Re: Campaign 2016 Part XIV: Just Dropped in (To See What Condition My Convention Was

No question wall street played a role. But the fact the we were seeing huge numbers of defaults on these loans was just as important.

You need to see or read The Big Short. Until then refrain from comments.

Your article on Reagan is from 1991, 3 years after his Presidency and in the middle of full on Alzheimer's disease. There's no way he wrote that article and I question if he even knew what was written in his name.

Home loan defaults affected everyone, not just low income minorities. Greed and a fundamental misreading of the potential for a real estate crash caused the recession. It wasn't just "Wall St" as Countrywide and AIG aren't investment banks. It was people whether they be white as a ghost, Hispanic or whatever living beyond their means, and mortgage brokers writing mortgages to them under the guise that there'd be no risk to them if they defaulted. BTW - What time are you speaking tonight at the convention?

Moving on, I think Roger Ailes just became Kep's public enemy #1 after this Megyn Kelly revelation.

https://politicalwire.com/2016/07/19/kelly-says-ailes-sexually-harassed-her-too/

True dat. My in laws sold their 3 br 1.5 ba home to an Hispanic family for $400K at the height of the craze.. They defaulted within months and the home eventually went for $165K.

But what the heck. The real estate agent got her commission, tbe loan officer got his fee and whomever held the mortgage was SOL. Looking back, it was all a scam by the loan officer and the agent to get theirs while screwing somebody else.

More ponies!

Sean Spicer, the Republican National Committee’s chief strategist, cited the popular animated series My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic as proof that would-be first lady Melania Trump’s primetime speech before the Republican National Convention last night did not feature paragraphs plagiarized from first lady Michelle Obama’s 2008 speech before the Democratic National Convention.

...

“Melania Trump said ‘the strength of your dreams and willingness to work for them,’” Spicer explained. “Twilight Sparkle from My Little Pony said, ‘this is your dream - anything you can do in your dreams, you can do now.’”

Talk about desperate...

Re: Campaign 2016 Part XIV: Just Dropped in (To See What Condition My Convention Was

The Big Lebowski is a far better requirement.
And a better movie.

I'm not exonerating wall street by any means. The nonsense that they perpetrated took a financial crisis and supercharged it.

But there is no question that one of the key events eight years ago was the proliferation of all of these sub-prime, adjustable rate mortgages that were encouraged, at least in part, by the Clinton administrations push years earlier to make it easier (i.e., less oversight) to get these loans. When home values stopped going up and people couldn't continue to kick the can down the road, the first domino fell and the rest is history.

If you choose not to decide you still have made a choice

Re: Campaign 2016 Part XIV: Just Dropped in (To See What Condition My Convention Was

They used a private email server not under control of the federal government and it turns out they had classified information on it. And the Bush administration "lost" approximately 30 million emails.

bbbbut that's different!!

She's a liar. That's all they've got.

It's funny they claim she's a liar yet at least 3 sources indicate Trump is running the least honest campaign of all the major candidates while Hillary's honesty meter as at the top.

I understand a lot of the "honesty' factor stems from all the people she's killed and the dozens of 'gates' she conspired to cover up, but well then there's nothing quite like collecting data to prove your theory and ignoring the actual results.

Oh, I agree. He never stops lying. It's a constant stream coming out of his mouth. But, they think Hillary should be in Jail for Benghazi. They had signs saying Hillary for Prison.

Blaming GSE isn't correct- part of the issue, sure, but more private loans that were not part of GSE defaulted. Worse was bundling these bad loans into "good bonds"- which never really let anyone know that these bad loans were out there.

Housing prices freezing had more to to with people scamming the system than poor people flooding the market getting starter homes.

Adjustable rate and sub prime loans are not the same as the GSE policy.

Re: Campaign 2016 Part XIV: Just Dropped in (To See What Condition My Convention Was

Reagan.

BS on the home loan issue.

No question wall street played a role. But the fact the we were seeing huge numbers of defaults on these loans was just as important.

It's nowhere close to b.s. The pieces that went into the housing collapse went 100x beyond Fed involvement in promoting mortgages to every Tom, Dick and Harry. Copied from a previous post:

The following led to the housing collapse: large inflows of foreign funds for years leading up to the collapse, the increase in loan incentives that encouraged borrowers (whom never should have bought in the first place) to believe they would be able to quickly refinance at more favorable terms later on, automated underwriting practices which didn't adequately analyze the ability of borrowers to repay, the inability of buyers to make their mortgage payments (due primarily to adjustable-rate mortgages resetting, borrowers overextending to mortgages more than 4x their annual income, the jobs market, predatory lending, and speculation), overbuilding during the boom period, risky mortgage products, self-regulating by banks, high personal and corporate debt levels (Americans were saving less than ever before in hour history during this time period and household debt skyrocketed), financial products that distributed and perhaps concealed the risk of mortgage default, bad monetary and housing policies, international trade imbalances, and inappropriate government regulation. Facts are lenders made loans that they knew borrowers could not afford. Christ, Google "Financial Crisis Inquiry Commission" for fun. Their findings will affirm that CRAs and F/F (i.e. the Feds) were not a significant factor in subprime lending nor the crisis.

I'm no economist, but I think you are right.

On the other hand, many on the right decry federal regulation on one hand and yet blame the government for the banking crisis/scandal on the other. With passion and without hesitation.

I know it's fun to compare the two main candidates but just because Trump sucks doesn't mean Hillary is suddenly great. It's like watching a Superbowl between the '76 Bucs and the 2008 Lions. Yes, one team technically sucked more than the other but the real losers are those of us that have to watch.

People can still claim Hillary is a liar and your sources show it's a deserved term for her.

How about we get someone who doesn't lie to the people and actually makes people WANT to vote for a candidate instead of against another.

Re: Campaign 2016 Part XIV: Just Dropped in (To See What Condition My Convention Was

She's a liar. That's all they've got.
And that is enough for me. It's disappointing that it isn't enough for all.
Don't those sources show the liar label is undeserved for her?
No. It shows she lies less than tDonald. If you shoot only one person and I shoot two, does that mean you're not a murderer anymore?

The Republicans preprint "(blank) for Prison!" ten years in advance of a nomination and just fill in the blank with whoever has the (D). It's all they've got. Their party is intellectually and morally bankrupt and all they can do is screech at the other party.
