Campaign 2016 - People lie the most after a hunt, during a war or before an election

Re: Campaign 2016 - People lie the most after a hunt, during a war or before an elect

I still don't think Jim Gilmore--who is remarkably still in the race even after last night's Late Show--gets to participate in the next kid's table debate, even with Perry out. I suspect Perry's empty chair will have more personality anyway.

Re: Campaign 2016 - People lie the most after a hunt, during a war or before an elect

We take a brief timeout from the US election to report that Jeremy Corbyn was elected Labour Party leader in the UK. Mr. Corbyn is several leagues left of Bernie Sanders, which will make for interesting elections in the UK for the immediate future.

Tonight is also Last Night of the Proms. 2:00 ET start on BBC Radio 3.

We now return you to your normal programming..

Sorry but that isnt going to happen. Unless an Obama comes out of nowhere the Superdelegates arent going against The Machine. Warren isnt coming around so just stop hoping. The other 3 arent going to blow any skirts up either. You better pray for Bernie or Uncle Joe because they are your only chance of the Pantsuit not winning.

This is about winning the General not about who is the best candidate for the Liberal Wing and as much as it sucks Hillary can beat the Clown Shown as is. Everyone else needs help from the middle and none of he people you name inspire voters outside of Warren.

Well said. Too many people (and I'm not directing this at Kep) have the naive hope that its only Hillary vulnerable to a smear campaign. Like the media would just leave Sanders alone. If you're going to disqualify a candidate for made up scandals, don't cry when those made up scandals come after your own candidate as well.

Shutdown looming. Should be good for the GOP cause.

That isn't my point and/or we're talking past each other. We know the RNC will lie, swift boat, and slander, it's what they've done ever since Atwater. Most voters know this and just ignore it (the teabaggers will believe anything the Echo Chamber tells them but they were always going to vote R anyway).

Hillary is uniquely vulnerable, however, in 2 ways. Firstly, she is naturally suspicious. She's shifty and people don't trust her. That's not anything the GOP did to her; it's her. Secondly, the email really is squirrelly and suspect behavior, and her reaction has been terrible.

If this were any other candidate in any other year they'd be written off as irreparably damaged. The negatives are piling up and she's not doing anything to get clear of them. She is becoming too risky.

If somehow her handlers figure out how to get her clear of it then her undeniable positives again get the upper hand. But so far it's been a death spiral, and closing your eyes tight and pretending it's not happening is not an effective strategy.

This is such a ludicrously terrible GOP field that we don't need an all star to beat them, we just need somebody who won't implode.

Can't tell if you're being serious (not a shot at you)

Honestly, after everything I've seen in the last few weeks with Tronald Dump, I wouldn't be shocked if a shutdown boosts their numbers overall.

Kep

The Dems can always play TV commercials of a girl playing with flowers.

Isn't it telling that the worst smear ad you can reference from the DNC is 50 years old and pre-Southern Strategy?

But keep telling yourself BSABSVR.

99% of the TV political ads are garbage. The LBJ ad (which only ran once, IIRC) is in the hall of fame. You never forget the classics.

EDIT: The front page of the mobile WaPo. Now HRC's a socialist!!

Alrighty then.

Donald Trump says that if he's elected, it would only take his administration up to two years to deport all the undocumented immigrants currently residing in the United States.

What Hillary needs to do is come out swinging, which she's shown some signs of but isn't doing it enough. For starters, I'd start throwing around the term "Nixonian" for the strategy of having the opposition party in Congress launch 50 investigations of an opposition candidate for President. They'd be doing this to Joe Biden as well if he was in the race and Hillary wasn't.

However, the e-mail thing, like the IRS, like Benghazi, like.....you name it, lives and dies by whether there's something there or not. So yes if Hillary ordered a clone of OBL to be killed and has the real OBL hidden in her basement, and that's in her e-mails, then that would be a problem. However, when nothing happens the public starts questioning what the hell are we investigating anymore? That happened during the Starr coup attempt and will happen again. Have we heard anything lately about Lois Lerner? No. Why? Because the GOP is stuck. If she had anybody to give up, they'd give her full immunity and call a public hearing tomorrow. Likewise, ever wonder why they're not anxious to have Clinton testify immediately if they've got the goods on something?

Finally, we're in the silly season where only people like ourselves and Ben Carson supporters are engaged in the process. This gives fringe candidates the look of more support than they actually have. Ultimately you have to run against somebody and in that case your stance on issues matters. That's why I have little concern about the Dems chances next year. Its going to be tough to win when you still want to deport everybody with an accent, outlaw all abortions and borrow money to give tax cuts to the 1%.

Those are fair points. The Mets tried to give away a game yesterday and the Braves were so bad they just gave it right back. That could happen in 2016; given the huge gulf between the GOP base and the other 75% of the electorate, it is difficult to see how any Republican nominee patches together 270 EV. But it was also difficult to see how Dubya could do it, and the GOP nominee will be far better than Dubya was.

I agree Clinton should counter-attack (via surrogates). The Clintons are always at their best on offense. How ironic if this becomes a boy who cried wolf scenario; the right has blared so many shrill, insane, paranoid and/or obviously fabricated accusations the last decade that a charge with actual content may be dismissed because the accusers have proved to be so morally and factually bankrupt.

Right now is like pre-season football. Its good to hone your game and try out a few new things. Its also a time for fringe roster players to try and make a name for themselves. You also don't want to get injured. For Establishment types (Jebbers! Clinton. Biden.) you have time to take it easy and wait for the real games to start. We've already seen a roster cut (Perry). Walker is the 3rd string QB who throws 5 INT's during a start against the other team's scrubs. He might not get another chance to play after this. I've got nothing when it comes to extending this analogy to Trump. ;)

Babe Laufenburg.

Bernie now speaking @ Liberty. The usual/required packed house respectfully listening. He is getting his chance to get his message across without interference.

Tim Tebow. Put together an incredibly improbable run to stoke the hype machine, but with no substance, will fade away over time.

I was thinking about him. Also considered Michael Vick after he got out of the clink. Lots of hype. Always on the cusp. Shady past. Huge media contingent following him around.

Don't know who Babe Laufenburg is....
