To be fair, holier than thou, slack-jawed flyovers circle jerking about their Heartland moral superiority is a shade worse.

The NYT is Fin de Siècle Vienna hysterical heiresses. People who reflexively hate the NYT are a Christian Romance Novel convention in Iowa.

Kill them both.

No the worst of the worst of this shiat is Omaha's Knights of Aksarben. It's just farking creepy. It honors the local hoity toity every year, by picking some 60-year old philanthropist as king and then an 18-20 year-old daughter of another family as queen, and then dress them up in fake royal garb, complete with a court of lesser royalty which are again sons and daughters of other families.

I don't care how much it raises for charity; that thing needs to go the way of the dodo.

Pics or GTFO.

In all honesty this sounds like a Vonnegut scene. Glorious Middle American shlock.

Most of them arent East Coast Liberals as you think of them. As someone who hates the Times I thought the article was quite good. I think unofan is being harsh.

The article is basically about trust fund kids giving up their trust funds and funding social programs. Not the usual "I want to make it look like I care" stuff either. If that is bad then what the hell are we actually fighting for?

mookie didn't read that even a majority gave them up there.... why one even gives away 10,000 a year to over 500 charities!!!!!! (rolleyes rolleyes)

after all, what did michelle yoh say in her last line of crazy rich asians?? "only a fool throws in a winning hand"

The Bipartisan Stimulus being presented is a friggin disaster. $908 billion...a third of which goes to PPP because that worked so well. No stimulus payments for households but unemployment insurance was beefed up.

Any Dem that votes for this can DIAF. This won't fix anything. Businesses will game PPP like they did last time (and they are making it easier to not pay back the loans and possibly write them off their taxes) and the workforce gets nothing out of it. For the average Middle Class worker their lot doesn't change unless they get laid off. That means no one is spending (or saving) and everyone gets squeezed tighter.

But hey I am sure Shake Shack and Ruth Chris are happy.

edit: McConnell rejected it. STOP NEGOTIATING DEMOCRATS!

SHortest bill in history:
1. Every MWC gets a check for $600/wk until 4/30

The end. That's it.

That would be like $4 trillion dollars...I am in!

Of course if people had that money they probably order out more, buy more retail and even if a business is forced to shut down for a few months the owner could still pay bills and re-open when this is all over.

Oh and while they are at it...cancel student debt. Time to get the middle class back on track!

I said similar way back in March. Just pay every taxpayer $2000/month until this is over.

Once its over, claw that money back with higher taxes on rich people, who didn't need that $2000/month.

Big corps, the airlines, etc. need money? Get a loan. Or sell some of that stock you've spent the last 20 years buying back so the CEO makes more money.

Don’t tell me our economy is driven by consumers...

Jerome Powell stated back in October that time was running short on getting a stimulus bill passed and benefits to the people before a recession would begin. There is little concern about the stimulus being too large, but very real concern about it being too small.

By virtue of the size of this bill, it's clear that the GOP wants to sink Pres.-Elect Biden's initiatives through a damaged economy before he even has a chance to get them rolling. They don't want to debate him on merit if the economy is still scraping by through the pandemic. They need the economy to tank so that they can scoff at his initiatives of leading our economy to something that could actually allow humans to survive the next 200 years.

All of this.
