Re: Campaign 2016 Part XXII: Mamas Don't Let Your Babies Grow Up to be Politicians!

If I were the Democrats I'd pull him.

When McCain put up that trial balloon of never approving any Democratic nominee that likely ensured Clinton will put up her own nominee. It is only a question now of whether the GOP can fast track Garland during lame duck. Everything says they should but their ineptitude is such that it looks 50/50 at best.

Agreed...watch them throw a fit as the candidate they refused to hold hearings about is pulled. Trevor Noah and Jo Oliver will have a field day with that :D

They cant...if someone leaks it before November guys like McCain will be in real trouble.

Hypocrisy at it's highest level. The GOP ran the Presidential campaign and Scalia's replacement on the back of the Presidential election. The voters should decide. Well, the voters are deciding. They decided the GOP would nominate Donald Trump. The Democrats decided to nominate Hillary Clinton. Whoever wins gets to pick the Supreme Court Justice.

Period.

Interesting piece on five ways this could break.

My prediction among these is Modest Clinton Majority.

Note that even under the Clinton Landslide scenario the GOP still holds the House.

Re: Campaign 2016 Part XXII: Mamas Don't Let Your Babies Grow Up to be Politicians!

So I was watching KellyAnne Conway on with Chris Wallace the other day (I got really bored at work) and after he shows her the numbers in the swing states and basically says "this doesnt look good how can you win" her response is "yeah well Hillary is under 50%!". That is how you know she knows it is over...

edit: With how much they are pushing abortion...any bets that someone comes out and says Donald had them get an abortion after he knocked them up? ;)

Do we really want American politics run by Trevor Noah and Jo Oliver?

No. Honestly. Do we? Fabulous pundits, but not the first names that come to mind as inspirational leaders. But that's what we've become as a nation.

My favorite (5. Trump shocks the world), not for the outcome, but for the quote:
"After one of the worst polling misses of all time, election “forecasters” and experts were left scratching their heads."

I'm pretty sure that was < Ctrl > C, < Ctrl > V right out of a Brexit story. ;)

Ok...lets break this down for you. Oliver and Noah are comedy guys...they cover politics with a comedic edge and unlike most of the media call people on their BS. If McCain and the Senate GOP backtrack I want them poking fun at it...cause they are comedians. (and honest)

I dont know where you got that I want them "running" American Politics...but I trust them over most so maybe now I do  (those lousy immigrants!!)

No. I don't. I don't want it run by Samantha Bee (who knocked it out of the part last night) either. I want it run by guys like Obama, Biden, and Franken. Women like Klobuchar, Clinton, and Warren. I don't want it run by Ryan, Issa, Gowdy, or McConnell. All completely nuts without a single rational thought. Sad that that's along partisan lines but that's how the GOP wants it and has wanted it for the last 18 years. This is their creation. All you have to do is look at John McCain and you see the true reflection of what the GOP has done to itself.

It will be most interesting to see what will happen with Health Care in the next year. It's getting a lot of press lately and the Democrats have had to spend all their time defending Obamacare while the Republicans have spent all their time repealing it. It would be nice to see some rolling up of sleeves and work on actual solutions to the problems.

Like I said: fabulous pundits.
But many of their viewership think they should be taken as more than just punditry. (I just gave you credit, Handy, as being smarter than that group.)

I like this analysis out of Charlie Cook who tends to defer slightly to the GOP:

http://cookpolitical.com/story/10113

In particular:

"History shows that races in the Toss Up column never split down the middle; one party tends to win the lion’s share of them. Since 1998, no party has won less than 67 percent of the seats in Toss Up. While the 2016 election has broken every political science rule and trend, we’d be surprised if this becomes one of them. "

Early voting in NC and FL has not been good at all for the GOP. The only state they're doing decent in is Iowa who's Senate race never become competitive. I'm somewhat skeptical of the Dems ability to win both Indiana AND Missouri Senate seats. However IL-WI-PA-NH-NC-IN give you 6, and then you're waiting on MO and FL to see if you had a good night or a really good night. I disagree with Nate on one thing. In a landslide scenario you don't win only the tossup seats. Its a wave if somebody goes down who wasn't on the radar, such as McCain or another surprise. Also, if Clinton beats Trump by 13 freakin points, there's no way they don't take the House. That's just absurd even by Liberal Bedwetter standards. ;)

You phrased that correctly: "will happen with". That phrase leaves the likely option of "nothing". You see, working on solutions actually means ... working. And that creates a track record. And a track record can be reviewed and used against you at re-election time. It's just far easier to make grand statements to cameras and do nothing (and thus have no discernible track record).

Yes, well, the next President likes to do things. Elizabeth Warren likes to do things. Al Franken likes to do things. Amy Klobuchar likes to do things. From what I can tell Ryan, Issa, Gowdy, and McConnell don't like to do anything except whine and complain about how they can't have their way.

Re: Campaign 2016 Part XXII: Mamas Don't Let Your Babies Grow Up to be Politicians!

I'm pretty sure it'll be President Hillary Clinton on November 9.

But, when folks are wondering come the first 100 days, or first year, why things are the way they'll be, just remember this:

... we've seen what happens when we elect a president with charisma but minus a resume: weakness, waffling, national decline. Obama's signature/single accomplishment, the Affordable Care Act, embodies design-by-committee conception and autopilot execution.

Hillary's admirers have conflated her impressive list of jobs with actually having gotten things done. When you scratch the surface, however, it's hard to avoid the conclusion that the woman has done little more than warm a series of comfy leather desk chairs. How has this career politician changed Americans' lives? Not in the least.

No doubt, Hillary knows her way around the corridors of power: First Lady, Senator from New York, presidential candidate, Secretary of State. Nice resume, but what did she do with all her jobs? Not much.

That was Ted Rall's "3 Big Reasons Hillary Clinton Should Never Be President" at the DailyKos.

HOW DARE YOU SIR!!! ;)

(thank you)

BTW if you want to hurt your brain...watch Lou Dobbs defending Drumpf and the rigged election

Which is funny because people who sit on the other side of the aisle from you would say that Warren, Franken, Clinton and Klobuchar just like to sit around to whine and complain while their guys are actually out doing something. It's all a matter of perspective and what you think "doing something" means.

Compare the accomplishments of the people in my list then get back to me. Ryan can't even pass his own budget in his own house and he's the Speaker. You as everyone else is giving me the false equivalency angle. It's going to stop working. Very soon.

Hey now...Issa is very good at convening hearings to prove everything he thinks is wrong :D
