Campaign 2016 - It's never too late to start all over again!

Oh, I'm well aware that commerce departments are the ones pushing for the bids to be made in order to bring more attention to the country. It will be a long time before FIFA dies off.

I suspect it's simpler than that. Rich people on both sides cut deals to move massive amounts of public funding into their own pockets. The event itself is only a pretext -- its moneymaking power is the power that allows the grifters to roll over any regulatory or legal opposition.

It's usually also on the hush-hush, in order for them to be able to continue to do it. They're only getting exposed now, and of course the common excuse of "it was required last time" is used.

As a matter of protest, I will not watch a single FIFA game from here on out.

...yet there'll still be 109,999,999 who will watch it. I doubt they're worried. The bottler around here will still punch out product.

I wouldn't be surprised if they managed to hide some of their language in the big multi-national trade deals. Create an international court with the power to override local environmental or labor laws as "violating free trade."

The day can't come soon enough when we erect the guillotines again.

My reply was more inline with a joke than any true protest. I've never watched a single FIFA game before in my life.

24 hour trial AND execution. Plenty of innocents will be victim.

Me either but I'm joining the cause. Down with the MAN. Power to the people

Today in Republicanism:

Alabama Chief Justice Roy Moore spoke with Family Research Council President Tony Perkins on Friday about his belief that states should “resist” a potential Supreme Court ruling on marriage equality, saying that Congress and the states should simply defy a court decision they disagree with by stating “that there is no right to redefine marriage” in the U.S. Constitution.

“We have justices on the Supreme Court right now who have actually performed same-sex marriages, Ginsburg and Kagan,” Moore continued. “Congress should do something about this.”

He said that if Justice Ginsburg does not recuse herself from the case, then Congress should commence impeachment proceedings.

“This is undermining the rule of law in our country and ushers in an age of chaos,” Perkins added.

Ignoring the tide of history...

I wonder if Moore can be criminally charged? Can you use your position as a judge to openly defy a SCOTUS ruling and coerce others to do so as well?

If Obama can get away with being President despite being born in Kenya, this judge can get away with it. If you want to push for impeachment, move to Alabama and hope you don't run into some good ol' boys.

I like that the extension on the link is ".dpuf" for a marriage eqaulity story. It just strikes me as funny. :)

That guy is going to be cheered in his home state, and reviled most everywhere else outside of Mississippi. His biggest failure of comprehension when calling for impeachment lies in the fact that Ginsburg and Kagan performed these ceremonies in accordance with the laws of the states and municipalities in which they were conducted, so it's not like they were advocating an unsettled position outside of the courts.

I wouldn't think so, though perhaps he could be impeached. Hopefully, though, he wouldn't be. As insane as this particular muthafcka is, legislative impeachment of justices should be VERY sparing. Talk about a power rife for abuse.

Who willingly moves to Alabama? You've gotta be a total idiot. Didn't you see My Cousin Vinny?

However, I wouldn't be so quick to dismiss criminal behavior here. If you're trying to follow a federal law, and your boss forces you to disregard it, where does it end? What if Moore decides blacks and whites can't marry either, if he's disregarding SCOTUS rulings, and thus forces state judges to not recognize that? Do you truly rely on his own state to impeach him over federal law as the only remedy???

If he isn't a federal judge, you pretty much have to do it at the state level. Welcome to the 10th amendment, although I know how much you loonies don't like the Constitution when it doesn't apply to your agenda.

Sorry, but you don't get to disregard federal law just because you feel like it. If Flaggy wants to reinstitute slavery, and he lives in a place where the majority feel that way, you can't actually start keeping slaves regardless of whether or not state officials want to hold you to account.

Big difference: Slavery's called out in the Constitution. 13th amendment. Marriage isn't.

Not really. A SCOTUS ruling is the law of the land. So again, if Roy Moore doesn't want interracial marriage, he doesn't get to ban them in Alabama. If everybody insists on denying people a SCOTUS granted right (gay marriage) I would assume he could be charged with violating these people's civil rights - a federal offense.
