What's your problem? I don't get what? You aren't making much sense here. I merely said I was ok with a voter ID card of some sort. Now if you said I didn't get it and then commented on what I said, that would make some sense at least.

I was being sarcastic.

Re: Campaign 2014: The Epic Struggle To Win The Senate And Change Nothing

This was covered in PA before the 2012 election. PA passed an ID law the year of the election, but said they're free if you go down to the DMV. Problem solved, right? Wrong. If you've ever been to the DMW, you'd know what came next. Hours long lines for people trying to hit the registry during lunch break because they aren't open on weekends. Who controls DMV staffing and hours of operation? That's right - the same people who passed the ID law! Pretty convenient, especially after passage the law's leading proponent declared that this would ensure Romney won the state. Oh, this guy was the GOP House Speaker I believe.

Ummm...who cares? 1) we haven't heard about it, 2) The Onion covered this back in 1996, when it sent out campaign checks from fake orgs like Pedophiles for Perot or Illegals for Buchanan. In fact I thnk Pitchfork Pat was the only one to reject the check, most likely because he got so little contributions he was depositing them himself.

You're breaking my heart. Extended hours at DMV? Fine by me. Issue ID's at high population locations other than DMV offices? Again, fine by me. Remind me again why Dems passed Motor Voter, since according to you navigating the DMV (for black folks and nobody else) is like the Bataan death march. The lead plaintiff in the initial law suit against the Pennsylvania law (a lady in her 90s who had some serious identity problems dating back decades) after the initial court decision upholding the law, toddled on down to the DMV and got a state ID, no sweat. You'll have to do better to explain these unique problems black folks are supposed to have dealing the DMV. As I say, one possible solution would be to allow photos on Social Security cards for those who want them. But you'd be against that, too, wouldn't you? Don't want anything to impede that Niagara of inner city voters on election day do you? Because you think it helps you win.

He'll be even more hilarious when the derps elect him governor.

(And his successor will probably take the derp to 11 too.)

Maybe that classless lefty b*tch can run some more TV spots about his handicap. That ought to help her break 40%.

C'mon. Old Pio knows none of those people have jobs, so the DMV being open on weekends is irrelevant. Geeesh.

Funny, in Florida, you can make an appointment at the DMV. In less than half an hour I got a plate, title, license and registration. But somehow, black folks and only black folks, are inconvenienced enough by the hours and locations of DMV offices they can be excused of any requirement that they actually show up there to conduct their business. Just how condescending and racist can you guys get? Why not just be honest about it? You like that tsunami of inner city votes on election day and don't want any reform that would potentially diminish its impact.

If your locale is offering free IDs for the purposes of registering to vote, I call BS that DMV hours are a major hindrance. Get it done for cripes sake. You've never waited in line until you've tried to get a driver's license or tax ID in SE Asia. Suck it up buttercup.

Bertolt Brecht The Solution (East German)

After the uprising of June 17th
The Secretary of the Authors' Union
Had leaflets distributed in the Stalinallee
Which said that the people
Had forfeited the government's confidence
And could only win it back
By redoubled labour. Wouldn't it
Be simpler in that case if the government
Dissolved the people and
Elected another?

Opie, allow me to diagnose your real problem here, and we can settle up the bill at a later date.

You're all butt hurt still because voter supression was supposed to throw the election to Mittens, and instead the race had been called even before lights out at your nursing home for Obama. Then you had to deal with smart a ss liberals making fun of you for months. So, you delve into racial stereotypes that most people thought had been gone for like two generations. If you and your dying ideology really cared about the twin goals of proper ID plus not making that too burdensome, why not have the DMV open on nights and weekends for a short stretch of time in the fall lets say for the expressed purpose of getting people the proper indentification? Why did Pennsylvania Republicans not bother to do so? A question I don't expect you to have the stones to answer, but I'll put it to you anyway as I do enjoy putting you on the spot. :D

Calling for the military to take up arms against our domestic enemy (the President) is not wishing ill will? That is beyond derp that is just flat out ignorance.

people like that are why the conservatives as screwed. Social Media has shined a light on the crazies and given them a pulpit and now the minority that were once the punch line at parties are front and center for the world to see.

It's so telling that she would feel comfortable enough to post it. That makes it likely she's so surrounded by it that she didn't even feel the need to speak in RNC code. It's pervasive among the hillbillies here; out in the sticks it must be insane.

Sunlight is the best disinfectant. The internet is really scary in that it shows the extent of the plague, but in the long run it helps. The more these people talk, the more they drive humans with functioning brain cells from them. Social media has made it much harder for the GOP to speak out of both sides of their mouths, whipping up the nutbars while disavowing them to the mainstream.

Yeah but there is a negative byproduct too...now the crazies can find like-minded people by the thousands and organize.

Lets be honest, it doesnt change anything. There is a reason why guys like Scott DeJarlais, a Pro Life Tea Party fundy gets elected despite having an affair with a patient, knocking her up and having her get an abortion.

There have been novels written about such a subject. I shudder to think that somebody thinks it's necessary.

True. Anders Breivik was partly inspired by anti-immigration screeds by American fundamentalists.

I am an optimist (albeit in a tangential way), but I choose to believe that the depths of the Great Recession, with all the Obama hatred and immigrant hatred and fundy zealotry here, and all the Neo-Nazi crap in Europe, was Peak Derp. The brownshirts are always there, under the surface, waiting for popular discontent so they can blame minorities or intellectuals or social liberals, but we may have weathered it this time. Nobody (and this utterly amazes me) has gotten off a shot at Obama. Breivik was horrendous, obviously, and shows what these guys are capable of, but it was a single incident, not a mass movement. There are Nazis in the Greek legislature and UKIP in Parliament, but they aren't the majority party.

And that was a bad world financial crisis, and it came right at the heart (not coincidentally) of an atrocious war motivated in basic ways by the dumbest religious fanaticism on both sides, and in other ways by economic elites fattening their bank accounts.

It could always unravel at any time, of course -- it always can -- but if you looked at the risk factors for a lunatic far right junta seizing power in one or more western democracies, the 2002-08 period scored high across the board. They even had legions of Father Coughlins dominating the air waves, and still it didn't happen. We could have had a repeat of the 1930s, but there were just too many educated and tolerant people who beat them back. Maybe Democracy has adapted a new part of its immune system. Maybe the US in particular is growing diverse enough that the old product "quick to judge, quick to anger, slow to understand" just won't sell here anymore.
