Re: Campaign 2016 Part XIV: Just Dropped in (To See What Condition My Convention Was

This would be a whole lotta fun.

Condi! Condi! Condi!

< pass the popcorn >

Considering her good friendship with the previous President, I think she would have been a great possibility had Jed won.

As for now, and Trump- it's been 8 years since she's been front and center. Wonder how many people really remember her?

And she's not constantly being brought up in some scandal for us to remember, too. One think the e-mail thing has done for Clinton is to never let us forget her.

@WTOP: CBS: #Trump picks Indiana Gov. Mike Pence for running mate. http://bit.ly/1WYICbf
------
@dick_nixon: Pence is the fool Trump deserves.

That doesn't matter too much anymore post-Kennedy. Romney was a Mormon and that didn't cost him the Presidency either. Plus GWB and Carter were God-fearin' men who had very difficult Presidencies to say the least. People just don't participate in organized religion enough for that to be decisive anymore.

Except you still have to be nominally religious, and preferably judeo-Christian. I'm with Kepler, I don't see an open atheist getting elected in the next 50 years.

You kidding? Obama was more white that Bill Clinton could ever hope to be.

Tell that to the people who spent months upon months trying to convince the world he was Kenyan...

(including Drumpf)

Starting in 2003, Keith Ellison is Muslim and has been a great Minneapolis congressman. I believe people mis-assign belief in an entity as the trait for strong candidacy. I think voters are really just looking for a candidate that lives by a discernible code.

Surprisingly not news at this point. But is the Tim Kaine of the GOP. Boring governor that is low risk and has some perceived geographic benefits (don't think that will matter one bit in Pence's case).

Pence is insurance against #nevertrump. Being as exciting as a subcommittee appropriations debate helps normalize Trump and takes the wind out of the sails of people accusing him of being a pinwheel-eyed madman. It also gives people with concerns somewhere to go to get them assuaged (since Trump himself doesn't help his cause).

I'm sure Pence is telling them "Don't worry, I've got this. We'll give Trump the title of President and let him fly around in Air Force One, while we run the government. And if anything goes wrong, he gets the blame."

I understand that a there is general level of distrust out there that existed well before the email issue and that she has little to none of the rapport generating talents Bill had.

But are those not two pretty big things that would help to define a good candidate? The ability to speak and inspire people to go out and vote for them?

Can Hillary win the "candidate I'd most like to grab a beer with" vote against.... well, against almost anyone?

Dang, that's roughly what Delaware Joe told his crew eight years ago. ;)

Then we should be very afraid by this pick. Especially if it juices up the GOP turnout. Newt and Christie were not going to do that.
