound like I was dissing our US girls, just giving credit where it's due to our neighbors. I know it's a big rivalry and I am not thrilled about coming in second in the Olympics, but when I am watching the US and Canada hook up in women's hockey, I'm not screaming at the tv like I do when Ohio State plays Michigan in football. I tend to enjoy women's hockey played at its highest level, and I enjoy seeing the hard-fought games between the two.
