Re: Campaign 2016 Part XXII: Mamas Don't Let Your Babies Grow Up to be Politicians!

I'll go with Reagan as the last optimistic Republican Presidential candidate. Scoobs if you think Bob freakin' Dole ran a sunny campaign that explains a lot.

Regarding the SCOTUS, the unprecedented Gooper obstructionism requires an unprecedented response. Upon winning the Senate and WH if that's the way the chips fall, Dems should ram liberal court picks up the GOP's a ss and out its mouth. You guys played a dangerous game and you're about to get torched. Too bad if you don't like it. With lifetime court appointments, Dems can seal the SCOTUS and federal judiciary for the next several decades. Voter suppression? Gone. Forced birthing laws? GONE! EPA challenges? GONE!!! Unlimited corporate spending in politics? GONE!!! Every open judicial seat needs a flaming liberal occupying it within the first few months of a Hillary administration.

Mrs. EoDS has two people she knows who participated in Trump's Green Bay rally the other night, one as a cop, the other coordinating at the hotel where the rally was held.

Trump is evidently exactly what you would expect. Bragging about his expensive stuff and acting really weird about K-9 units being near him and his stuff.

Dole was a positive man who had to run a negative, sky is falling campaign because that's the only way to try to beat a popular incumbent.

He's also in a good rap lyric in a great song, which is more than either of us ever will do. :p

Commercial and Delivery vehicles will be the last to go self-driving if ever.

I work with the trucking industry, and I am in agreement.

And seriously, Dems....what the hell? You already have this election in the bag, and this comes up?!?!?!: http://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2016/oct/18/undercover-video-shows-democrats-saying-they-hire-/

Re: Campaign 2016 Part XXII: Mamas Don't Let Your Babies Grow Up to be Politicians!

dole was a nasty old fart.

If I had to hang out with either of them for a weekend in the 90s I'd have picked Dole over Inouye. Now there was a nasty old fart.

Dole was famously witty, which is evidence of at least some share of self-awareness. Very few pols, and vanishingly few Republican pols, have that.

That's more O'Keefe nonsense via the Washington Times which is the Moonie paper. That story was already set to roll on the press before they even sent their cameras out. It's the equivalent of the Sun getting an exclusive story about Labour corruption.

If this is the case, ok. I really don't follow the "biases" with newspapers and such.

It's a nutbar paper. Think of it as the Boston Herald with better spelling.

You're best off sticking to the NY Times, Washington Post, LA Times, Boston Globe... And that's about all I really follow anymore in terms of large national newspapers. Though I'm probably missing a few that I'm just brainfarting on right now.

Maybe the Chicago Sun Times. But that was really when Ebert was still kicking.

I knew about the NY Times/LA Times/Globe. Didn't know about the Worshington papers nor Chi-town. But, I do know the Mpls Star Diaper's bias. ;)

They don't have a bias. YOu, or whomever is saying they have a bias, are just butthurt that they don't fit your narrative or you've been fed a line.

They, like the state, are quite liberal. They are not in your face about it like, say, Rolling Stone magazine, but they are liberal. I've read the Star AND Tribune and the Star Tribune since I was a wee tyke.

Re: Campaign 2016 Part XXII: Mamas Don't Let Your Babies Grow Up to be Politicians!

You make the same mistake a lot of conservatives make. Their editorial board is somewhat liberal. The paper is not.

The editorial board is obvious. The paper itself is not. My father, who once was a conservative, and now is beyond liberal....way beyond liberal....like 2390846x Wellstone liberal, even realizes there is a bias with the paper.

Re: Campaign 2016 Part XXII: Mamas Don't Let Your Babies Grow Up to be Politicians!

There's a distinction between the news and the editorial board. NY Times and WaPo are obviously liberal editorially (educated readership) but they wall off their news coverage well. WSJ used to do the same from the right until Murdoch bought it. Now like all his properties there is no difference between the editorial board and the "news."

The Globe is one of those 2nd tier papers that doesn't so much have a bias as an unerring sense of what well-scrubbed suburbanites want to read over their morning English muffins. It's Newsday with college hockey scores. Almost every small city has a paper like that: Newark Star-Ledger, Portland Oregonian, Seattle Times.

Then there are papers with obvious axes to grind: SF Chronicle (a.k.a., "the Comical") is the worst from the left. From the right there are tons -- mostly bloids -- especially now that the average subscriber is 80-years old. Most of the southern and southwestern papers seem to be trying to lap up some of the Echo Chamber crumbs. They don't really mix news with editorial because there is not much opportunity to mix political bias into "F.D. rescues cute blonde child's kitty from tree (with photos!)." About the only place it shows up is the Police Blotter and that's more about the local P.D.'s racism than the paper.
