Campaign 2016 - Snow White and the 7 dwarfs.

Re: Campaign 2016 - Snow White and the 7 dwarfs.

In my fantasy land of a country rid of the Republican Party, libertarianism/collectivism doesn't need to share an axis with conservative/liberal. For example, the most obvious argument for conserving... OK, that's fiscal policy, but the second most obvious argument is in conserving natural resources. Collective conservatism butts heads with the libertarian ideals of strip mining and unlimited grazing rights. Also on the federal budget, for that matter.
Also, there are liberal ideals like gay marriage and of course pot smoking that are inherently libertarian.

Mine is even simpler: 4 parties each representing one quadrant in the social x econ quad chart:

Socialist: left social, left economic
Populist: right social, left economic
Libertarian: left social, right economic
Conservative: right social, right economic

IRV for all elections.

There would likely never be a majority government, leaving the parties to work out coalitions (SC and PL don't make sense, but the other 4 combinations SP, SL, PC, LC do). Coalition-building prevents parties from becoming (or at least governing) too extreme. And multi-party is far more difficult for elites to capture.

Next Debate Rand and Carly got kicked to the kid's table. Rand told them to **** off so we won't see him at all.

I like that guy.

Does Carly just freestyle lies about PP for two hours?

Be afraid, Rover. Not very afraid, but a little.

I must say, it would be one the funniest things ever if she blew it twice, and those Dem apparatchiks who aren't paid employees of the Clintons can read polls.

In Iowa, no one can hear you squirm.

Bernie can win Iowa and NH and still lose 45 of the other 48 states.

Until he starts polling better among minorities and moderates, he's still the prohibitive underdog. Right now he's gonna get creamed on Super Tuesday

But right now he hasn't won in IA and NH and had a few weeks of press coverage of him winning and better still, of Hillary being "desperate," "in tatters," "a shambles," "shaken," and all those other dumb narratives that so-called journalists have to file at deadline while drunkenly making the local weather girl if I'm happy baby I can get you to the big city I can get you to Des Moines.

By all rights Hillary should have run the table on Obama after NH -- talk about having an inside track on SEC Tuesday! -- but as dumb as it is the horse-race momentum is incredibly important which is why candidates spend two years sucking up to the slack-jawed rubes in IA and NH in the first place.

Heh, I figured you'd be all over that. ;)

Look, no offense to Sen. Sanders, but I don't think the Pope has 90% to 6% Fav/Unfav rating, so I'm a wee bit curious as to who they're sampling here. I mean, does FDR even have those kinds of #'s? :D

I can't see anybody among the Dems actually giving Bernie a negative, can you? Even Hillary's army would just give her a higher positive than him, but what about him is anybody rational* going to find objectionable?

* Yes, I realize the right will build him into Josef Stalin before they're through... but they do that with anybody with a (D) so they've priced themselves out of the market. The poor shmoes cried about "TEH CUMMINIST!!11!!11! when faced with centrists in Bill and Obama, and now when they have an actual socialist they've used up all the Fear Sauce.

You might if you polled a few conservaDems, who do exist even in NH. A 90-6 spread is unprecedented. I've never heard of that in any race anywhere. Closest I ever saw was Bush right after 9/11 and that was explainable.

Look, if the dude is thought of that favorably more power to him. I would think his anti Brady Bill and anti gun manufacturer liability stances would get him into double digit unfavorability with some of the electorate though. I would also think some of the Emily's List crowd might ding him just for being a threat to the Hill.

Fortunately for us, we'll know soon enough.

EDIT: The poll showing him leading among Dem women is also a little....odd.

Dem women are more liberal than Dem men, so I don't find it surprising. Other than some creepy Second Wave battle axes from Hillary's generation, women -- well, Democratic women anyway -- have gotten well beyond plumbing as a factor. And I think women also realize that Bernie is far more likely to go to the wall for reproductive rights than Mrs. "everything's on the table as long as I get to be the Queeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeen."

 You're basing this on what exactly?

Also, saying women aren't going to vote for Hillary just because she's a women is like saying the Irish didn't come out for Kennedy or blacks for Obama. It might not be right, but I find it hard to believe that a choice between two similar on issues candidates, both older and one male and one female and women are going to overwhelmingly support the male candidate. That would be somewhat surprising IMHO.

So, Kim Davis will be at the State of the Union address tonight.

"We are not releasing the names of the Congressmen who provided tickets for Kim and Mat because the focus should not be on the Congressmen or politics but on why Kim and (Liberty Council Chairman) Mat Staver are there. Kim will be in the gallery tonight as a counterweight to the President's message. She is representing many Americans who have been adversely affected by the President's policies, specifically this Administration's trampling of religious liberty," said Charla Bansley of Liberty Counsel.

They're too gutless and spineless to tell us who invited her though. Meanwhile it's another opportunity for the GOP to blame the Black Man for oppressing them.

Nobody said "overwhelming" except you. I'm countering your argument that women are going to flock to Hillary because she shares their organs. Do you think the same thing would happen if Carly won the GOP nomination and ran against Bernie?

As I said, there are women of a certain age who bear the scars (and thinking) of Second Wave feminism who will lap up Hillary's gender play like Gloria Steinem's placenta. But I think Democratic women under 50 have grown up in a different world and realize that while symbols are important ceilings are broken by policies and actions, and they'll be more likely to choose a bona fide liberal.

I agree lofo women would flock to Hillary, but then you run into the problem that lofo women are probably Republican from the "git back in the kitchen ma darlin' angel" school of 19th century gender roles.

Re: Campaign 2016 - Snow White and the 7 dwarfs.

Rut roh.
Donald Trump is actually right about something: Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Tex.) is not a natural-born citizen and therefore is not eligible to be president or vice president of the United States.

The Constitution provides that “No person except a natural born Citizen . . . shall be eligible to the Office of President.” The concept of “natural born” comes from common law, and it is that law the Supreme Court has said we must turn to for the concept’s definition. On this subject, common law is clear and unambiguous. The 18th-century English jurist William Blackstone, the preeminent authority on it, declared natural-born citizens are “such as are born within the dominions of the crown of England,” while aliens are “such as are born out of it.” The key to this division is the assumption of allegiance to one’s country of birth. The Americans who drafted the Constitution adopted this principle for the United States. James Madison, known as the “father of the Constitution,” stated, “It is an established maxim that birth is a criterion of allegiance. . . . [And] place is the most certain criterion; it is what applies in the United States.”

Cruz is, of course, a U.S. citizen. As he was born in Canada, he is not natural-born.

My first instinct is it doesn't matter, it will go to the Court and just as they did in Bush v. Gore they'll ram it through on purely partisan lines. But. Cruz really is utterly loathed, and he's also perceived within the RNC and a guaranteed loser, so their partisan decision may be to bury him.
