Campaign 2016 Part XIII: Clinton destrueretur est. Trump est destruetur. Vox Populi!

Either Trump's campaign is so stupid they can't fill out a form correctly, or there is embezzlement openly taking place.

Using the government rate of 57.5 cents a mile for 2015, that would come out to 413,139.7 miles of personal vehicle use for work being reimbursed. Or, those 82 people have driven their personal vehicles an average of 5,038.3 miles for the Trump campaign in the last year.

Yes, I am aware the government rate for mileage dropped for 2016 to 54.0 cents per mile. Which means the average mileage per person is HIGHER.

That's what you get for either giving to a campaign or worse yet, allowing federal matching funds.

... But go ahead, you guys want her, put her in charge.
Because Trump is the alternative. There is no alternate universe where Gary Johnson is a legitimate contender for the White House.

It's not a problem if you cap campaign spending. Give each nominee from a party that took at least 10% of the vote in that office in the prior election $250 million for prez ($50M for the Senate, $20M for the House, etc...) All campaign expenditures must be recorded and come from these funds. No other funding sources are allowed. Campaigning must be from the nominee -- all other ads are embargoed. Use the money well. And... begin!

After catching up here I am now ready to accept bets on which campaign will use the following phrase first:

Not Illegal, Just Incompetent

Odds will be posted later

Re: Campaign 2016 Part XIII: Clinton destrueretur est. Trump est destruetur. Vox Pop

Paul Ryan is a 46-year old man who still believes in Randian economics and philosophy which appeal to a 16-year old boy. It's not that he's dumb, exactly. It's more that he and his entire movement were prematurely stunted and live as lifelong adolescents.

I can respect Ryan's candor, at least. I agree that Ayn Rand acolytes are just flat out wrong in almost everything they believe*, but at least Ryan puts on enough airs to convince you that he respects the integrity of the system and would prefer to keep the election to the issues instead of the three ring circus it's become. If I wasn't so against much of what he stands for, I'd wish he was running for president.

* Namely that this seems to be their thought process: "My successes are because of my unparalleled genius!" "Your successes are because of wasteful handouts!" "My failures are because of people holding me back!" "Your failures are because you are lazy!"

Basically, she wanted it so that her government communications were under her and only her control, in which case why would anyone ever trust her. But go ahead, you guys want her, put her in charge.

It's a sad state of affairs that Johnson won't likely get enough of a pop to be a major player. I consider myself a moderate, but not in a way that makes me a libertarian (although I'd be more inclined if the overlap of "libertarians" and "people who think incremental tax rates are the devil" weren't so large)... but he's the only one really worth taking seriously at this point.

I want him in the debates. His side is sane and should be heard from.

I have often thought that an America where the two major parties are Socialists and Libertarians would be far preferable to what we have today. The D/R parties are misaligned from where most Americans are.

I can respect Ryan's candor, at least.

Although I agree with much of what you say, Ryan explicitly cut himself off from candor when he accepted the Speaker spot. At that point he took on a sort of fiduciary responsibility to his party that makes him, among other things, unable to refuse to support Trump as the nominee.

With that action I believe he lost whatever pretensions he might have had to being an honest dealer.

If he were to resign his Speakership and then say "I cannot in good conscience support this Tapioca Nazi," he would have taken back his balls.

Re: Campaign 2016 Part XIII: Clinton destrueretur est. Trump est destruetur. Vox Pop

She screwed up at best due to ignorance. Ignorance does not exclude you from punishment from the law. The FBI openly chided her for being grossly incompetent about this issue. And no charges. And THIS is ONE of the presidential candidates? Oh have no worry, the other candidate makes for a great state fair carny. Whee.

Major BS in this Hillary case. I mention the slickster salesman only to show that I have no witchhunt in my opinion. What Hillary did SHOULD be prosecuted. This is embarrassing.

So then you would want Bush and his cronies in jail for this right? I mean leaking the name of operatives is ten times worse than what Hillary did and you know it. I hate Hillary as much as the next guy but this BS being spewed by talk radio and the morons on Facebook needs to end and fast. Or do you really believe Obama is going to run for a 3rd term and steal all your guns too

Two weeks ago I put 1200 miles on a rental car that I picked up on a Monday at 10:00 and returned on Wednesday at 21:00. I made four major and two minor customer visits.

A whole 5000 miles in a year? Amateurs. That's nothing.

Seriously? Seriously?
http://thesmokinggun.com/documents/stupid/dnc-rnc-plan-645391

The Democratic Party’s plan to crash this month’s Republican National Convention is heavy on gimmicks and stunts meant to highlight a possible “Trumpocalypse,” as well as to ridicule the presumptive GOP candidate’s purported spray tan, tiny fingers, and dog whistle proclivities.

So they'll go after Trump for small fingers and spray tans? Why not policy? Why go to the Trumpian tactics if you're so much better? < sigh >

PS - I love GussDos. I wonder when (s)he'll start leaking the 110 email chains. :D

Re: Campaign 2016 Part XIII: Clinton destrueretur est. Trump est destruetur. Vox Pop

Ya know, GOP hearings regarding Clinton never seem to go well for them. Could it be Paul Ryan is really just a dumbfuk after all?

You seriously need to ask that question?

C'mon. Everyone knew she was a covert CIA operative. Everyone.

Rand concepts and her supporters are anywhere between horrible and annoying. Much of that is due to style rather than substance. I vote D all the time...but there's nothing wrong with rewarding productive executives who earn it, making sure that transfer payments are tied to incentives and progress, reduced business regulation, and that we motivate and encourage those less fortunate to go improve their lives. Its when we turn that into accusatory, inflamatory and elitist that the Rand approach becomes terribly counter productive.

Re: Campaign 2016 Part XIII: Clinton destrueretur est. Trump est destruetur. Vox Pop

The most effective way the DNC can mock the GOP Convention is to let it proceed exactly as Trump plans. Don't go near it. Don't corner a frightened, dying animal.

Your tax dollars go to corporate welfare now because of bribery.

You can either pay 1% of your taxes for public financing of elections and get the other 99% back in public goods, or not pay the 1% and lose all the rest of the 99% to the 1%'s rapine.

Your choice.

If he were to ... say "I cannot in good conscience support this Tapioca Nazi," he would have taken back his balls.

He has probably gone further down that road than almost any major player in the GOP, hasn't he? It's one of the reasons I can respect him as much as my conscience allows.

I get your point...but that is a hard one to defend. The country is really made up of 4 segments - 1) blue collar whites/minorites 2) educated and progressive dems 3) fiscal conservatives (include most libertarians) 4) social and patriotic conservatives.

Right now the D party is trying to house the first two...and the GOP the second two. They're not doing a perfect job, but the best they can. One could argue we could have four parties doing this...but I'd believe that there'd have to be some major adjustments to the other parties and the socialist party just doesn't really fit.

Paying tribute to people in power has been going on a lot longer than the need to raise hundreds of millions for tv ads. Capping the spending, or even reorganizing it so that the money comes from payments through the government won't even remotely harm the "cash for influence" system that is inherent in any system in which people are granted the power to mess with other people's lives. And the thing is, it's not even unique to representative democracies. It occurs in dictatorships as well.

Someone has to be in power, and those that aren't want to influence those that are, whether it's for financial gain or to simply be left alive.
