As much as I like academia, I do not want my daughter to live through a dystopian fascist state that affords social theorists decades of doctoral theses, and future historians thousands of pages of cautionary social archaeology.

We already have quite enough experience with the Peloponnesian War and the Weimar Republic to demonstrate that advanced, literate democratic societies can fall of their own stupidity. We don't need Lesson 3, this time with Nukes.

And I know, the Chinese will be fine, but I kinda like the idea of a free society informed by western liberalism. I mean, Jesus F-ck, people? What does it take to give partisanship a rest for one election, to save the entire western post-16th century humanist experiment? You're gonna trade that for magic beans? Srsly?

He's an authoritarian by his very nature. Should it be surprising that those charged with supporting law and order would support such a candidate?

Hardly a surprise. The FOP is not a typical union though. They don't have any sort of robust GOTV history in national politics, and they're not exactly coordinating their effort with any other notable labor union. If Clinton was going to win, all other factors being equal this wasn't going to count for much. Of course all other factors are not equal, among them especially we're a nation of idiots and deplorables. Hillary was right, it just turns out she vastly underestimated just how deplorable so many of us are. Who knew there were so many old white men in the United States, huh?

For those of you who fear a Trump presidency as much as I do, my address in Ohio is yours for the asking if you live in a state where your vote would be wasted. Registration deadline is October 11th. :D

Johnson knows he isn't going to win. I doubt he believes half of the libertarian bull **** he says (and it is bull **** that no sane person would actually believe). He's saying it because running on the libertarian ticket every 4 years is his new career.

I agree that Johnson and Weld likely not believe a lot of the more extreme libertarian stuff. That being said I do believe they are in general fiscally conservative and socially liberal / tolerant…. which pretty much is how I feel. In a year where the two major candidates are truly awful, I figure why not?

I've actually never gone 3rd party before, but in a year where the candidates the major parties are presenting us are truly awful, it makes one look other places.

As far as voting for Johnson if he were a republican, it would of course depend on who he is running against correct? I did actually vote for Weld here in MA every time that I had the opportunity to when he was running as a Repblican, and if Johnson / Weld were the Republican ticket (maintaining their current positions) I would certainly vote for them over Hillary. Of course to get the Republican nomination they would have had to go way too far right on social issues which would make me much less likely to vote for them.

That being said, here in MA it really won't matter who I vote for anyway.

Kellyanne Conway of the Drumpf Campaign was on Maher tonight...apparently she cant support Clinton cause she is a liar and knows what she stands for despite the fact that Hillary never talks about what she stands for. When Maher talked about all the lies Drumpf has told she talked about how the people believe Hillary is dishonest. You really should all watch it is amazing how many words are used to say so ****ed little...

I'll give her credit for going on Maher's show multiple times and keeping her cool, even though she's completely wrong and just recites the same empty-headed talking points. Any conservative spokesmodel who joins his panel knows they're going to get blasted by at least 3 raging liberals. I don't think I could stand to sit at that table for more than 15 minutes, despite agreeing with the liberal position about 60% of the time.

Well she has been going on the show for 20 years...she knows it is a game just like any faux issues show. He is a lot nicer to her than CNN and few others are who just show video of her lies to her face and expect her to defend them.

Not to be nitpicky, but it's actually been 30 years since she was labeled a "congenital liar" in the New York Times

My, how time flies.

I'd say that she hasn't changed her methodology much, and the same types of things that got her in trouble then are the same types of things that get her in trouble now.

Or I guess it might be that it's just 30 years of the Vast Right Wing Conspiracy causing all her problems.
