how much were those 'working classer''s types getting during your time period? costs? what was gov'ment allowed to get away with (guns and butter). gold standard (:D). coloreds were kept in their place.

sign of the change when when the steel workers in the 70s were told their wages made the companies uncompetitive with japs steel and the workers didn't wish to renegotiate downward their wages and just retired to florida. not exactly fitting your fairytale, but....

sure we COULD house everyone, but it'll be fodder for bern to yell about higher incarceration rates :p
we could give food stamps to everyone to buy beer and cigs at the 7-11 :D
we could keep them negros down on the modern democrat plantation like hilly down now. :eek:

Of course, but I think it's fair to say that on economic issues you're a centrist and on social issues you're a leftist.

However, the only label that matters at the present time is "anti-Republican," so as far as I'm concerned we're brothers in arms. We've also got a lot of interesting bedfellows here, among the "liberal Libertarians," the "Cold War liberals," and whatever the hell Scoob is. :)

I think we have a winning coalition as long as we can keep our sh-t together.

The median numbers are stunning - a look at the wealth of the average citizen. How many would predict that the average Greek has more wealth than the average American or that the average Italian has 3 times the wealth of the average American?

IMO it shows how economy totals...and actually the mean number...has whitewashed the health of other global and what are often truly socialist economies.

The only thing I found truly stunning was how in the phuck did Australia manage to have a median wealth of over $200k?! Australia. Where the dollarydoo is the official currency.

Manufacturing. Holden did quite a bit of work for years for GM.

Doesn't seem likely that the average Frenchman has triple the average American's wealth due to too many grade school superintendents.

Works for me. My problem though is many Sanders supporters aren't quite as charitable as you are. Something IMHO he needs to get a handle on. If everyone making over 50K is the enemy, you've just crossed a lot of good libs in CA, MA, NY, NJ, MD, VA etc. I'm sure you understand that, but a lot more people on the left than I would have expected don't seem to at this point.

I'd also say it would interest me if someone came up with a proposal to tax inherited wealth differently than earned it yourself wealth...

I'm sorry but I have a hard time believing the avg Greek is doing better than the avg American given the financial chaos that country is in.

Sorry Kep, but again there are too many Bernie supporters, I'm speculating younger people, who seem to think everybody who makes money is a corporate schill/Wall St fat cat. If you're in your 30's, 40's or 50's there's a good chance you've progressed enough in your career to be hitting the upper middle class. Especially in a two income household (which I don't live in currently :mad: ;) ). I disagree with Bernie's single payer proposal because its 1) unrealistic in its assumptions, and 2) taxes people who don't deserve to be taxed. That doesn't make me a corporate sellout or a DINO or a centrist. I merely think the first plan he's detailed out of the box is unworkable. The issue I'm having is Bernie supporters are using 100% fidelity to Bernie's proposals as a litmus test for whether you can call yourself a progressive or not. They need to dial that back quite a bit.

I'd pay more taxes for a good cause. For example, gas tax should be raised to pay for increased infrastructure spending. Increasing Soc Sec limit as well. However, I need not agree to every tax increase Bernie proposes to keep my liberal bona fides.

Except that's nonsense. I'm sure you can find some people who think like that, in the same way that there are people who think if you don't vote for Hillary you're part of the Evil Patriarchy. There are idiots everywhere. But if instead of setting up straw men you engage with the Bernie supporter you have standing (typing) in front of you, it becomes a lot harder to denigrate the whole group.

The difference here seems to be that while there are plenty of idiot Clintonistas I've been bending over backwards to accommodate them and invite them to dine on the warm corpse of conservative hypocrisy, whereas you continually fall back on these silly generalizations. Here's a thought: you won't agree with all Bernie's arguments just like I won't agree with all of Hillary's, but instead of concentrating on the differences and going for the jugular maybe we should accentuate our areas of agreement and keep eyes on the November prize?
