Campaign 2016 -- Don't Let the Perfect Become the Enemy of the Good

Re: Campaign 2016 -- Don't Let the Perfect Become the Enemy of the Good

The giant flushing whirlpool of American politics just turns faster and faster. SOMEONE has to quit pandering and show actual conservative leadership. That person (who apparently hasn't been born) could do great things.

They've been born; they're probably even in college now. Intelligent conservatism will come back with a vengeance. All that's needed is for the current Know Nothing version to lose badly. If the GOP went down hard in both 2016 and then a midterm 2018, they would HAVE to evolve, and I'm certain there are young, interesting, intellectual conservatives right now developing the next version of American conservatism -- one that might even be worth a try.

Modern parties don't go down in flames, so as much as the GOP is trying to, they'll be redeemed eventually. It will take an exorcism to get rid of the psychos running their show now, but it will happen.

It doesn't seem right that a limp-wristed, pencil neck, artsy fartsy liberal is expressing more optimism than I can about the Republican Party(TM). But thank you for the ray of hope.

You forgot "woolly headed." :p

Speaking of gratuitous cliched insults, has anyone heard from Old Pio and/or Priceless lately? I worry a little.

And latte sipping. ;)

No doubt he's also a duck scrubber and granola muncher.
I know Limbaugh's brand of entertainment is much disparaged around here, but he has a wonderful way of insulting people: "The Dems are a bunch of phoney baloney, plastic banana, good time rock & rollers" that cuts to the heart of Washington's Executive fecklessness.

Priceless had a diva moment, announced to everyone he was leaving, blamed it on us all for not helping make his life less stressful (he does have some med issues a few people around here knew about that would be very stressful), and then deleted his account.

OldPio just left. He's had a couple posts every so often, but he just disappeared. It happens.

Quote from a high school friend of mine regarding this season's Republican gamut. He has ambitions of being a Senator someday, and involved himself in the Republican Party as far back as our junior year, then got his double major in Econ and PolySci from Michigan State, and Master's in Econ from Pur-don't. He'e finishing up his PhD in West Layfette now.

First, I liked Chris Christie until his campaign imploded. Then, I was supporting Walker until he attacked professorial tenure in the name of fiscal responsibility. Higher ed costs are rising due to administrative costs, not faculty salaries. I then was leaning towards Rubio, until I saw that he holds the worst attendance record in the Senate. So now, I guess I am left with Kasich.

Conclusion: "I support whoever is nominated." :p

He's a (mostly) good guy. I think many of them are lost and looking for the next Reagan. As for him specifically, while I hate to think he'll end up a Wall Street lobbyist and slowly lose his soul, I wouldn't doubt it.

Prior to the 2008 campaign, both Obama and McCain were absent from the floor a good deal of time. Unfortunately, John got a note from his State and was let back in.

Obama? He got promoted.

Do you have a better plan? As Scoob says, it could be worse: we know it could because it was from 1980-92 and 2000-08. Or to put it another way:

Yeah not selling out. I dont count anyways so I will stick to not supporting a fraud. Just dont whine in a couple years (and you will and we know Scooby will) when she completely sells you out and stabs you in the back because you have no one to blame but yourself. I learned my lesson with Obama...

George Carlin said:
I don't vote. Two reasons. First of all it's meaningless; this country was bought and sold a long time ago. The **** they shovel around every 4 years *pfff* doesn't mean a ***ing thing. Secondly, I believe if you vote, you have no right to complain. People like to twist that around – they say, 'If you don't vote, you have no right to complain', but where's the logic in that? If you vote and you elect dishonest, incompetent people into office who screw everything up, you are responsible for what they have done. You caused the problem; you voted them in; you have no right to complain. I, on the other hand, who did not vote, who in fact did not even leave the house on election day, am in no way responsible for what these people have done and have every right to complain about the mess you created that I had nothing to do with.

Because I don't give enough of a **** to waste my time with details, the simple fact is that your friend is an idiot. Is he related to Red Cloud, by chance?

What Kepler predicts is quite accurate, but it isn't going to come from your anecdotal acquaintance.

Red Cloud...I remember that guy! He was a fun troll sometimes :D

Pio could be a fun troll, because he'd get tripped up by his own impotent rage and rant uncontrollably. It was also possible to have an intelligent non-political conversation with Pio.

Red Cloud was just a rancid bigot. He wasn't even a troll. That guy? Fvck that guy.

Re: Campaign 2016 -- Don't Let the Perfect Become the Enemy of the Good

Oh come on, he put all that work into breaking down the top 20 candidates for the GOP nod a few years back :D

Kep,

Did you see Bernie on Real Time...man I love him! Best part of the show though (may have been on overtime) was Ann Coulter and the weirdo from the Daily Beast fighting over how Rubio. Apparently AC supports Romney/Walker and says the GOP should ignore Latinos and Blacks and try and get all the whites they can. She also said Bernie is the best candidate for the Dems cause Hillary is a Chamber of Commerce sellout...the acrimony on the panel was awesome!! (especially the Latino Congressmen attacking her over her new book)

You're right, but you could be a bit less of a dick about it. ;)

And he's not even a college hockey fan, so no, he's not related to RC.

Re: Campaign 2016 -- Don't Let the Perfect Become the Enemy of the Good

Spineless cowards.

“We should let the people of South Carolina go through the process of making this decision."

As if the question asked were, "Do you think Obama should order Federal troops to forcibly remove the flag?"

No, numbnuts, the question is, "What decision do you think the people of South Carolina ought to reach?" And that question is as relevant as heck.

Re: Campaign 2016 -- Don't Let the Perfect Become the Enemy of the Good

Everything coming out of faux news relating to SC is rage inducing. But you know, the 'liberal' news sources are "just as bad".
