Said be every generation for just about forever.
I don't believe these types of stayed home as much as you'd think. I'm sure they'd strongly self-identify as patriots first and it's their duty to make it to the booth.

Yeah, I don't know why she allowed herself to do that. She could have gotten away with pointing out that hate groups have gotten behind Trump and left it there.

She has done that before. Maybe she thought she could move the needle a little more this way. I'm torn over the comments. On the one hand, she is correct (actually she undersells it) but on the other hand she loses this kind of a fight because of the personalities of the general Clinton supporter versus those of the Trump supporter. Clinton voters to a greater extent want substance over style. Trump supporters are like middle school boys discovering their first nudie books or the fact that farts are flammable.
I do find it curious that she immediately dialed back the comments a bit. Not a common occurrence in a political campaign. Of course Trump's mouth breathers see apology as weakness and not thoughtful reflection or growth.

I highly doubt it'll make quite the splash as Romney's 47% comment, but it could be seen as something much worse, pretty much calling roughly 25% of Americans vile creatures. It doesn't really make her look like she'd be a president for everyone (the retort thrown at Romney, if anyone cares to remember).

We've left behind the concept of a "president for everyone." This nation is drowning in a sea of partisanship. Whoever votes for the loser will not accept the president as "their" president. How about this. In the short run it's not great because it is petty. But now every time Trump whines about it, people will think "well, you know, it is kinda true..."
So now Trump will cut his own throat every time he brings it up (which he will incessantly because that's his game: project your own nastiness onto your opponent). And of course whenever Trump slanders, threatens, or demonizes a group, it makes it worse for him.

We've been here before. Partisanship in the 19th century was sometimes worse. It gets very bad when we are reaching a turning point, especially socially.
Hitherto, a non-trivial segment of the population has unconsciously believed that American values of equality are something they allowed or gifted to the rest, and which if they wanted to they could withdraw. Now they're realizing that's not true, and that our values mean what they say. Men are ACTUALLY merely equal to women, whether men "allow" it or not. Likewise for whites, European descendants, English speakers, and especially Christians.
They always thought they owned the country and the rest were allowed to participate by their suffrage. They were wrong: American values are what matter, the other dominance orders were historical accidents which are quickly being wiped out. This REALLY p-sses off poor white Christian males, because they are coming face to face with their low status. They used to be insulated from their poverty and hopelessness because they were higher than whole groups of others by sheer historical momentum. They no longer are. And by their own hierarchical value system, they're losers.
"I don't recognize my country" means "I used to be able to say I was better than other people just by virtue of my color or sex or faith, but now I can't. I want my old status back."
The irony is, that status was always a lie. The wealthy have always had all the real power. Those "privileges" were empty, and just maintained by the actual ruling class to keep the huddled masses of poor whites in line. This might be the healthiest thing that's ever happened to our white rural underclass in the long run, since they are very slowly starting to realize who their real oppressor is.
Hint: it aint blacks or immigrants.

The only people that will vilify Clinton for what she said are going to be the people who disagree with her...and they wont vote for her anyways.
She probably should not have said it, but it isnt going to hurt her...plus it has the added effect of acting as total troll bait.

While I dont think this is a big deal, the woman needs to stop giving the other side so much free ammo. Someone needs to be telling her how bad this is going to look when the press isnt exactly on her side anyways.
