Campaign 2016 - Snow White and the 7 dwarfs.

Re: Campaign 2016 - Snow White and the 7 dwarfs.

We've talked about the US Russian relationship needing a reset. This country needs a reset.

What it needs is a strong Dem personality to call out the right's increasingly bizarre and immature behavior. We need a Kennedy kind of persona to be fearless...and just say that commentary on the right has gone off the rails. Embrace the average moderate Republican. And have no tolerance for ideas that are totally wacky. The only reason we're in this predicament is that the extreme right has not been called out for bad behavior. So now bad behavior and stupid ideas has become a test of strength to the detriment of the country. So now ideas from the bizarre 20% has taken over the dialog...which is admired by another 20% as strength. This rhetoric and behavior such as Iraq has led to extremism elsewhere...its all related. Thank you Limbaugh and Murdoch.

this is all well and good... but you do realize that the D have been in control for 7+ years :D and did in fact control all branches for the first couple of those.

Not sure what that has to do with my post.

Are you saying that Cruz, Trump, Carson, Bachmann, Palin have behaved as presidential as Obama? Romney's 49% comment is the most presidential thing we've heard out of the GOP since then. The only reason this is any sort of contest is that Hillary was so dominant early that all other Dems were scared off...and now she's turned into a total supernova.

Yeah, it has to be a dem. Someone like Hilary, she almost cares

Yeah it does. Say a moderate conservative (call him Jeb) steps up and calls these guys out on their bs commentary and childish behavior. All they have to do is call him out for being 'weak' and a socialist and he's toast in any GOP primary. stupidity=strength.

I get the party of 'no'. But do any of these GOP candidates even have a single well developed policy position?

LOL.

No. We actually need Trump to get elected if you want a reset. The Country didn't learn a ****ing thing while the Shrub was running it so it needs to go completely off the rails to get the picture.

"That's not leadership, it's assault."

We can't afford another Republican president. The last one wasted several generations of prosperity and international good will. Obama has at least gotten us out of the hole, but the margin for error is gone. The adults have to hold on until this bizarre brownshirt fever breaks on the right.

It's not healthy having only one functional wing in American politics, but that has been the way it's been since 1994, and the right has only gotten more and more stupid, angry, and dangerous. Winning will only subsidize that behavior. The only way to have two functional parties is for the GOP to be punished so harshly that it learns crime doesn't pay.

None of the Rs mentioned are presidents. You do what you have to do to win the primaries; retrench a bit and try to win the general. Only after you've won do you have to start acting presidential.

And can you define what "Acting Presidential" is? Was Mr. Clinton "Acting Presidential" 24/7/365?

Re: Campaign 2016 - Snow White and the 7 dwarfs.

As Jacob deGrom is my witness, this is an intelligent and correct analysis by Rush Limbaugh.

Basically Rush is admitting -- crowing, even -- that the grassroots conservatism he has so well harnessed and exploited is not substantive, it's emotional. The anger and viciousness aren't byproducts of the frustration of a political stance -- they are the political stance.

This makes complete sense and really helps explain why Trump has taken off and why Palin, an actual moron who only embarrasses substance conservatives, is still a Tea Party heart (or whatever) throb.

Our politics is not left vs right any more, it's Enlightenment vs Counter-Enlightenment. This is Descartes and Spinoza against de Maistre and Nietzsche. It is reason vs power.

I actually think this is a real problem, because my read on humans is for every person who interprets the world via reason there are 9 who interpret it via power.

To Keps point, we did that with W. How many learned when the country completely went off the rails? And we need it to go off the rails again so people can forget for about 2 years?

Maybe there's some truth to that. But the level of circus in the GOP nomination process has reached epic proportions. Which nomination process was even close?

And can you define what "Acting Presidential" is?

Having some policy somewhere beyond making Mexico pay for illegals and repealing every law since 2008. Thankfully, that doesn't mean a full rewrite of the Constitution.

We have heard:

Dem voters here on GOP nominees they hate -> yes
Dem voters here on Dem nominees they like -> yes
GOP voters here on Dem nominees they hate -> yes
GOP voters here on GOP nominees they like -> no

GOP voters here...which GOP nominee (in the top 10) would be a very good president and why?

There has long been a belief that there are many Americans that have been a tool for the Republican party. That is specifically that the GOP looks to place the tax burden on this low income group...and the same low income group votes the GOP into office every time.

Never before this nomination process has the exploitation of this group of voters (i.e., as a tool of the GOP party) been so obvious.

Edit: Now if a GOP supporter on this site could substantiate why several of these GOP nominees would be great presidents...that might invalidate the above point of view.

The interesting thing to me is this is now being voiced by conservatives. To liberals it was always obvious that Republicans were waging class warfare and just lying about the class they supported, but if even conservatives have caught on now, how are mainstream corporate Republicans still getting elected? They've got a majority in the House where there are only about 40 Freedom Caucus members out of 230 GOPers, and they control state legislatures and governorships by about a 3:2 ratio. Yet the RNC is now as hated among grassroots conservatives as Obama or Clinton.

If the erosion of the mainstream of both parties continues one can imagine a coalition of the anti-Wall Street left and the anti-Wall Street right to jack up taxes on the parasites. Just because we have different social values doesn't mean we have to be crippled on our economic priorities.

People didn't learn. They need to.

If you feel the need to punish yourself become an Islanders fan. I'm not going to watch President Cruz get 3 SCOTUS nominations because you wanted to prove a point. On that I am 100% with Rover.

Corporate Republicans are still getting elected because given the choice between the establishment and a Democrat, all but the staunchest of social conservatives are not willing to sit out the election on principle and let the Dem win. In the minds of most on both sides of the aisle, it is better to go with the Devil Lite than the Devil. Kind of the same rationale that has most Democrats going, "Thanks Bernie, but we'll settle for the candidate who has the demographic numbers to actually win the election. Plus, womyns."

And you are dreaming if you think the anti-Wall Street conservatives will ever join forces with the lefties. They may be anti-Wall Street, but they are universally opposed to any tax increases on anyone.

I am of the belief that the most effective form of government is cooperative both from a legislation (GOP & Dem) standpoint and from an execution (business/labor/government) standpoint. Most on the right and many of the left disliked Obama. And frankly many on the right and most on the left disliked Jeb. Two of the more capable politicians in the last handful of cycles. Perhaps we should skip the nomination process and go straight into presidential elections with a dozen candidates.

Is it purely coincidence that the date you cite (1994) is close to when the world wide web began to gain purchase? I know the web has the potential to open up dialogue to include individuals and organizations with limited power and that it can or should serve as a leveler in that respect, but it also serves as an echo chamber, allowing people to limit their information input to sources they already agree with. Nothing new in that, but it has become magnified. Every time we open up a homepage we are fed articles (and advertisements) designed to cater to our opinions and preferences. This is a perfect environment for people already disposed to take a simplistic view of things to completely avoid the cognitive dissonance that comes with hearing objective truths that don't fit your world view. Mix in the emotions of fear and hate and you have in impenetrable wall. The roof can collapse and people will not see it.

I think there are a LOT of GOP one-issue voters who will put up with a lot of doubt on the downside if the PAC marketing has successfully sold them on the idea that guns, or babies, or terrorists, or Mexicans, etc. is The One Thing that really matters for America. This was driven home to me the other day in a conversation with a fervent NRA donor. It's a million small frightened constituencies.
