Re: Campaign 2016 - Snow White and the 7 dwarfs.

How did he feel about Manhattan?

My favorite line about Manhattan is in the movie 24 Hour Party People:

Homophobe: "All you perverts should just move to an island!"

Gay man: "We did. You're standing on it."

Re: Campaign 2016 - Snow White and the 7 dwarfs.

People spend way too much time fretting about who looked at whom (or what). If I'm in a locker room with people who treat me with respect, cool - I couldn't care less what they're thinking or feeling on the inside. If I've changed in front of a gay guy and I'm now on his "highlight reel"...so what? I should be so lucky.

Now, if there's any lack of respect, shaming, bullying, threatening, or any other crappy *behavior* going on in the locker room, that has to stop, period - but that's true independent of the sexuality of the people involved. I think I'm on fairly safe ground to predict that most unwanted locker room behaviors are perpetrated by heterosexuals. If you were a TG high schooler, the last thing in the world you would want is to draw even more attention to yourself by misbehaving.

Good post.

I don't know. Sexual harassment might more often be perpetrated by deeply closeted, frightened, confused, abused, etc. individuals ("bullies") than just by "heterosexuals." The gay and straight people that were comfortable with themselves and their self-images didn't seem to be the bullies. It's often based on fear and self-loathing.
But to the point, the "out" TG kid is probably the least likely one to cause a problem.

Re: Campaign 2016 - Snow White and the 7 dwarfs.

Maybe its worth something. Seems to me her influence is diminished in the areas and among segments that matter in both the primaries and national election.

I think it becomes an important discriminator if the race moves into a tie, because Warren embodies the two major appeals of the candidates, and her choice is the Democrats' choice in microcosm: do you go for the symbolism of the first woman president or the concrete policy choices of a return of the Democratic party, after 25 years in the center, to an honestly left-leaning party? Both choices appeal to liberals, but in this election they are strictly either/or.

Warren also knows that if she throws her support to Bernie too easily Hillary then will be tempted to disparage liberal stances. We've already seen this with Hillary's extraordinarily dishonest portrayal of Sanders as a threat to Obamacare, when obviously as she knows very well his strategy is to evolve it further towards single payer. But she lumps him in with the knucks' repeal theater hoping that lofo voters will be fooled. She has not yet tried that sort of sleight of hand with fiscal policy, but if Warren aligned with Bernie that would be her obvious move.

I think Liz is playing it just right.

Excellent article on whether or not Cruz is eligible.

http://www.bloombergview.com/articles/2016-01-12/is-cruz-natural-born-well-maybe

The last paragraph is the best part.

On the merits, I agree with Cruz: The Naturalization Act of 1790 counts in his favor, and because he was a U.S. citizen at birth under U.S. law, the better view is that he is natural born. But University of San Diego constitutional specialist Michael Ramsey, a former law clerk to Justice Antonin Scalia, put it well: “It’s a mystery to me why anyone thinks it’s an easy question.”

So when Joe Voter gets in the booth his decision will come down to

A) hilly
2) cruz's vp choice

Re: Campaign 2016 - Snow White and the 7 dwarfs.

Cruz' wife works for Goldman Sachs? GOP voters are supposed to believe anything this loon says about opposing the Wall Street bailout, when his Senate campaign was bailed out by his wife's employer?

Re: Campaign 2016 - Snow White and the 7 dwarfs.

NPR treated the Cruz story much more gently, so now I'm not sure he'll be able to brush it off or not. Not that it will make a difference in the long run, but only in how soon he'll drop out. The way NPR put it, he did report the loans, but to the wrong bureau. And the rates he paid on the loans were not out of the ordinary. And other candidates have "paid a fine" for making the same "mistake." So I don't know.

The problem isn't whether he failed to declare, it's that he's literally in bed with Goldman. "Outsider"? Yeah, right! He's done.
