Someone has to build the robot that builds the other robots. The other 300,000,000 of us don't have to do anything related to manufacturing.

Our manufacturing output is higher than ever. The jobs aren't being lost to the Chinese, they're lost to robotics.

Eventually people aren't going to need to work for us to sustain our economy. We've actually probably already passed that point, but it's still useful to keep the vast majority cowering in fear of losing their jobs to control them.

But very soon we'll be a post-work humanity. TPTB are going to have to come up with another cudgel.

Or that would be true if the richest 62 humans weren't sucking up wealth equal to that of over 3 billion others.

The solution might just be to phase out those 3,000,000,062 humans. Each side gets half a loaf and all that. The planet could use a break from the 3 billion, and nobody is going to miss those 62.

That's a smidgen too radical for my taste. I kind of prefer endless debate over marginal tax rates.
