The mean Dems are also further left than they've been since 1896.

I would love to see your source on that (or, more likely, who fed you that confirmation biased talking point). IMO, there's no way that the current core of the Democratic Party is further left than it was under FDR or LBJ. Perhaps you're hearing too much Sanders-speak from your college-aged relatives.

Correct. The public shift the past 36 years has been right. Hillary is a 70's style Republican.

While it's true that the mean Republican is further right, Ryan's not all wrong either. The mean Dems are also further left than they've been since 1896. I get that from Rachael Maddow's POV it's all on the R's for moving right, but for anyone on the right, they have a very similarly correct argument with the D's.
Both Parties in the House have moved further away from each other ideologically and they have been digging in on both sides. That is not an environment for compromise and with the loss of the moderate southern Dems, there's really no one left to bridge the gap.

Wrong.

You could be right that Rachael Maddow is feeding confirmation bias talking points. But I used the same source she did, the 538 article Scooby posted, which relies on DW-Nominate scores for the House. Here's the Liberal/Conservative rating chart for the house since 1879

no offense but anything trying to plot 150 yrs of liberals or conservatives is bunk. there is no comparison in ideology for the past 40 years.

Fascist!!! :p

Scooby, Rachael Maddow, and Nate Silver all say this stuff is fact!

From Nate Silver's article Scooby linked to:

The rest of this article will rely on data from Voteview.com, a website published by political scientists Keith Poole, Howard Rosenthal and Christopher Hare. Voteview tracks roll call voting in Congress and publishes statistics such as DW-Nominate, an algorithm that rates members of Congress on a liberal-conservative scale.

That chart is from Voteview. Don't tell me that someone with a political POV would just take some stats that fit their POV and discard the stuff that doesn't. I mean people just DON'T DO that!

Even if it isn't bunk, that graph shows that since LBJ house Republicans have moved more than twice as much as house Democrats, and basically on a constant trajectory as well.

This was my favorite:

His source shows a far larger deviation from R's than D's. So meh.

well "even if it isn't" is a poor sourcing. not sure i want to grab something in the middle that may prove a point for you if the baseline is crap.

Re: Campaign 2016 Part XXII: Mamas Don't Let Your Babies Grow Up to be Politicians!

Friendly reminder on why nothing ever gets done and why we're in the mess we're in.

You did just throw kudos to Elizabeth Warren. Its not like she and Bernie are going to get too much done. They are not the Dem party, but rather outlyers and they are the reason we get independents with the following sentiment...

You could be right that Rachael Maddow is feeding confirmation bias talking points. But I used the same source she did, the 538 article Scooby posted, which relies on DW-Nominate scores for the House. Here's the Liberal/Conservative rating chart for the house since 1879

Cool, you provided some facts. But your evidence doesn't back your assertion that both parties have shifted away from the middle.

While your data shows southern democrats have changed, northern democrats which would be the vast majority of the democrats in Washington are literally unchanged since the 60s. This shows that general viewpoints of the left are similar to what they've always been. Why have southern democrats shifted? I would propose that African Americans are more assertive than they were in the 60s/70s and that there is an increase in other minorities such as Hispanics that are voting their conscience (vs. all white 60s southerners who just happened to vote for conservative democrats). Meanwhile the GOP (assuming zero placement has statistical relevance) has shifted 50% to the right. This can't be explained by anything other than a huge change in the political viewpoint of the right. So its pretty straightforward...a demo's change for southern dems and a hard shift to the right for republicans.

A lot of them are insults; however, many are harsh truth, for example ...

Hugh Hewitt: “just a 3rd rate 'gotcha' guy!”
Anthony D. Weiner: “perv”, “sleazebag”
Glenn Beck: “endorsement means nothing!”, “dumb as a rock”, “crying”, “lost all credibility”, "mental basketcase"
NBC News: “very dishonest” ... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KtpMzGN9uWc <-- tough to trust their "investigations" since
